British Rail Class 142

You said the manufacturer stated that there are 106 or 121 seats on a 142. Yet Northern Spirit, Merseytravel and Arriva Trains Wales have all refurbished units so they are many different seating patterns. If you have any up-to-date references saying there are only 106 or 121 seat combinations, then please add them to the article. The Artists' Studio

I'm not entirely sure I understand the reason behind your tagging well enough to be able to fix it. The AfD for this article initially forced an overabundance of sources from a variety of places which is why there are so many print sources available, though considering theatres strive for reviews, post auditions, and experience controversy, I find it difficult to understand exactly what this tag is going for. Perhaps you could enlighten me as more details in your reasoning, and advice as to what needs to be done. Of course, any help would be appreciated as well! Hi, DrFrench, could I remind you of the three-revert rule, which in a nutshell is that "Edit warring is harmful. Editors who revert a page in whole or in part more than three times in 24 hours, except in certain special circumstances, are likely to be blocked from editing". Whilst I agree that the timetable information isn't appropriate, it doesn't come under any of the exemptions from 3RR. If 81.109.234.187 puts the information back in after you have removed it, you should discuss this on the talk page. If you ignore the 3RR you could be blocked despite your edits being well intentioned. Adambro 13:38, 4 March 2007 (UTC)

What it doesn't say is that you need to obtain a consensus of immediately-involved parties every time you want to make a small change, when there are perfectly good policies and consensus behaviour already. Drop in to WP:IFD some time and see various cosmetic imagery get deleted on a regular basis. I even brought this up at the Pump, and the response seems to be in no doubt about it. Can you please refrain from constantly undoing other people's edits without first discussing them on the talk page? I see you have already been temporarily banned in the past for such actions.

Well you may have noticed that I have backed down and created a new Top Gear Dog page, the aim being for this to make "featured article" status at some point. The presenter part of the main Top Gear page that has become so argued about has been removed.

Tyne and Wear metro nameboards

Please stop edit-warring over the issue of nameboards for the Tyne and Wear Metro station articles (e.g. Haymarket Metro station). Some kind of compromise needs to be reached, and persistent tit-for-tat reversions will not achieve this. I have left this message for all the editors involved.

As a compromise, I suggest having the nameboards somewhere else in the article but not as the station name in the infobox. Personally, I think this is the fairest solution. Please give it consideration. --RFBailey 19:44, 29 March 2007 (UTC)

Duplicates

Station nameboards

Closed off as requested; however, the Mock London Underground station plates have not been added back to any articles, which makes them orphans and ripe for deletion. Northern City Line

You can revert whatsoever you wish, as long as you have the interests of the article at heart. I was puzzled by your decision to remove the London Underground at Highbury & Islington though. I would have thought this merited inclusion. Ho hum ... I do not know what the rules are for what to inlcude/exclude on the maps ... perhaps you can point me to your source of information on this. I certainly do have the interest if this (and other articles) at heart. I guess there are no 'rules', but I try to keep things simple but informative. I have created a number of maps for a variety of articles, but each one is different. It can be difficult to decide what to include or exclude, but I guess it's best to think 'does including it add anything to the diagram' or 'will excluding it detract from the diagram'. Adding in lines that don't connect with the route being mapped isn't generally going to add anything and often make it harder to understand. Each station is linked, so the reader can click the Highbury wikilink for more information. If you add the Victoria line and Thameslink, then someone will add the Northern line, and the North London line and the Circle line... and in the end you won't be able to see the Northern City line! In Wikipedia it's normal to try and work things out through WP:CONSENSUS rather than having rigid rules - see WP:FIVE. I'm sorry if you find my attitude 'offhand' but if you go round saying 'whatever' to people in the real world, I'm sure you'll find people will react negatively. If you ask people nicely instead, you'll get a much better reaction. If my attitude is not to your liking - well tough. I was polite to you, I tried to be helpful and you were just rude in return. If you'd like to apologise and strike out your comment above, then we can start over. Thanks for noticing me about this article's speedy deletion nomination, maybe I should inform you though that all I did was creating a redirect on this article as I'm part of the Fashion WikiProject and we were simply enforcing the naming convention of disambiguated clothes brands' articles. I modified a good number of them and didn't really check the articles actually, not seeing this particular one was nothing more than advertising. Fair doos, but do bear in mind my 'throwing the toys out of a pram comment' was made after he posted his 'quit' notice - and was my comment on the quit notice, not a cause of it. I am at a loss to understand why he has acted as he did. For example, I posted an explanation on his talk page (see here) as to why I reverted one of his changes. I did that as I was trying to be friendly and willing to discuss the matter, as I did on my talk page here. Instead I received rather aggressive and sarcastic responses. Yes, my comment is perhaps regrettable (being said in the heat of the moment) - but was a result of (and not the cause of) his decision to quit. As far as I can see, no-one has been nasty to him - only constructive and helpful suggestions were made. (I've struck out the comment above, which I understand is the correct etiquette? As in not trying to hide the fact I said it by deleting it, but withdrawing the comment). DrFrench 22:05, 25 April 2007 (UTC)

