Thanks for your questions at my RfA

So many options as to how to answer your question. I could talk about my lack of coding skills, my narrow area of writing interest, my limited exposure to meta-process arenas, my irregular editing history, my active disinterest of some content areas, my limited patience sometimes. I chose an answer I could do something about. Thanks for helping others to see how I process. BusterD (talk) 16:40, 12 July 2021 (UTC)

Would you consider becoming a New Page Reviewer?

Chart of the New Pages Patrol backlog for the past 6 months. (Purge)

Hi Dolotta,

I've recently been looking for editors to invite to join the new page reviewing team. Reviewing/patrolling a page doesn't take much time but it requires a good understanding of Wikipedia policies and guidelines; the new page reviewing team needs help from experienced users.

Would you please consider becoming a New Page Reviewer? Kindly read the tutorial before making your decision (if it looks daunting, don't worry, most pages are easy to review, and habits are quick to develop). If this looks like something that you can do, please consider joining us. If you choose to apply, you can drop an application over at WP:PERM/NPR. If you have questions, please feel free to drop a message on my talk page or at the reviewer's discussion board.

Cheers, and hope to see you around, (t · c) buidhe 17:37, 10 June 2022 (UTC)

Question from Anupkav on Evan Neal (13:20, 14 July 2022)

Hi. New to Wikipedia. I wanted to change the photo of an NFL player to a more recent one with his current team jersey. I don't see how to do that, though. I appreciate any help.

The photo is one I grabbed from the internet, not my own photo. --Anupkav (talk) 13:20, 14 July 2022 (UTC)

  • Greetings, Anupkav, and welcome to Wikipedia! New users who have made less than 10 edits and have created their account less than 4 days ago (called autoconfirmed on Wikipedia) are unable to upload pictures. That restriction is put into place to reduce copyright concerns. Pictures on Wikipedia have to have many of the copyright protections released by the creator. That being said, feel free to send me a link here or via the "Email this user" link on the left hand side of this page and I will see if it can be uploaded to Wikipedia. Once again, welcome! -- Dolotta (talk) 14:25, 14 July 2022 (UTC)
Thanks for the quick response! I appreciate it!! I will send you a link. Anupkav (talk) 14:53, 14 July 2022 (UTC)
  • Thanks for the e-mail. Nice picture! Regretfully, being on the NFL.com web site, it is copyrighted by the NFL or a related entity and I can't imagine that they would be willing to allow Wikipedia to use the picture for free. Most pictures that I come across here on Wikipedia are taken at public events (conferences, book signings, etc.). In fact, these rules prevented Wikipedia from having a picture of the leader of North Korea for many years even if probably hundreds of millions of people have already seen pictures of him in the media. -- Dolotta (talk) 15:08, 14 July 2022 (UTC)
    Ah, I see. So basically, I have to find a Getty image or take a pick myself? Anupkav (talk) 18:14, 14 July 2022 (UTC)
    Ah, Getty images are free either. Ugh. Anupkav (talk) 18:27, 14 July 2022 (UTC)
  • Essentially that is the case. Wikipedia requires pictures to be licensed under Creative Commons which is linked at the bottom of pages. Since this license allows for free commercial distribution, it is relatively tough to get pictures. -- Dolotta (talk) 19:49, 14 July 2022 (UTC)
@Anupkav: Thanks again! -- Dolotta (talk) 15:11, 14 July 2022 (UTC)
