WP:Youngstown assessment.
SwissCelt, I have started assessing WP:Youngstown articles. You can view the project page at Wikipedia:WikiProject Youngstown/Article Classification. I have assessed about half of the Youngstown-related articles and will work on the rest in the coming days. If you come across a Youngstown-related article which hasn't been assessed, please feel free to do so. Artles needing assessment can be viewed at Category:Unassessed Youngstown articles. Thanks, Daysleeper47 00:56, 30 October 2007 (UTC)
- Perhaps I should have read your Rant of the Moment. My apologies for troubling you with my assessment. That said, Youngstown, Ohio is up for FA nom again and could use some assistance; see the comments left on the talk page. --Daysleeper47 02:58, 30 October 2007 (UTC)
- Don't worry about it. I'm actually honored that you would ask me, although for obvious reasons I'll have to respectfully decline to assess any articles. I certainly can help improve articles, though. -- SwissCelt 03:05, 30 October 2007 (UTC)
- SandyGeorgia left clear instructions on how the article can be brought up to FA standards. I removed dozens of unnecessary links, but don't have further time to devote to the project, at least for now. Good luck! twelsht 05:27, 30 October 2007 (UTC)
- Hi, Daysleeper, what a lovely userpage! I have a very full day today, but will work on it after the trick-or-treaters clear out tonight. SandyGeorgia (Talk) 13:31, 31 October 2007 (UTC)
- Daysleeper, I planned to leave a message earlier today. Please feel free to step in. I have a deadline to meet (school-related), but wanted to squeeze in as many edits as possible over the past few hours--especially since it's so close to meeting FA standards. Most of the web citations have publishers listed. But there may be some repeated refs, and the Avanti link has been tagged as unreliable. Thanks! twelsht 15:50, 1 November 2007 (UTC)
Enjoy your trip; it's looking good! SandyGeorgia (Talk) 02:56, 2 November 2007 (UTC)
- Daysleeper, I've been entertaining an out-of-town visitor since Thursday. Still, I tried to act on as many of SandyGeorgia's recommendations as possible. One way or another, SandyGeorgia's edits and recommendations have vastly improved the article. - twelsht 20:54, 4 November 2007 (UTC)
- Thanks for the kind words on the Wick article! I've been cleaning up articles related to the main article, e.g,, delinking, fixing repeated refs, etc. At this point, however, I have to get back to my studies. Let me know if you hear anything. - twelsht 17:13, 13 November 2007 (UTC)
- This is a quick note to wish you good luck on the project. I've devoted much time to the Youngstown article, and it's cutting into my real-life responsibilities. The most recent critique of the article (unlike that provided by SandyGeorgia) seems less constructive than dismissive. (The absence of sample edits and/or dialogue is telling.) After spending hours on technical improvements recommended earlier, I cannot afford to devote further time to the project. Best of luck! -- twelsht (talk) 13:36, 18 November 2007 (UTC)
- I'm making good on my pledge to hold off on the project. But here's a brief suggestion: Inform the FAC that you're bringing in an "outside" copy editor to look at the piece. Find someone who has no connection to the project. (We've all read the article so many times that, upon re-reading it, we slip into automatic pilot.) There's no guarantee that the FAC will keep the process open for this, or that Tony will strike his "oppose." But I think this is the best way to proceed. Good luck!-twelsht (talk) 10:44, 19 November 2007 (UTC)
- Scratch last comment. The article went through several peer reviews with competent editors, all of whom described the prose as "clear" and "engaging." I left a message of appreciation that highlighted SandyGeorgia's dedication. You might consider doing the same. Better to focus on positive aspects of this experience and move on. - twelsht (talk) 16:42, 19 November 2007 (UTC)
I don't get you.
I read your comments on the USS Constellation wiki, and don't quite understand your attitude. Literally. Were you being cynical, matter-of-fact, or what? I'm not trying to be critical of your contributions, its just that you wrote about how the ship was given a nickname as if it was foolish or.. something. I don't know. I was a sailor aboard the Connie (as we all called her) for a couple deployments and a few sea trials. This has no bearing on your article, I know, but I am trying to point out that regardless of origin, the ship was called the "Connie" by the sailors aboard it. There were a few variations: USS Constipation, Rusty Bitch, etc, but thats about it. Nothing anymore official than that.
Anyways, if you have any questions about the ship, feel free to ask or try to contact a sailor that has the answers.
