WXLO in the Boston and Manchester templates

WXLO has been put on and taken off of the Boston market template due to disagreement on whether it is part of the market? First off, it is a Boston market station according to the 2014 Nielsen map. Second off, what about Manchester? It includes WXLO and (I think) three other out-of-market stations that have been kept there for ages. Help? TomG2002 (talk) 19:55, 19 January 2017 (UTC)

Yes, I see that in the Boston template history. There are some stations that are not geographically within the market or area, but have a "serviceable signal" in the market, and can actually serve the market. WXLO is, geographically, in Worcester County. However, the way Nielsen divides up the county, part of it is in the Worcester market and part is in the Boston market. WXLO falls on the Boston side of the Nielsen line, even though, geographically, it's closer to Worcester. The WXLO article has the templates for both Boston and Worcester, so I'd just leave that one for now (but I wouldn't rule out re-visiting it later). The Connecticut stations have similar issues. Bridgeport, Stamford-Norwalk, and New Haven have a lot of crossover, so where do the stations go? My feeling is that they should be in the template of where the station is on the Nielsen map, but there are other editors that may not agree with that and may put them in several templates. Doing that, however, runs the risk of the editor relying on original research (WP:OR), i.e. "I listened to this station and they advertise this store in Market A so they should be Market A even though clearly the station is in Market B." --DrChuck68 (talk) 01:11, 20 January 2017 (UTC)

Please do not churn the whitespace

This is purely my personal opinion, not official WP policy or guideline or even an essay—but speaking strictly from my personal opinion, I would like to ask you to refrain from edits that do not affect the rendered text, such as this edit that you made to WINS (AM).

Whether or not there is a space before, or following, the parameter separator (|) in a template does not change how things look in the rendered page. Some editors prefer to include the space(s) as it makes the edit window look a little less dense. Others prefer to exclude the space(s), so as to see a little more text on a line. The same is true of the asterisks or sharp signs that denote items in a list.

(Note that if a particular style of using whitespace or newlines or etc. in the wikitext is considered an "optional style", then changing them purely for personal preference is contrary to an Arbcom ruling.)

I'm not reverting these changes and I certainly am not going to bring any "cases" anywhere. The reason I'm leaving you this note is to ask you to consider: While such edits do not affect the text seen by the reader, they do increase editor workload. They complicate the editing history of the article and make diffs between versions more time-consuming to go through.

All because of edits that do not improve the article for the reader, not in the slightest detail.

Thank you for considering this suggestion. I realize you are acting in good faith to improve the encyclopedia as you see it. Just, please consider that you are making unnecessary work for those who follow you. Jeh (talk) 04:35, 26 January 2017 (UTC)

Thank you for your advice. I agree with it completely, and I will keep it in mind in my future edits. --DrChuck68 (talk) 14:47, 26 January 2017 (UTC)
