Hello Dm20476. The nature of your edits, such as the one you made to Draft:Infinigate Group, gives the impression you have an undisclosed financial stake in promoting a topic, but you have not complied with Wikipedia's mandatory paid editing disclosure requirements. Paid advocacy is a category of conflict of interest (COI) editing that involves being compensated by a person, group, company or organization to use Wikipedia to promote their interests. Undisclosed paid advocacy is prohibited by our policies on neutral point of view and what Wikipedia is not, and is an especially serious type of COI; the Wikimedia Foundation regards it as a "black hat" practice akin to black-hat search-engine optimization.

Paid advocates are strongly discouraged from direct article editing, and should instead propose changes on the talk page of the article in question if an article exists. If the article does not exist, paid advocates are strongly discouraged from attempting to write an article at all. At best, any proposed article creation should be submitted through the articles for creation process, rather than directly.

Regardless, if you are receiving or expect to receive compensation for your edits, broadly construed, you are required by the Wikimedia Terms of Use to disclose your employer, client and affiliation. You can post such a mandatory disclosure to your user page at User:Dm20476. The template {{Paid}} can be used for this purpose – e.g. in the form: {{paid|user=Dm20476|employer=InsertName|client=InsertName}}. If I am mistaken – you are not being directly or indirectly compensated for your edits – please state that in response to this message. Otherwise, please provide the required disclosure. In either case, do not edit further until you answer this message. DoubleGrazing (talk) 12:16, 7 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi DoubleGrazing,
I'm not compensated for this edits. I was part of Infinigate in the past and I felt that a short history of Infinigate in Wikipedia is worthwhile for the world community.
I understand your concerns that Wikipedia should be not used as a marketing platform. However, the text of Infinigate doesn’t seem to me an extensive marketing text. At least not more than for example the text about Microsoft https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Microsoft
Can you please let me know which part of the text you feel is not appropriate?
Thanks a lot. Dm20476 (talk) 12:38, 7 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, thanks. Even if you're not currently employed, or otherwise compensated, by this business, you still should declare a general conflict of interest (COI) as an ex-employee (or whatever being "part of Infinigate" means, exactly). I will post a separate message below with info and advice on COI.
Articles on businesses should be composed by summarising what independent and reliable secondary sources have said about them. This draft cites no such source, which means this is essentially the business, directly or indirectly, telling the world about itself, which is pretty much the definition of promotion; see WP:YESPROMO.
Not only that, but the draft content and tone is quite promotional throughout, esp. the 'Story' section (which makes up the bulk of the draft). Expressions like "The two founders recognized the potential of the Internet. Their goal was to help companies take full advantage of the possibilities of the digital age." and "had a vision of how they could meet the growing need for Internet solutions in the emerging digital era. Their shared passion for innovation and technology drove them to create Internet2000" is just pure marketing blurb which has no place in an encyclopaedia. Hi DoubleGrazing,
Thanks for the hint. I made some changes on the text based on your suggestions. Can you please check if the text fits better.
Thanks a lot. Dm20476 (talk) 13:24, 7 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Managing a conflict of interest[edit]

Information icon Hello, Dm20476. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about on Wikipedia, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a conflict of interest may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for article subjects for more information. We ask that you:

In addition, you are required by the Wikimedia Foundation's terms of use to disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation. See Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure.

Hi ‪Shewasafairy,
Thanks for your feedback. I did read WP:ROUTINE as well as RP:RELIABLE but it didn't really help in understanding what should be changed in the text about Infinigate. It is the story of an European startup company with meanwhile international footprint and today close to 2000 employees and way above 20'000 partner companies. It is not breaking news but I feel it has a certain relevance.
In addition I feel the coverage from the press is pretty good (see references). It is even larger if I would link the German speaking press.
By the way, when I read for example the Wikipedia entry of Microsoft it doesn't seem to me much different the way the text of Infinigate is written.
However, I made some additional changes to reduce the "routine".
It would be great if you could give me some concrete hints in what you expect to be changed in the text.
Thanks a lot. Dm20476 (talk) 12:35, 9 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Dear Johannes,
I understand that from your point of view the article doesn't fit the Wikipedia rules. But I didn't see any message from your side which part is not o.k. However, I let chatGPT rewrite the text by asking to make it Wikipedia compatible :-) I hope this helps. Dm20476 (talk) 11:14, 11 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

AfC notification: Draft:Infinigate Group has a new comment[edit]

I've left a comment on your Articles for Creation submission, which can be viewed at Draft:Infinigate Group. Thanks! Johannes (Talk) (Contribs) (Articles) 07:37, 12 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Dear Johannes,
First of all, I don't get paid in any way for this text. I was earlier part of Infinigate and thought that at least the basic history of Infinigate should be mentioned in Wikipedia. The written text doesn't seem to me a marketing text anymore, only facts.
However, if your view is the way of measurement, then a lot of other companies mentioned in Wikipedia such as Microsoft (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Microsoft) or Adobe (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Adobe_Inc.) should be deleted. Their texts look pretty similar to the text of Infinigate. However, I don't think any of those text should be deleted. But neither should Infinigate.
What can I do to convince you? Dm20476 (talk) 09:55, 12 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Regardless of whether you're being paid or not (and I'm happy to accept your assurances that you're not), you still have a conflict of interest when writing about your ex-employer. As advised earlier, please disclose your COI.
While the draft is supported only or mainly by primary sources, including ones close to the subject, it is by definition promotional, because it is essentially the organisation 'spreading awareness' of itself; see WP:YESPROMO. Promotional editing is a much broader concept than marketing, let alone advertising.
And finally, other articles that may exist out there have no bearing on whether this draft can be accepted or not; see WP:OTHERSTUFFEXISTS. If you have identified issues with existing articles, you're welcome to improve them, or where this isn't possible, initiate deletion proceedings. The existence of other problematic articles is no reason to create more of the same. HTH, -- DoubleGrazing (talk) 10:11, 12 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
ok got it.