Question

Hi there - just a quick question re: User:Davesmith33. For some reason he is on my watch list, and since he's been unblocked I can't say enough about how terrible I find his behaviour. I was curious at to whether there is any other action that could be taken against him (I am relatively new here) - i.e. permanent block or longer bans?

On a similar note, see any similarity between this and this? Dates don't overlap and the pages that the edits are made to are all top gear related (and even non-TG ones like this one have a definite TG slant on them). Just a thought.

Just for reference, there are things that can be done when people are acting like that; WP:AN if you need to bring something to an Admin's attention, WP:RFC if you want to get some 'community opinion' (and there are other dispute reolution options highlighted on that page). By the way, you might want to consider registering and getting your own username. You seem to be interested in building a better Wikipedia, registering makes it easier for other people to recognise you and you build your 'authority'. Happy editing! Turnpike Lane

Hi there. My reasoning for adding the link to the borough page is: that education is considered a part of describing settlements (How to), and that education in London is organised by the boroughs, so it makes sense to list them under the boroughs. There has been a rash of editors recreating lists against each settlement, and adding this link is to forestall such duplication.

Your mileage may differ, and that's fine too. Perhaps you could expand on your reasoning - in which case, I might even change my mind. Cheers. Kbthompson 14:15, 18 May 2007 (UTC)

My reason for removing it is that it seemed overkill to do that for one topic. The infobox lists the borough and links to the borough's article - and the borough is the LEA. (In other parts of the country the County Council is the LEA, but either way each infobox will already show a clear link to the LEA). If you start adding that text for education, then you'll end up withother people doing similar links for health services, police. The article will simply be full of clutter that infoboxes were designed to help remove. (It's also relevant that TL is a street rather than a settlement...) DrFrench 14:37, 18 May 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for that, I appreciate the reasoning. I've only done it for some boroughs, normally where I see editors adding single schools - or entire groups. For some reason, Haringey was next on the radar. There certainly should be an education list in the borough page, I hope you'll agree. The main problem seems to occur when (say) Hackney Central (name changed to actually prevent the occurrence) is confused with the boro' and somebody knocks in a list that lacks geographic focus. In London, the LEA is not necessarily the borough, but it will certainly follow boro' boundaries.

I shall now think about the matter further. Funny, I always regard Turnpike Lane as a district, not just a tube station, or a street ... All the best Kbthompson 14:49, 18 May 2007 (UTC)

Michael McDowell

Hi I notice you edited out my contribution to the infobox on the MMcD page. I contend that Mr. Mc Dowell ceased to be a TD along with 165 of the 166 members of Dail Eireann when the Dail was disolved on 29th April. Only one TD continued in office between this time and the election on 24th May, the Ceann Comhairle or Speaker who is elected automatically. The 15 members of the government (cabinet) continue in office until the election of their successors most likely on the first day of the new Dail 14th June. Therefore it is my contention that Mr. McDowell ceased to be a TD on 29th April and continues to be a Minister until some date in teh future most probably 14th June. I know this may sound petty but it is technically the way the system of government is continued in Ireland during an election. I hope you understand my position. Rigger30 14:33, 26 May 2007 (UTC)

Hi thanks for your comment. I appreciate your general agreement with my point. I was viewing it from the point of informing those who might consult wikipedia as an educatinal tool. However I also accept that it is necessary to have consistency on such issues. It is debatable which should win out consistency or technical correctness. I myself would tend to err towards correctness where possible however I accept that this could be difficult to achieve accross a large number of articles. Rigger30 17:13, 30 May 2007 (UTC)

I guess I am looking for advice on what to do with the page Sale of Goods Act. Basically the page name is ambigious, and currently refers only to the UK (or is it GB) sale of good act. An act of exactly the same name is also used in NZ.

