Craig Huffer[edit]

Hi Crusoe8181, The athlete Craig Huffer does meet notable athlete criteria and features on IAAF All-time lists as well as being the 15th fastest senior ever over his distance in Australia. Also he has ran the same or better performances over the 1500 meters than several other collegiate middle distance runners with wikipedia pages such as German Fernandez and Miles Batty, as well bettering the performances last year of Australian athletes with wikipedia articles such as Jeremey Roff. He he also proved to be successful at the international level by winning the Mondon Keien Meeting last year [1] an IAAF sanctioned event and meeting another of Wikipedia's athlete notability criteria. Wellington athletic club (talk) 08:52, 16 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, hope he does make it, but I can't find anything to allow on WP:ATHLETE just yet; His is a well-written article, however, and do not be deterred from defending it. Regards (Crusoe8181 (talk) 09:33, 16 May 2011 (UTC)).[reply]

I’m not sure of the exact details however I do remember hearing of some controversy regarding Huffer not being selected in the Commonwealth Games team, so it appears the athlete's name does pop up in the media. Wombo92 (talk) 10:25, 16 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

A lot of people who DID go to the Commonwealth Games (29th place in lawn bowls, KO first round of boxing, for instance) do not pass WP:ATHLETE as well. Here is someone who didn't even make the team. We don't include everyone who pops up in the media or we woud have articles on 37 crore Indians (all on Facebook) just for a start. (Crusoe8181 (talk) 10:36, 16 May 2011 (UTC)).[reply]

Strong Keep A sub-4 miler as confirmed by the IAAF is a notable achievement and is still an indicator of international level athlete and more notable than making an Australian Comm Games team. Anyhow the athlete's 2010 1500 meter time was significantly faster than the winning time at the Dehli 1500 meters Commonwealth Games final so we're not talking about a fringe; 29th place in lawn bowls, KO first round of boxing type athlete. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 119.18.21.81 (talk) 23:52, 16 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Counties[edit]

Are there more for Category:Counties of Australia? Do you think the Victoria ones could be called "X County" instead of "County of X"? I know, both names are valid, but most county articles use "X County", independent of official names or so. If you find ambiguous county names, there is now: Category:County name disambiguation pages TakakaCounty (talk) 17:50, 15 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

completed Category:Counties of Australia except for list articles. Vic counties are always "County of X", "X County" wouldn't make any sense to any of us who live in one; NSW a bit of a tossup but may as well leave (Australian counties are purely cadastral and only used for property titles and occasionally as convenient delimiters for State legislation such as drought-relief eligibility, though some, such as the Nineteen Counties have historical importance. Regards (Crusoe8181 (talk) 09:48, 16 August 2010 (UTC)).[reply]
Only two things to consider, if the article titles are "County of X". 1) I see you remove ", Statename" - which I support. When the naming is County of X, you may accidentally move the article to a name, that is a valid name for a NZ, US, or whatever county. "County of X" is just another way to refer to "X County". E.g. to avoid ambiguous article titles, I created County of Stanley as redirect. If it would be possible to use "X County" for article names, it is safer. Do you think NSW could stay? NT currently has X County too, WA has both. 2) Grouping in categories does not work on its own, sort keys need to be added. - I have problems to add the sorter "|sortname" via HotCat. PS I renamed NT and Qld categories. (Category:Counties of Australia) TakakaCounty (talk) 10:44, 16 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Category:Lands administrative divisions of Australia is now a bit shaky, WA is always going to be a mess. "X County" would be neater except unacceptable naming in Victoria and Queensland. I am now in the County of Normanby not Normanby County; admittedly we now have County of Evelyn and Evelyn County but hat notes can sort that out. Regards (Crusoe8181 (talk) 11:15, 16 August 2010 (UTC)).[reply]
Some research for Stanley at Talk:County_of_Stanley,_Queensland, also Google Books gave me Adelaide County. It seems to be at least acceptable to call these things "X County" - or was in the past. @Evelyn - that way not contained in Category:County name disambiguation pages. TakakaCounty (talk) 11:36, 16 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
The map at County_of_Stanley,_Queensland shows Co. of- all these units are non-dministrative, and their original naming remains except for the occaisonal modern misinterpretation (Crusoe8181 (talk) 12:23, 16 August 2010 (UTC)).[reply]
Nice you removed all ", New South Wales" were possible. I went through all that still have it and created some more dabs. Buller, Selwyn would need to be moved and need dab, see List_of_former_territorial_authorities_in_New_Zealand#Counties, and for consistency IMO Evelyn too. Talkback[edit]

Hi Crusoe8181, I (59.92.78.76 on 12 April 2011) reverted/undid some unnecessary changes -- done by Iohannes Animosus (Typo fixing using AWB) 19:30, 11 April 2011 through tool -- in sections of Geography, Economy and Education of the article Bhuvanagiri, Tamil Nadu. But you again changed it for the Geography section. Chidambaram is a "world famous" temple town and so many foreigners visit it daily for its sculptures, architecture and dance festival. I belong to that place. Thanks.

Spectacle Island[edit]

Hey Crusoe8181, just letting you know that your recent addition to Spectacle Island (Port Jackson) about it being on National Heritage List is actually incorrect: the island that your link is referring to is Spectacle Island (Hawkesbury River). Personally I don't know why there are two Spectacle Islands within 40km of each other, and only two river systems apart, but oh well.

