Comments you would like me to answer

[edit]

I would be more than happy to offer my opinions on your articles!

  • David Edelstadt
    • Nice constructive article. Perhaps find a source for the image on the page?
  • Freie Arbeiter Stimme
    • Needs expanding. I have added the newspaper stub to it, as well as the "|thumb|" part of the image, so that the caption appears.
  • Yechi
    • Another good constructive article. Perhaps the image size should be reduced?
  • 770 Eastern Parkway
    • I would probably remove the links to the Rabbi's names becuase they are very likely not to be created, and could be regarded as a vanity article. Otherwise, good work!

Perhaps, if you would like other users to say what they like or dislike on certain articles that you have created, you might like to nominate the article for a peer review. This is when numerous users comment on what can be improved on the article. Even although it is mostly used for Featured Articles, it can still be used, however, without it wanting to have featured article status.

Hope these comments are of good use to you. Keep up the excellent work! --Kilo-Lima 22:01, 17 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I have cleaned up your Yechi article, and I hope that in the future you are more carefull regarding the terms that you use to describe chabad and it's followers. --Eliezer | £€åV€ m€ å m€§§åg€ 00:16, 18 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Just wondering, what type of personal involvement have you had with chabad, and what is your sources for your article of Yechi? --Eliezer | £€åV€ m€ å m€§§åg€ 00:26, 18 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]
If you don't mind telling me, Do you still consider yourself part of chabad? --Eliezer | £€åV€ m€ å m€§§åg€ 00:49, 18 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for answering my questions, I hope you enjoy wikipedia, and I look forward to improving the chabad related articles with you. Perhaps you can help out on improving the parts of the articles that speak about the good work that chabad has done in the past and is currently doing, instead of dwelling on Yechi and other such issues. --Eliezer | £€åV€ m€ å m€§§åg€ 00:54, 18 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

removing at chabad.org

[edit]

I have noticed that you are removing at chabad.org from many links. It is there so users can know in general what type of website they are going to before they go there, and you will see on my pages other names of oganizations by their website. I don't care either way but in the past some other users have specifically wanted the chabad.org part. --Eliezer | £€åV€ m€ å m€§§åg€ 19:49, 18 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

no problem, I have rolled back those changes. Isaiah_Horowitz is a prime example of what I was saying. --Eliezer | £€åV€ m€ å m€§§åg€ 19:53, 18 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for the compliment. :·D I'd love to create a category to go with it, but I don't know how. All I know about editing I've learned from reading the source code of various pages. I just figured out how to make a userbox today. So ... how would one go about making a userbox category? --¿ WhyBeNormal ? 04:50, 20 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

It's just that 40-odd people are using that portion of the template, and if you put more than about 3 letters in the boxes don't line up the same. I was worried the change would screw things up for people who like to keep their userboxes all in a line. I think it might be a good idea to ask around and see what people think before making a change that's going to affect the look of dozens of people's user pages. Your repeated removal of comments on your user talk page

[edit]

Please do not remove comments made on your user talk page. This is considered uncivil. - ulayiti (talk) 19:06, 20 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

From Wikipedia:Talk page: 'Actively erasing personal messages without replying (if a reply would be appropriate or polite) will probably be interpreted as hostile. In the past, this kind of behavior has been viewed as uncivil, and this can become an issue in arbitration or other formal proceedings.'
About me 'stalking' you, well, I just noticed that you had posted welcome messages and vandal warnings to people's user pages instead of their user talk pages. I notified you that you shouldn't do this, and you removed my comment. I restored it with a note that you shouldn't remove comments from your user talk page like that, and you removed it again without any kind of acknowledgement whatsoever. I am aware that you're not a vandal, but I was merely pointing out that if you do that in the future someone might think you are. So no biting here. :) - ulayiti (talk) 21:31, 20 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

User templates

[edit]

Hi. Just an opinionated comment. It seems that an Anarchist user template should be black and white; black and red is generally more associated with Anarchist Communism, Anarcho-Syndicalism, and others of the sort, whereas the pure Anarchist flag is nothing but black. If I knew how to construct templates, I'd make one as such. Just something to think about.