Sorry, I assumed the T+W stations were subsurface, I stand corrected. But are the trains actually the same loading gauge as NR trains? I thought they were narrower.

Irish postcode CIO

I noticed your reverts on Republic of Ireland postal addresses and your note on Garydubh's talk page. Indeed we had a run in with him some months ago where he was previously pushing his "postcode" system on the Republic of Ireland postal addresses page trying to justify, firstly his system as being a post code system, even though An Post have not decided on any such nationwide system and the Irish government deferred plans for any offical postcode system, and secondly that his system is a true post code system when it is in fact a gps based building locator that may or may not be used by any non-postal authority as a delivery assistant. His coi is admitted but he insists on calling his system a post code system. Besides, the new url www.irishpostcodes.ie he now gives , is a beta, so is still not a commercial product. Have a look at the Republic of Ireland postal addresses history as well as the deleted postd from his own talk page especially this, this and the history of this anon IP user which Gary admits was his work too. Initially I was simply going to revert what looked like WP:LINKSPAM, but when I glanced at his contribution log it looked like a clear case of WP:COI to me - with some aggressive POV-pushing. I added the COI warning to ensure that there's no doubt he's been given fair warning. I'm also concerned by some of his posts on Talk:Republic of Ireland postal addresses, specifically this and this which are not discussion points, merely linkspam. London King's Cross railway station CTRL naming

FWIW, I totally agree about the naming of the CTRL (legally and formally, it still it). There was a long-term wrangling on CTRL and the wording eventually worked out was "High Speed 1 (HS1), known as the Channel Tunnel Rail Link (CTRL) during construction". I changed the footnote on the KX article to match, to avoid anyone else altering it further and in a less controlled way. My point has always been to do it the proper way, use links and so forth for Taylor. Not just me saying it. But you don't seem interested in that, and that was all I was trying to do in the first place but I was shot down. Just because I am not an expert at using this site. I wanted to provide sources and make it proper with links and sources and whatever it needs. I agree! But I only changed it to get rid of the horrible numbers that were in the infobox 5 x 10⁶ etc.

To complete the picture (no pun intended), the image of the Super Voyager was a copy vio and was deleted! I just though the new livery needed to be represented on the page. Will look out for another image.

Hi, I don't believe that you are correct that we have to cite conflicting sources when two are clearly more reliable otherwise we would have conflicting facts listed all over the place which is not the case- the bfi entry has been checked against the GRO index and the GRO are the people who issue certificates so I really think there is no longer any doubt on this issue. I note what you say, but the link you give doesn't say that the dates should NOT be de-linked, but that they don't HAVE to be. The Keegan article has dates in at least three different formats, so for non-registered users the article is rather muddled. (Turn off your date preferences and you'll see what I mean.) I can't see any reason for keeping the date links, nor why you feel the need to revert my edits on some point of principal. What does your reversion do to improve the content of Wikipedia? It is obvious you are opinionated here.

I'm not here to edit war, thus why I have left out the perfectly good uncited information on the transport part, which is similar in the way the paris article was on the link WPnot you gave on the history page of the South Shields article, though be it the Paris article is cited.

I have no problem with anyone taking down uncited stuff, knowing that this encourages cited editing.

But with regards to the Rugby bit, it is cited. And you have no right to dictate to anyone what is put in.

It is also to small for an article and no doubt someone with a POV like yours would put it up for deletion. So as it is it stays in the South Shields article as a description were it belongs since it is from S/Shields.

I honestly do not believe for one second you want every wiki article topic to be one sentence without reference.

Would you read a knowledge base that bland as one sentence?

That's what I thought when I first reverted it here. I was then pressurised into re-adding it by Tris2000 which I then did, against my better judgement, after a re-write. TV infoboxes

Hi you just beat me to the infobox. I was just doing it in my sandbox. one point about the picture format. Surely this should be Filmed 16:9 widescreen for this is what people would need to know. When shown in other countries it will use whatever system the broadcaster uses ie: secam, ntsc.
