Question on draft you looked at!

Hello! I was hoping to discuss a draft you looked at recently that I'm working on. I believe strongly that Danial fits the notable criteria listed for chess players, specifically point 3 stating, "Has won a national or continental championship or women's championship." as he's won all 3 major scholastic national tournaments and the North American U-20 Championship.

The current reason for submission decline is around significant coverage. Below I've linked 4 concrete sources from 2 established newspapers that cover Danial. While I understand they come from newspapers in Santa Monica, I'd like to postulate that they fit within reliable, secondary sources, and are reasonable given there isn't a great deal of chess coverage in the major papers.

2. https://smdp.com/2020/06/29/local-beats-grandmaster-to-win-national-chess-tournament/

Looking forward to hearing your thoughts and if this would suffice for coverage. Thank you! BenJohnson7 (talk) 03:25, 22 August 2024 (UTC)

My Article Draft

I have submitted an article. And it should be accepted. If there is any mistake please correct it. Please accept my article M Shoriful Islam (talk) 11:13, 27 August 2024 (UTC)

The page Draft:M Shoriful Islam has already been deleted, as it appeared to be purely promotional, so it cannot be accepted at this point. Also you should note that autobiographies are very strongly discouraged, to the point where there's basically no chance of one getting accepted throught the Articles for Creation process. -- D'n'B-t -- 17:53, 27 August 2024 (UTC)

Submission Denied, Boston Common Magazine

Hi, Thank you for your feedback regarding the draft of the Boston Common magazine article. I appreciate your time and focus on making sure it fits Wikipedia's standards. Here, I'm outlining why I'm a little confused on why it was denied, why it should be published--and how I'm open to taking specific feedback on what I can do to make it published.

I'd also like to point out that Boston Common's sister publications, such as Aspen Peak, Gotham (magazine), and Philadelphia Style, already have Wikipedia pages that are supported by similar or, in some cases, even fewer resources. But this does not mean I see room for improvement for Boston Common or the sister publications, which I have edited in the past--I understand the importance of providing well-rounded and thorough references. While I have already included several references that I believe meet the necessary criteria, I am more than willing to add more if you can provide further guidance. Could you please clarify what specific types of sources or details would be most helpful to strengthen the article and get it published? While some of the sources used are from the publication itself, they are appropriate in this context as they provide direct evidence of specific editorial features covered by the magazine. I think the usage is justified when citing detailed descriptions of the magazine’s own content, ensuring accuracy and authenticity in reporting on its features.

Please also note that I am not affiliated with Boston Common magazine. My interest in creating this article comes from being a long-time reader since its launch in 2005 and have enjoyed learning more about the magazine over time. I do not get any benefit from this--I just find it as rather a passion project.

Thank you so much, and I look forward to any additional suggestions you may have before I resubmit the draft.

Govwikis (talk) 18:52, 30 August 2024 (UTC)

Hi @Govwikis,
At the time I reviewed this draft, none of the seven sources cited contributed anything towards notability, which is a core requirement that any subject must demonstrate in order to be included in Wikipedia. The general notability guideline WP:GNG requires multiple (3+) secondary sources that are reliable and independent (of the subject, and of each other), and that have provided significant coverage directly of the subject.
Whether there are other articles out there (aka. the WP:OTHERSTUFFEXISTS argument) with equally weak sources – and a quick glance at the three you refer to suggests this may well be the case – is unfortunate, of course, but ultimately doesn't matter. We don't assess drafts by comparison to existing articles, but rather by reference to the currently applicable policies and guidelines, which they must comply with. There are nearly 7m articles in the English-language Wikipedia, many of which have all sorts of problems, but that is no reason to create more. If you come across articles that don't meet our requirements, you are very welcome to improve them, or highlight the issues with maintenance tags so others can do so.

