Again, welcome!  Even though I've been making changes to some of your edits, don't take it personally. I appreciate the work you've done, and we could always use some more swing dancers on Wikipedia! —Cswrye 18:42, 10 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Dance topics

[edit]

Thank you for your comment. Yes, most people are not aware of the history and background behind most dances, even those who can do the dance well. However, keep in mind that most editors are acting in good faith and probably believe that they are right. The history of dance isn't always straightforward, especially when variations of the dance start to form, and the early days of dances aren't always well-documented until they start to become popular. Just remember that it is policy at Wikipedia to use verifiable information. There is some leniency with that for new articles and for uncontroversial information, but all good articles should cite their information using reliable sources. One of the problems that has been brought up at the Dance WikiProject is that dance information tends to be passed down orally in classes rather than being published, which often makes it hard to cite good sources on Wikipedia. If you can help out with that in any way, it would be greatly appreciated! —Cswrye 00:20, 11 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I just got your message on MySpace (sorry, but I hardly ever check MySpace anymore). Just to clear things up, I don't think that I disagreed with any of the edits you made. I'm fairly knowledgeable of the swing dance history, not nearly as much as you, of course, but I'm not ignorant of it either. However, Wikipedia's NPOV policy requires that it report all major perspectives, even the wrong ones, and that it cannot takes sides on it. I changed your edits because it stated that other perspectives were wrong, which isn't how an article is supposed to be worded. Also, I apologize if I sounded too harsh in the edit summaries. When a new person shows up on Wikipedia, it's hard to know just how trustworthy that person is. Some new people are vandals, and others are people who only claim to be experts. Now that I know who you are, I know that you are reliable, but don't take it personally when I try to follow Wikipedia's policies. —Cswrye 04:26, 6 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