Misuse of Template:Disambig

Gotcha!
I think it could be turned into an disambiguation page, but the main meaning of "urchin" would need its own page which would be linked to just as for the band, film, and company; the disambiguation page has to be a "non-article" page according to the style guideline. -- 68.6.40.203 14:31, 21 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Translator list

[edit]

You mention at Talk:Yiddish language that you are a native speaker. Can I encourage you to sign up at Wikipedia:Translators_available#Yiddish-to-English? As you can see, we have only one person signed up there. While there are almost no articles in the Yiddish Wikipedia, it's not that unusual for someone to need translation help with a text they need to cite for an English-language article. - Jmabel | Talk 05:00, 22 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Actually, there's only one Wikipedian willing to be a translator. I am user:atheistrabbi, I was posting for several weeks and then forgot my password. If you have the ability, or know someone who has the ability, I'd appreciate if the account got deleted.

Also, despite my recent conversion to GNU Linux and Mozilla Firefox, I still have know idea how to type Hebrew alphabet in Wikipedia. I definitely am not in the mood of cut-and-pasting or typing awfully long character strings. I need to be able to either type on the keyboard or click around in the little box downstairs like when I'm writing in the Greek alphabet. Also, I need to figure out how to configure my browser so that the vowels go under the letters instead of being counted as a character in and of themselves; it makes it really difficult to read. Once that little hurdle is out of the way, I'm more than willing to contribute in any way necessary. In addition to being a native speaker of Yiddish, I work as an independent researcher and translator of Yiddish-language materials. And yes, I do take requests. Daykart 01:49, 23 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I don't know the details of how to get accounts closed or merged; it's out there somewhere in the Community Portal; I'm virtually certain it takes a developer, and hence tends not to happen. However, you don't need any "magic" to redirect the user page and user talk page to your new account, and I suggest that you do that.
On the typing thing: have you asked over at the Hebrew Wikipedia? I have only a bare clue how that is properly done on Microsoft systems, and no idea how it is done on GNU Linux. Browser should be irrelevant. -- Jmabel | Talk 07:12, 23 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Writing the real name of someone on wikipedia when that person may not want his name posted publicly is against wikipedia rules. Please be more carefull in the future. --Eliezer | £€åV€ m€ å m€§§åg€ 04:56, 27 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Even if said user is a vandal of the worst variety? Okay, I'll just yell at him in person. Daykart 05:09, 27 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

That would be better, but you may want to speak to him nicely explaining to him how wikipedia can be used for the good, and how he can work with other to improve it. --Eliezer | £€åV€ m€ å m€§§åg€ 05:42, 27 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

That might work. But then again, he is a Lubavitcher. Daykart 05:45, 27 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

You can try explaining to him that he is not the only Lubavitcher on wikipedia, and that other Lubavitchers have been able to work with others on improving the articles. The fact that he is a Lubavitcher is a plus because that means that he has alot of knoledge on Chassidus related subjects which wikipedia could use alot of help on. Let him know that if he is willing to agree to the rules of wikipedia and not vandalise, that he should let me know and I will unblock him. --Eliezer | £€åV€ m€ å m€§§åg€ 05:54, 27 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I will let him know, But now I feel left out. I too have alot of knowledge on Chasidus related subjects, point me in the right direction and I will help. I'm not your average Lubavitcher Freiack, I was one of the most learned and most Chassidisheh students in my class. You know, the kind who stays up at a Farbrengen until 4am and nonetheless comes to Seder Chasidus at 7:30am. My reasons for leaving the system had very little to do with an inability or unwillingness to conform. Oh yeah, and if you stop by Oholei Torah this Thursday night, feel free to say hi. I'll be the guy with a blond beard, long blond hair, and a tiny Yarmulka. Daykart 06:11, 27 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