Why make it easier when DoubleGrazing can make it complicated

Hello, very briefly - I have made an article about The Westin Zagreb upon which after 2 weeks being on Wikipedia, you decided to remove it. The reason - some notability. In addition to that - The Westin Dhaka has the same issue but that page is not taken down, there’s just a message on top of the page. It’s not removed, but mine is. The Westin Zagreb (as someone who lives in Zagreb and knows this) is the most famous, biggest hotel and most recognized building in Zagreb, but unfortunately lack of information and documentation regarding the Westin brand hotel chain with Zagreb are so little to no information, therefore everything I could fine is great (I will still keep looking for any other information but I doubt that I will find something). You are removing my page for notability aka something I can’t find on the internet or books. So to conclude - you are making this so much more complicated then it should be. I get it this is Wikipedia’s rule but there just simply isn’t enough information to satisfy your “notablity” form. And what about Hyatt Regency Belgrade ?? They don’t have a single reference and somehow the page is still visible and not removed. Not ok and not fair. Someone who want to contribue to Wiki as a new publisher and then their work to be removed it’s just not fair. That’s it. SatelliteChange (talk) 19:54, 31 August 2024 (UTC)

I don't know what you want me to say? On one hand you acknowledge that notability is "Wikipedia's rule", yet on the other you have a go at me personally as if I'm arbitrarily making your life difficult. But okay, if ranting at me makes your day brighter, then have at it! -- DoubleGrazing (talk) 10:17, 1 September 2024 (UTC)
(talk page stalker) WP:OTHERSTUFFEXISTS is a thing. StonyBrook babble 17:46, 1 September 2024 (UTC)

Thanks for your contributions to Florida school curriculum controversy. Unfortunately, I do not think it is ready for publishing at this time because it needs more sources to establish notability. I have converted your article to a draft which you can improve, undisturbed for a while.

Please see more information at Help:Unreviewed new page. When the article is ready for publication, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page OR move the page back. Bungle (talkcontribs) 09:00, 1 September 2024 (UTC)

I have moved this back to draft, as it does not seem like it's suitable in its current guise for mainspace. On sourcing alone, the third paragraph has no citation and the citation for the fourth paragraph is dated early 2022, around 18 months before the subject of the article's timeframe, yet it written in a manner that suggests it is analysing the subject matter.
Also may possibly fail WP:NOTNEWS and the author has been blocked for spam. Bungle (talkcontribs) 09:04, 1 September 2024 (UTC)
Hi @Bungle: it's not my article, I merely accepted it at AfC (and on purpose left it unpatrolled as it was borderline IMO). So you may wish to notify its author instead. Best, -- DoubleGrazing (talk) 09:06, 1 September 2024 (UTC)
I know, I notified you as the draft acceptor (hence in my final line, I noted "the author", as a third party, not you). I thought it was polite of me to let you know, as I essentially did not agree with the mainspace move. Bungle (talkcontribs) 09:54, 1 September 2024 (UTC)
@Bungle oh okay. I didn't realise you notified me as well as the author, but looking at their talk page (and quite a talk page it is!) I now see that you did. That being the case, thanks. :) DoubleGrazing (talk) 10:15, 1 September 2024 (UTC)

@"wikiog777": I meant to ask you earlier, what is your relationship with this subject; how did you choose it as your first one to write an article about? I will post a paid-editing-query on your talk page, please read and respond to it. Thanks, -- DoubleGrazing (talk) 15:46, 2 September 2024 (UTC)
@DoubleGrazing Its not paid editing, its just I some how get to know this foundation and wanted to write about it. "wikiog777" (talk) 15:52, 2 September 2024 (UTC)
@"wikiog777": that doesn't sound entirely plausible, if you forgive me for saying. You registered your account, made a few minor edits, and then dropped a fully-fledge draft on this organisation. You probably have a reason for all that - perhaps you work for them? Or, given that your user page says you're a freelance writer, perhaps they asked you to write about them? -- DoubleGrazing (talk) 15:58, 2 September 2024 (UTC)
I can understand the concern, I use to edit Wikipedia before with proxy. I have created this account to seriously understand Wikipedia editing and to learn it further because I know how to edit the minor edits I wanted to create a page. This foundation have no relations to me I volunteer to create this page only because I got motivated by this organization if that makes sense.
But honestly I have no intentions of harming Wikipedia and breaching its policies. If it seems like that I am very sorry.
And would like you to guide me how to fix this. "wikiog777" (talk) 16:10, 2 September 2024 (UTC)
I see. Thank you for explaining.
Just out of curiosity, when you say you used to edit "with proxy", what does that mean? -- DoubleGrazing (talk) 16:14, 2 September 2024 (UTC)
I wanted to edit Wikipedia and had a proxy so I used that because didn't knew how it works to edit on Wikipedia after knowing Wikipedia policies i created the account. "wikiog777" (talk) 16:19, 2 September 2024 (UTC)