Thanks, J —Preceding unsigned comment added by 75.51.90.12 (talk) 05:18, 2 November 2007 (UTC)
- Sir, I was being "matter of factly" and was not disparaging your ship, in fact, I was supporting it, and replying to someone who felt the text was biased. I only wrote the last two lines. But thanks for saying "I don't get you". Very polite. --Daysleeper47 12:02, 2 November 2007 (UTC)
Hi could you have a look at the top image I added to this article, I keep getting bugged by a bot saying it will be deleted. It's a free to use image, I've burnt a credit into the pic, and tried to meet the criteria, but I'm still being told it's going to be deleted. Can you look at this for me? Thanks Escaper27 13:05, 8 November 2007 (UTC)
- thanks for fixing the pic Escaper27 (talk) 17:41, 19 November 2007 (UTC)
- Oops, it's been deleted - I just don't understand why. Escaper27 (talk) 17:42, 19 November 2007 (UTC)
Youngstown, Ohio FAC
Hi, got your message. I'll give it a look when work allows me the time to focus on it! The Rambling Man (talk) 13:47, 19 November 2007 (UTC)
- I've added some comments at the FAC. Hope they're of some use. Don't hesitate to get in touch with me if you'd like to discuss any of the points raised or, indeed, anything else! Cheers for now. The Rambling Man (talk) 21:34, 19 November 2007 (UTC)
Hey, thanks for the nice shiny; that was very kind of you! I checked in on the FAC to see why it was stalled, and it doesn't look like you all have gotten back to Tony. Did you address all of his concerns? He is a very good copyeditor and prose reviewer, and one of your Supports is from ... someone with a colorful history ... so what you really need at this point is to satisfy Tony1 (talk · contribs) and get him to strike his oppose. If he's satisfied, I'll Support as well, since I consider him the CopyEditor Supreme. Best regards, SandyGeorgia (Talk) 00:32, 20 November 2007 (UTC)
- Well done on getting the article to FA. A real triumph of effort. Don't hesitate to get in touch if you have another FAC in the future that you'd like some 'external eyes' to have look over... All the best. The Rambling Man (talk) 21:35, 26 November 2007 (UTC)

Hi Sorry I was unable to find the time to review/contribute at the FAC. I've had a look at the article and just thought I would congratulate you on a well written and well referenced job. LordHarris (talk) 21:02, 27 November 2007 (UTC)

GREAT NEWS! Sorry I couldn't participate toward the end. The FAC appeared to be stalled, and I had to get back to my dissertation. In any case, you did a great job! Best, twelsht (talk) 07:51, 29 November 2007 (UTC)

Elmer/Joe Gedeon
Thanks for the note on the Elmer Gedeon talk page. The source I've found indicate that only 2 MLB players died in combat in WWII. The reference to four in the Joe Gedeon article does not inidicate on its face that it is limited to WWII. Perhaps that refers to four dying in combat in all wars? Also, the SABR biography on Joe Gedeon does tie him into the Black Sox scandal (describing him as the "ninth man out," and someone may want to add that info to his article. See: [1]. Upgrading B-class Youngstown articles
Hi Daysleeper, I asked Djrobgordon to give Youngstown Ohio Works a second look. He nominated this piece as a good article several months ago. The nomination went nowhere, but the article was featured on Baseball Portal. A few of the B-class articles related to Youngstown might benefit from a peer review, or even informal feedback from experienced editors. Articles that come to mind are Jimmy McAleer, John Reese, and Billy Evans. There may be a couple others. When you have a chance, let me know your thoughts. Best, twelsht (talk) 18:45, 5 December 2007 (UTC)
- Hi Daysleeper, Thanks for your message. Djrobgordon was evidently still wikibonked, so I requested a peer review for Youngstown Ohio Works a couple hours ago. I pulled up your message almost immediately afterwards. Once the peer review is completed, I'd certainly appreciate it if you'd nominate the piece for consideration as a Good Article–providing it's ready, of course. I contacted a volunteer reviewer who's familiar with the Youngstown article, so let's hope for solid feedback. Thanks, -- twelsht (talk) 18:20, 7 December 2007 (UTC)
- Not at all. Thanks for your help! It would be nice to get some of these B-class articles promoted. Best, -- twelsht (talk) 19:51, 7 December 2007 (UTC)
- Hi Daysleeper, I just recieved a message from Roger Davies, who suggested expanding the article by a few hundred words and going straight for an FA nomination. His comments are on my talk page. If this seems practical, it shouldn't be hard to bring the article up to 1,500 words. I can weave in material on the O-P League and old Vindicator coverage of the team's performance. By the way, my understanding of the GA nomination process was imperfect, to say the least. I interpreted the request for a peer review as a separate act that preceded the actual nomination. Otherwise, I would certainly have asked you to nominate this article for GA status. Thanks, again, for cleaning up the nomination. When you have a chance, let me know your thoughts on Roger's suggestion. Best, -- twelsht (talk) 04:06, 8 December 2007 (UTC)
Daysleeper STOP Vandalizing FDNY Page=
Next time you remove a section without first following procedures, I will have you permanently barred from Wikipedia. I wrote the section and it is completely accurate an unbiased as reported. You are a fool and a vandal and I will be closely monitoring your activities on anything I write.Swohtz (talk) —Preceding unsigned comment added by Swohtz (talk • contribs) 03:24, 28 November 2007 (UTC)
- PARDON ME. You are an ass, not a fool. I am moving forward with my plans to have you banned from Wikipedia. Your removal of that article which was WELL CITED (learn how to read), was VANDALISM and it has been reported as such. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Swohtz (talk • contribs)
Stop vandalizing the FDNY page on the Air Support Controversy. If you were actually literate you would see that the citations to the section are contained within it. It is a summary of a report that was presented using FDNY and NYPD documents by WABC-TV (NY). It contains nothing added, no weasel words, but simply a recantation of what was reported on national television. If that is not good enough for you, sit on a Halligan Tool. I have forgotten more about NYPD and FDNY than you will ever learn. NITWIT!