The kind that stays up until 4am and then comes to Chassidus at 7:30 is usually falling asleep over his Maamor not to mention the hangover. Something to consider is the age that you left the system, the last few years of Zal is when you would have learnt chassidus at the deepest levels of all your years in Yeshiva. I don't know the exact year that you left yeshiva, but if it was when you were 18, then you missed 2 years of potentialy learning chassidus at a deeper level than ever before. Regarding articles related to chassidus that need work. There is all the Sefirot, and various levels of Seder Hishtalshelus which most of the articles deal more with the non jewish view than the Jewish one. Also what is missing is the Chassidus part of the Kabbalah related articles, meaning how to practically appy this to your day to day service of G-d and performance of mitzvot. I would do it but I get lazy...But if you are feeling left out those articles are a great place to start. --Eliezer | £€åV€ m€ å m€§§åg€ 06:29, 27 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I figured you'd come up with a Shtech like that. Only the Leil Shishi Farbrengens last until 4am; and with three hours of sleep, one is refreshed enough to stay awake throughout the entire day Friday. Although I left Yeshivah at the age of 18, I didn't quit learning Niglah or Chasidus when I dropped out. Actually, my Chaverim comment to me that only my Chitzoiniyus has changed, and I agree with them. It's hard to explain, but if you listen to me speak, (particularly about anarchism,) you will understand what I mean. I'll start working on those articles sometime this week. Freilichen Chanukah! Daykart 06:41, 27 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I did not know you when you were in Yeshiva, I only know from what I read online. But I'll take your word that you have continued to learn after you left yeshiva, hopefully we can get some of these articles cleaned up. Have a happy Chanukah. --Eliezer | £€åV€ m€ å m€§§åg€ 06:48, 27 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Moving pages and templates

[edit]

Greetings.

I noticed that you are part of the effort to move all the userbox templates to a name of the form Template:User $FOO, where $FOO is the name of the original template.

It is almost always preferable to move such pages using the "move" link at the top of your page (it's next to the "Watch" link), rather than cutting-and-pasting the contents of the page into a new page. When you move the page, all of the edit history for the page is retained, which is necessary for the GFDL requirements.

Just thought I'd mention it.

All the best.

Excuse the unsolicited communication, but I noticed your statement, elsewhere, "... my philosophy is post-Spinoza anti-Cartesian proto-Ni[e]tzsche anarcho-Judaism; part green, part red, part purple, part gold." ... Now, for someone who professes to be an anarchist, you seem rather keen on identifying with crowds, don't you? Just a thought. ElectricRay 18:42, 27 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Anarchism is not about avoiding identification with crowds, it's about resisting all forms of hierarchy and coercion. And besides, nowhere in that statement to I identify with a crowd. Daykart 19:07, 27 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]
is not compulsively labelling oneself simply a way of establishing ones place in "the" hierarchy? Like having a Ramones badge on your schoolbag: "hey, I'm cool, I'm one of these"? Do anarchists really like to define themselves like that?
By way of completely unrelated enquiry, and out of sheer curiosity, what is "anarcho-Judaism"? ElectricRay 00:03, 28 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Nice page, and long overdue. The only change I made was the change the phrase "the rebbe laid the cornerstone..." to "Schneerson laid the cornerstone...". Participant alert regarding Wikiproject on Advertising

[edit]

The Wikiproject No Ads, created as a backlash against the Answers.com deal, has served an important function in providing a space for users to express their disagreement with the Foundation proposal. While the current controversies about userboxes raise questions about political and social advocacy on Wikipedia, there should be greater flexibility regarding advocacy about Wikipedia in the Wikipedia namespace. Reported and linked by Slashdot and other press sources as a unique and spontaneous occurence in Wikipedia history, it has apparently had some impact as, despite being scheduled to begin in January, not a peep has been heard about the trial and proposed sponsored link since the deal's controversial announcement months ago. Currently, however, there is an attempt to delete the project or move it off Wikipedia altogether. Since the Foundation has provided no additional information and has not attempted to answer the specific questions that participants in the project raised, it is unclear if the Answers.com deal has been abandoned or simply delayed. Until the situation becomes more clear, I believe the group should still have a place in the Wikipedia namespace. Sincerely, Tfine80 23:57, 9 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

John MacDougall

[edit]

You recently flagged John MacDougall for "notability".

Mac was a regional giant in the news business - the very voice and face of the infant TV news business in the upper midwest as the form took shape. It would not be an exaggeration to say he was the Walter Cronkite of the upper midwest from 1955 to 1975.

While you may be unfamiliar with upper midwest broadcast history, it'd be a mistake to concluse MacDougall was not notable; he is certainly more than notable enough by Wikipedia standards.

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on David Edelstadt requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page appears to be an unambiguous copyright infringement. This page appears to be a direct copy from https://libcom.org/history/articles/1866-1892-david-edelstadt. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images taken from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites or other printed material as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

If the external website or image belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text or image — which means allowing other people to use it for any reason — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. The same holds if you are not the owner but have their permission. If you are not the owner and do not have permission, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission for how you may obtain it. You might want to look at Wikipedia's copyright policy for more details, or ask a question here.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay.
