Fianna Fáil[edit]

His family have been supporters of Fianna Fáil since the party was founded by Eamonn De Valera. His grandfather on his mothers side was a major supporter of the party and David is now in the Cumann that his grandfather once was a member of, the Philip Daly Cumann. His grandfather died in 1980. David First joined Fianna Fáil in September 2008 when he started studying in UCD and became a member of the Kevin Barry Cumann. However he didn't become heavily involved in the Cumann due to the fact that he wanted to become more involved in his own Constituency. As a result he joined his local Ógra Fianna Fáil in Louth in 2009 and was elected as the Assistant Secretary of the Ógra in August 2009. At the Ógra AGM he was also elected as a member of the North Louth Comhairle Ceanntair. In November 2009 he was nominated as a candidate by the Ógra to the National Youth Committee for Ógra Fianna Fáil. He was elected with Damien Gorman from Offaly Ógra, unopposed due to the fact they were the only two candidates nominated. In February 2010 at the AGM of the Philip Daly Cumann he was elected as the Membership Officer for the Cumann. On the same night the AGM for the Comhairle Ceanntair was held after each individual AGM of the Cumann's in North Louth were held. David was elected to the position as Vice-Chairperson of the North Louth Comhairle Ceanntair, the Senior Fianna Fáil Party in North Louth along with long term Fianna Fáil member John Temple becoming Chairperson. This was a huge achievement by him since he only joined Louth Fianna Fáil in August 2009.