And if you take it out again I have 50 other people who will re-add the same section.
The helicopter is pending and it says so in my addition. STOP BEING A VANDAL. All you do is diminish the already tarnished reputation of Wikipedia. It is full of imbeciles like you that believe in the concept of ignoring the facts if you don;t like them. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.84.38.12 (talk) 00:40, 5 December 2007 (UTC)
- I will not steep to your name calling; I will let proper authorities handle this. --Daysleeper47 (talk) 00:58, 5 December 2007 (UTC)
Stop vandalizing the FDNY page. It will be fixed everytime you do it. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Swohtz (talk • contribs) 03:49, 6 December 2007 (UTC)
This is an automated message from CorenSearchBot. I have performed a web search with the contents of 44th New York Volunteer Infantry Regiment, and it appears to include a substantial copy of http://www.albany.edu/faculty/aballard/civilwar. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material; such additions will be deleted. You may use external websites as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences.
This message was placed automatically, and it is possible that the bot is confused and found similarity where none actually exists. If that is the case, you can remove the tag from the article and it would be appreciated if you could drop a note on the maintainer's talk page. CorenSearchBot (talk) 14:54, 10 December 2007 (UTC)
- This was corrected; I had intended to use that text as a framework, and to cite properly. I have reworked the language and am in the process of adding citations. A current comparison should reveal that there is now no direct similarity in language. If any editor finds a similarity, please let me know and I would be happy to rewrite the section. Regards, Daysleeper47 (talk) 15:02, 10 December 2007 (UTC)
Youngstown vandal
Whoops, didn't revert far enough, apologies. Must do better... tsk.. The Rambling Man (talk) 18:20, 10 December 2007 (UTC)
- Ah, the block expires 17 December if I remember correctly. I've also protected his talk page so he can't rant on about me being a half-wit Brit. That page should unprotect about 20 minutes after the block expires. He's on thin ice now, particularly with clear evidence he's edited anonymously which isn't so clever per WP:SOCK. I'm out of wiki-world at that time but I'll be asking a good wiki-colleague to keep an eye on his activities. Should you need him, sound a shout to Dweller, I'm hoping to brief him fully before I disappear for three and a half weeks on holiday! The Rambling Man (talk) 18:26, 10 December 2007 (UTC)
- No worries. If he hadn't contravened so many rules and been so downright rude about doing it, I might have been more generous with my time and energy. As it is he's close to a perm block. We'll see. Thanks for your good wishes! The Rambling Man (talk) 18:31, 10 December 2007 (UTC)
- P.S. Cheeky edit summary! I'm watching you! The Rambling Man (talk) 18:35, 10 December 2007 (UTC)
Hi, Daysleeper, Several reviewers recommended that the Youngstown Ohio Works article go straight to an FA nomination. Since this is part of the Youngstown Wiki Project, I wondered if you would be interested in nominating it. The piece has been revised and expanded, based on the feedback of several reviewers. One FAC committee member has pledged support in advance. So, it's probably as ready as it will ever be. Best, -- twelsht (talk) —Preceding comment was added at 19:08, 10 December 2007 (UTC)
- Thanks, Daysleeper, I appreciate the kind words. We'll see how this one goes! Then, after a reasonable break, perhaps we can focus on some of the other B-class articles. Best, --twelsht (talk) —Preceding comment was added at 20:23, 10 December 2007 (UTC)
- Thanks for recommending the infobox! It may be difficult to employ in this article because I don't have access to graphics like team logos. Still, I very much appreciate the support! Best, -- twelsht (talk) 22:58, 10 December 2007 (UTC)
Hi, Daysleeper, I've been tweaking this article on a Youngstown-born baseball figure for the past couple of days. While Jimmy McAleer doesn't have the number of references found in Youngstown Ohio Works, most of the material is supported with citations. When you have a chance, look it over and let me know what you think. Don't hesitate to recommend ways to improve it! This article might be a potential GA nominee down the road. Thanks, again, for all your help! -- twelsht (talk) 18:16, 11 December 2007 (UTC)
