Welcome!

Hello, Derbent 5000, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions. I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are a few good links for newcomers:

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Please sign your name on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically produce your name and the date. If you need help, check out Wikipedia:Questions, ask me on my talk page, or place {{helpme}} on your talk page and someone will show up shortly to answer your questions. Again, welcome!  I would like to thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. However, it is recommended that you use the preview button before you save; this helps you find any errors you have made, and prevents clogging up recent changes and the page history. Thanks again. Again, please use the preview button before you save, especially when making complicated edits. Thanks. The Ungovernable Force 09:30, 18 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hello! Just wanted to let you know that there is a preview button ("Show Preview") available to help you out while making any changes to articles. I notice you made the extremely minor addition of an info box to the China 9, Liberty 37 article, which for some reason took you over 70 edits (!) and two days to complete. This could have easily been accomplished in only one edit. I see that you've made similarly small changes with multiple edits in other articles, too. The preview button lets you make as many changes as you want before finalizing your edit. This will greatly assist future editors when they utilize the article's history page. Also, please use the edit summary so other editors will know who is responsible for what additions/deletions to the article without having to search each and every separate edit. Thanks.Hal Raglan 14:07, 20 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Andrei Rublev film[edit]

Hello. I wish to tell you that copying full reviews from Amazon.com is not a good idea, since that is what we call "copyright infringement." Copyright violations are not allowed on Wikipedia. Your are welcome, though, to put a link to the Amazon review at the bottom of the article. Thanks for editing at Wikipedia. User:Zscout370 (Return Fire) 08:43, 21 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Plagiarizing[edit]

Hello again! Please be aware that you cannot simply copy/plagiarize information from another source and place it unchanged into a wikipedia article. Your Welcome To L.A. article consisted solely of copyrighted info from IMDB, as did your The Leopard film article. As this is copyright infringement, pure and simple, I removed these details from those articles. Also, you are not following some of wikipedia's rules for naming articles -- The Leopard (film) would have been the correct article name. Please do not continue editing in wikipedia if your sole intent is to simply copy and paste from other sources. You should take a break from your feverish editing and read thru all of wikipedia's various policies and rules, as had been helpfully provided to you by The Ungovernable Force on the top of this page. Thanks. Hal Raglan 22:43, 21 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I have recommended "your" article Images 1972 be deleted as the entire article simply consists of a cut and paste of Richard T. Jameson's review of the film on Amazon.com. Hal Raglan 03:28, 22 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Ditto "your" articles The Leopard 1963 and Fingers 1978. I have also edited/deleted details from many of your articles that you had simply cut and paste from IMDB and Amazon.com.Hal Raglan 03:52, 22 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Fingers 1978[edit]

Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia! We appreciate your contributions to the Fingers 1978 article, but we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material. Perhaps you would like to rewrite the article in your own words. For more information, take a look at Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Happy editing! --[1]xaosflux Talk 03:59, 22 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Speedy Delete Tag[edit]

Please note that a Speedy Delete vote was determined for your Images 1972 article, and a tag noting this decision was placed on the top of the article. Please be aware that this tag details the following: "If you disagree with its speedy deletion, please explain why on its talk page or at Wikipedia:Speedy deletions. If this page obviously does not meet the criteria for speedy deletion, or you intend to fix it, please remove this notice, but do not remove this notice from pages that you have created yourself." You were the author of the original article, and you removed the tag. This is in violation of wikipedia policy. The article as it is now STILL consists of text simply copied from another source. If you want to completely rewrite the article IN YOUR OWN words, do so. But the article AS IS should be deleted.

Please take the time to read wikipedia's various policies and regulations, not simply on this subject but on other basic editing rules. I really do suggest you take a breather from your hundreds upon hundreds of extremely minor edits you have made in the last four day period so you can familiarize yourself with how wikipedia is supposed to work. Thanks! Hal Raglan 04:13, 22 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Deletion of articles and blocking[edit]

Hello Derbent, unfortunately, I have had to delete most of your contributions because they were copyright violations. As you have been warned countless times, this is not allowed on Wikipedia, for legal reasons. Since you continue to remove AFD and deletion tags and seem to ignore attempts to communicate, I have no choice but to block you for 24 hours. After the block expires, please come back and improve Wikipedia by contributing original work (work which is license-compatible with the GFDL is okay as well). Quarl (talk) 2006-03-22 07:43Z

Warning sign
This media may be deleted.

Thanks for uploading Image:L 'Important C'est D'aimer.jpg. I notice the 'image' page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you have not created this media yourself then there needs to be an argument why we have the right to use the media on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the media yourself then it needs to be specified where it was found, i.e., in most cases link to the website where it was taken from, and the terms of use for content from that page.

If the media also doesn't have a copyright tag then one should be added. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media qualifies as fair use, consider reading fair use, and then use a tag such as {{Non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair_use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other media, consider checking that you have specified their source and copyright tagged them, too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any unsourced and untagged images will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. --Descendall 22:48, 22 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Image copyright problem with Image:Lionheart.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Lionheart.jpg. However, the image may soon be deleted unless we can determine the copyright holder and copyright status. The Wikimedia Foundation is very careful about the images included in Wikipedia because of copyright law (see Wikipedia's Copyright policy).

The copyright holder is usually the creator, the creator's employer, or the last person who was transferred ownership rights. Copyright information on images is signified using copyright templates. The three basic license types on Wikipedia are open content, public domain, and fair use. Find the appropriate template in Wikipedia:Image copyright tags and place it on the image page like this: {{TemplateName}}.

Please signify the copyright information on any other images you have uploaded or will upload. Remember that images without this important information can be deleted by an administrator. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me, or ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Angr (tc) 15:09, 11 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned fair use image (Image:Sea Of Love.jpg)[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Sea Of Love.jpg. I notice the 'image' page currently specifies that the image is unlicensed for use on Wikipedia and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful.

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. On film articles[edit]

Hi Derbent 5000, I see you are adding articles for some very good films lately. However, the plot summaries are direct copies from IMDb. We are not supposed to do this because of copyright laws. One simple way to avoid this is to rephrase them. Also one detail that helps the maintenece crew, please let all the lines of the infobox in, even if they are empty. You are always welcome to join WP Films, but even if you don't wish to, please take a look at the project's style guidelines. Thank you and feel free to ask me any questions you may have. Orphaned fair use image (Image:Save The Tiger.jpg)[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Save The Tiger.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable under fair use (see our fair use policy).

Fair use rationale for Image:8MM.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:8MM.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Unspecified source for Image:8MM.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:8MM.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, then you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, then their copyright should also be acknowledged.

As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self-no-disclaimers}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 04:06, 26 May 2007 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.Betacommand (talkcontribsBot) 04:06, 26 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Please Use Edit Summaries[edit]

Hi there. When editing an article on Wikipedia there is a small field labeled "Edit summary" under the main edit-box. It looks like this:

Edit summary text box

The text written here will appear on the Recent changes page, in the page revision history, on the diff page, and in the watchlists of users who are watching that article. See m:Help:Edit summary for full information on this feature.

Filling in the edit summary field greatly helps your fellow contributors in understanding what you changed, so please always fill in the edit summary field. If you are adding a section, please do not just keep the previous section's header in the Edit summary field - please fill in your new section's name instead. Thank you. Orphaned non-free media (Image:Death Race 2000.jpg)[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Death Race 2000.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 05:13, 28 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page.