Submission declined

Hello @DoubleGrazing I hope this message finds you well. I am writing to seek clarification regarding the recent decline of my Wikipedia submission, which can be found at the following link: User:Nicopolus/sandbox.

I have reviewed the feedback provided but would appreciate further details to better understand the specific reasons for the decline. Could you please elaborate on the areas that need improvement or any guidelines that I may have overlooked?

Thank you for your support. Nicopolus (talk) 03:17, 5 September 2024 (UTC)

@Nicopolus: the entire draft is unreferenced, apart from the 'Publications' section. Verifiability is a core requirement in Wikipedia, and applies to any article, but our referencing requirements are especially strict in articles on living people (WP:BLP). Every material statement, anything potentially contentious, and all private personal details must be clearly supported by inline citations to reliable published sources. -- DoubleGrazing (talk) 05:42, 5 September 2024 (UTC)

Sir I have already edited sir Tendythexangsw (talk) 07:28, 6 September 2024 (UTC)
@Tendythexangsw: please read the relevant notability guideline WP:ORG. You need to show that this subject is notable, by citing multiple secondary sources which are reliable and independent (of the subject, and of each other) and which provide significant coverage of the subject. Your draft cites no sources at all (other than the college's own website), and therefore fails our two core requirements of notability and verifiability. This being the case, I have no option but to decline your draft again. -- DoubleGrazing (talk) 07:35, 6 September 2024 (UTC)

An Article

You said that my draft contained 'unreliable resources' and that unreliable resource is a pdf doc. of the history of Mizo, created by the Govt. of Mizoram. How can you say that an entire Government is not reliable? I have a great knowledge (talk) 09:49, 6 September 2024 (UTC)

 Courtesy link: Draft:Lusei
@I have a great knowledge: I didn't say "an entire Government is not reliable". My decline notice said that the draft is not adequately supported by reliable sources. You had cited three sources, two of which couldn't be verified because you didn't provide sufficient details of them. And half the draft content was unreferenced.
That was the situation when I reviewed it; now it is, if anything, even worse. -- DoubleGrazing (talk) 09:56, 6 September 2024 (UTC)

I would not worry about headings or images until you have adequate sourcing. Just focus on making sure every paragraph has a source that can be verified. If you can't figure out the wikicode then just put all the information in <ref> tags and someone will format it eventually. Verifiable, reliable sources are the main thing. -- D'n'B-t -- 15:31, 6 September 2024 (UTC)

Advice

Hello DoubleGrazing, please I want to seek for you advice, my account was blocked for copyright issue, then I created other accounts thinking that was the solution which caused sockpupet, what should I do? Although I've calmed down to learn the Wikipedia policy and the copyright. I request for unblock through WP:UTRS because I couldn't login due to my account has been blocked globally. Please what do you I should do. I will love to continue contributing on Wikipedia. Thank you for your time. 105.116.4.223 (talk) 16:40, 9 September 2024 (UTC)

I've no idea what you should do. (I've also no idea who you are, but I guess you have your reasons for keeping that under wraps?) Normally I would say go back to your original blocked account and appeal the block from there, but it seems you either can't or don't want to do that. Pinging Deepfriedokra, one of the UTRS admins. That's about all I can do. Oh, and stop editing even from an IP address, because that's block evasion. -- DoubleGrazing (talk) 16:55, 9 September 2024 (UTC)
okay, thanks for the advice. I will refrain from editing on Wikipedia six months, which is the standard offer. Thanks for the advice 105.116.4.223 (talk) 16:59, 9 September 2024 (UTC)
That's actually a good idea but it seems likely they have not adequately addressed the reasons for their block UTRS. -- Deepfriedokra (talk) 17:04, 9 September 2024 (UTC)
Deepfriedokra I was previously blocked for copyright issue, then I created other accounts thinking that was the solution without knowing the Wikipedia policy which lead to sockpupet. I tried to login to my account to request for unlock, but I couldn't, it says I have been globally locked, so I tried through UTRS but it was declined. So that is the problem, I don't know which other step to take. I've already refrain from editing for over one month and now. Any advice or instructions? 105.116.4.223 (talk) 17:30, 9 September 2024 (UTC)

