Hi. Can you tell me what "This was in no small thanks to the aforementioned.." in your edit is supposed to mean? I don't understand it. --Rodhullandemu (Talk) 12:18, 21 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

File source problem with File:Image-Example.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Image-Example.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, their copyright should also be acknowledged.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 08:36, 19 December 2009 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Skier Dude (talk) 08:36, 19 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Your song edits[edit]

Hello! Good job on all the hard work you're putting into expanding the articles on various M People songs. There are a few small problems though. Sometimes the text you add contains too many positive adjectives that while perfect for reviews or blog posts are not appropriate for Wikipedia. You also haven't supplied any sources to back up the claims you made with respect to how the songs were recorded, the videos made, and so on. I tagged a couple of the articles you worked on but if someone else comes along and sees those articles they might end up deleting a lot of your content since it's not properly referenced. There are also some technical matters. Song titles are enclosed in double quotation marks like this: "Awesome Song" as opposed to the self-link like you did [[Awesome Song]] which results in Awesome Song. (Note, the first mention of the article's subject should be bolded with the triple quotes but each successive mention would be with double quotes.) Also it's easier for browsers to parse the straight double quotes found on most keyboards instead of employing the slanted versions which distinguish between opening quotes and closing quotes — I'm guessing you edited a lot of the text using an outside program like a word processor.

Anyway, you've done a lot of good work and I hope you keep it up keeping in mind some of the issues I listed here. If you have any questions or comments you can reach me at my talk page. Thanks. SQGibbon (talk) 20:00, 14 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

File copyright problem with File:LRen2.jpg[edit]

Thank you for uploading File:LRen2.jpg. However, it currently is missing information on its copyright and licensing status. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously. It may be deleted soon, unless we can determine the license and the source of the file. If you know this information, then you can add a copyright tag to the image description page. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their license and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log.

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thanks again for your cooperation. Eeekster (talk) 08:59, 16 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Itchycoo Park (MPeople version)[edit]

Hello, the reason I am opposed to the M People cover having its own infobox is because then we'd need to make infoboxes for all the cover versions listed on the page which, at my count, would be five more. That many infoboxes would overwhelm the page and turn it into an ugly mess. SQGibbon (talk) 19:42, 17 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

M People singles[edit]

I appreciate "How Can I Love You More?" had two releases however the second is a re-release with new mixes so according to Wikipedia guidelines both singles should be mentioned in the same article. This is due to the fact Wikipedia articles should be about a song not a single, which in many cases is the same thing but in this its not. The article should therefore be about the song, "How Can I Love You More?", which was first released as a single in 1991 and re-released in 1993. The same applies to "Colour My Life" which was also released twice. The content you were planning to write for the original release of "How Can I Love You More?" should now be incorporated into the already existing article.

Anyway, thank you for your hard work in creating these articles. They have been needing creating for a long time, especially since all of the singles are top 40 hits! — Dell9300 (talk) 20:23, 20 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for uploading File:SFSE.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. re:Itchycoo Park (MPeople version)[edit]

As far as I know and as far as I understand your question, yes you can create a new page for the M People version of the song. Obviously it has to meet Wikipedia standards for notability and such, but assuming that it does then it should not be a problem. Looking through the archives of the rock'n'roll project I see that there is a lot of disagreement about whether cover versions should ever have their own articles. I think in some cases it is reasonable but don't be surprised if some people come along and disagree with this. SQGibbon (talk) 19:12, 28 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Replaceable fair use File:BAND.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:BAND.jpg. I noticed the description page specifies that the media is being used under a claim of fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first non-free content criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed media could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information or which could be adequately covered with text alone. If you believe this media is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the media description page and edit it to add {{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per our non-free content policy. Orphaned non-free image File:IPark.jpg[edit]

⚠

Thanks for uploading File:IPark.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of "file" pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described in the criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Courcelles 05:59, 1 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Mpeople[edit]

Hello Ebuaki,

I really don't remember anything about the discussions we had and I know nothing about this band or anything related to their music. When I edit Wikipedia it's entirely about reverting vandalism or cleaning up stuff that isn't inline with Wikipedia policies and/or guidelines.

So there are some confusing things about your message to me:

"I refer you to the page i created on Wiki several years ago on MPeople's single (Itchycoo Park), sometime ago you removed the page for this song as it is a cover version of a Small Faces song and features only on their page and you thought that by featuring the MPeople version underneath the main Small Face Single of Itchycoo park would be 'messy' as there are four other covers."

Looking through my messages to you on your talk page, I see that I never said anything against creating a separate page for MPeople's version as long it met Wikipedia's standards for notability and had the required reliable sources. My comment was entirely about not cluttering up the page with a lot of infoboxes. There are now many more covers listed so providing infoboxes for each seems even more like a bad idea.

As for the other examples you listed, I neither allowed nor disallowed anything related to them at all. At least in the case of 'Don't Look Any Further' I think the amount of space given to MPeople's version is horrible. It's way too long -- longer than the what is said about the original version! -- has too few sources and too much original research. The amount of space used in the Kang Gang version is far more reasonable.

The page for 'Someday' is also problematic and needs to either be removed or overhauled as well as it has no sources supplied whatsoever.

So no, I am not being inconsistent, I am just not aware of everything that's on Wikipedia. But now that I am aware of how unencylopedic and how much these other songs violated Wikipedia policies and guidelines I might look into fixing them if I have the time and energy.