Explaining finding aids

Hello, you recently declined my submission for Northwest LELO and I wanted to clarify some things that may help you with your article reviews in the future. I cited the archival finding aid to the Tyree Scott papers as a source. The finding aid contains an administrative history or biographical note written by the processing archivist, which typically meets the Wikipedia guidelines for reliability. This historical note is what the citation referenced, not the archival materials themselves. I know you said you don't want people to post messages about AfC submissions, but I wanted to let you know about this in case you come across it again in the future. Help with References

Hi DoubleGrazing,

My draft was denied publication for the references: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Draft:Eley_Hawk_Ltd

It looks like there aren't enough valid sources, or sources that are independent. The Wiki page is for a company, that is a split from ELEY brothers. When looking at the other company that split, I can't really see any valid/independent sources on their page either, but theirs is published? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eley_Limited

Perhaps you can guide me on the differences and what kind of sources I should be using.

Many thanks, TheGamehunt 194.73.207.234 (talk) 10:33, 10 September 2024 (UTC)

Hi TheGameHunt,
(Please remember to log in whenever editing.)
The Eley Limited article was created way back in 2006, when there was no review process for articles like we have today. Back then the main focus was on just getting articles created, and sorting out 'nice-to-haves' like referencing etc. later. There are any number of legacy articles like that among the nearly 7m in the English-language Wikipedia, but that's no reason to create more such problems. Nowadays, every new article must comply with currently-applicable policies and guidelines. The relevant policy that articles on companies must meet is WP:NCORP; please study it, and try to provide sources that satisfy it.
And yes, you're right, the sources in the Eley article don't demonstrate notability either; I have tagged it accordingly.
HTH, -- DoubleGrazing (talk) 10:49, 10 September 2024 (UTC)
Hi there,
So as there's little to no independent sources that aren't in the industry, it's pretty much impossible to get the wiki page live? Or do you have any suggestions.
Many thanks. 194.73.207.234 (talk) 15:14, 13 September 2024 (UTC)
If there aren't independent and reliable secondary sources to summarise, then by definition it won't be possible to base a Wikipedia article on them. I'm not aware of any way around this cardinal rule. -- DoubleGrazing (talk) 17:32, 13 September 2024 (UTC)

Question from Bluedeercomposer (15:00, 10 September 2024)

Hi! I need to create my Wikipedia page. I’m a composer/musician. Where do I begin? Literally. Thanks! --Bluedeercomposer (talk) 15:00, 10 September 2024 (UTC)

Hi @Bluedeercomposer,
The first thing I need to tell you is that writing about yourself is very strongly discouraged, see WP:AUTOBIO for some of the reasons why that is. And if you're not careful, you have a high risk of getting blocked for promoting yourself, as promotion of any kind is not allowed on Wikipedia. Even if you're not 'selling' anything, it can still be considered promotion, which is a much broader concept than most new users realise: see WP:YESPROMO.
If you still wish to proceed, you can find pretty much everything you need to create your first article at WP:YFA.
However, you should actually start by finding independent and reliable third party sources (especially secondary ones, ie. print and/or broadcast media) that have previously published coverage of you. This is important, because Wikipedia articles mainly summarise what such sources say. This is a core concept called 'notability' (see WP:N), which you need to demonstrate in order to have your article published.
I repeat my advice that you shouldn't do this, but if you do decide to go ahead, then good luck! -- DoubleGrazing (talk) 16:07, 10 September 2024 (UTC)

I reckon you're brave enough