Just letting you know before I remove the Heritage list reference and transfer the Category listing over to the Hawkesbury River one. Terovian (talk) 13:03, 9 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry, just had a bit more of an extensive check and the Port Jackson Spectacle Island is actually on the National Heritage List, but was added 2004, not 2006, and the link you gave is still for the Hawkesbury River one. So I'll just be cleaning that up then. Apologies :) Terovian (talk) 13:09, 9 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The second administrative level of Nigeria is the state level, this is why I have moved many of the LGA's and towns to titles that place them in the states rather than just the federal level. Another reason for the move, apart from the levels of government, is for towns with the same name in different parts of Nigeria not to be confused with each other. For example, there are two 'Onicha' towns in Nigeria, one in Ebonyi State and another in Abia State, if the articles for these two towns were created it would be more convenient to name them 'Onicha, Abia' and 'Onicha, Ebonyi' than it would to name them 'Onicha, Nigeria' and 'Onicha, Ebonyi' which would cause confusion. Many other articles for towns in other countries have this format. Ukabia - talk 17:15, 19 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Wikipedia:Naming conventions (geographic names) states the conventions for place naming- Places are often disambiguated by the country in which they lie, if this is sufficient. However, when tags are required for places in the United States, Canada and Australia, use the name of the state, province or territory (if the place lies within a single such entity). If using the country name would still lead to ambiguity, use the name of a smaller administrative division (such as a state or province) instead. except for the countries listed as exceptions. I created many of the LGA articles some time ago (admittedly, most still as stubs, but we will get there) and in sorting out the shambles at that time could see no reason to deviate from the convention. If we are to change this convention it would require discussion and consensus, otherwise all articles must be reverted to their previous disambiguation. Further, the states of Nigeria are known officially and commonly with the State suffix- Adamawa is not a state, but a region, Adamawa State is the name used; Sokoto is not a state, Sokoto State is, so the correct dab must be XXX State, if a discussion should be initiated and were it to lead to a change.

As for leaving Local Government Area off the names of LGAs in Nigeria, this is on the principle that many of these are towns/emirates etc as well as LGAs and for this country the most reasonable minimum division is the LGA; to add Local Government Area to the title would require another article and yet another stub if anything was to be said about the town of Bakura, Nigeria or Bakura, Zamfara State. In Nigeria the LGAs are set in stone with ethnolinguosociopolitical boundaries and are not arbitrary administrative areas as are more common in the New World. Thanks for editing my village page. I really appreciate it. But I'm bit disappointed with the below comment removed from my page:

N. Shivram (s/o Dodda Nyathappa) was a notable K.S.R.T.C bus conductor was born in this village. He always used to encourage people to work hard to achieve success in their lives. He donated land to School.

He was really a very nice person & he used to help lot of people of this village hence I updated this info on my village page. Could you please let me know if I can update it back.

Thanks in Advance. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Reddi94 (talkcontribs) 10:05, 28 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

As a general rule, no- people mentioned should be notable (having their own article) or have a reference. Is there a website or book which mentions this person? If so, then let me know and I can help to include. The idea with Wikipedia is that all facts should be verifiable by someone like me who is a long way from your village, otherwise no-one can be sure of the facts. And no HTML for emphasis, which is rather common in articles about India. Your first article was quite impressive, actually, but you have have to put up with those who are more familiar with the conventions. List of people on stamps of Brazil[edit]

Thanks for your comments. I am learning. Your compromise makes sense. I am glad there is no absolute ban on the technique since I have used similar intralanguage links in other lists, notably List of people on stamps of Mexico and Portugal. It will take some doing correcting all of these links. I have also used links to external articles where there is no article in the foreign language Wikipedia. I know that external links are supposed to come at the end of an article, but what is important to stamp collectors is for the list to be complete and in an easy format to consult, even if there is no English language article about the person. I do disagree to some extent with your notion that people who appear on a stamp should have an article in English. Some portrayed are quite minor, such as the teacher of the year or the president of a local health organization. Speedy deletion "db-same"[edit]

I see that you tagged Market Towers Shopping Centre for speedy deletion with "db-same" ( CSD A10). However, this speedy deletion criterion is specifically for recently created articles, which this was not, as it dated from January 2007. Instead of deleting the article I have redirected it to the one it duplicated. I think the main reason for not deleting long established articles in this situation is that there may be external links to it, which would be killed by deletion of the article. fallingrain[edit]

First, thanks for reverting this and the other 7 likewise, if you look at the page history (e.g. of Bilari) you'll see this guy from 122.177.x.x has been trying for dozens of times (approaching 50 times now) to add this gibberish to these articles, and I keep reverting him. WP:RPP don't think it's good enough to protect these articles, so I guess I'll need to keep doing it. You saved me one revert, so if you'll keep watching those pages I'm sure we can keep them cleaner more swiftly.

Second, I see above several people discussing fallingrain, and I am not aware of anything official about this site. What's your take on the subject? The site is used in thousands (about 5500) pages, last I checked. Should it be removed from all? --Muhandes (talk) 13:20, 28 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, this time you beat me to the draw reverting our friend with a grievance! Fallingrain is on the Blacklist somewhere; and a bot removed most External Links a while ago- it is a list of weather stations so population statistics (7km radius) are useless; elevation is that of the weather station, not necessarily that of a nearby village and coords have caused problems. I (and others) have exterminated it from Australia and NZ (where we have reliable official sources); bit problematic in other countries such as India, Nigeria etc but I feel that coords dont need refs as long as they show on Google maps or others. Once there was about 9000 pages but I dont see any reason for a fanatical removal unless used for a population reference, but I tend to discourage further use. A very useful tool however. Regards (Crusoe8181 (talk) 10:02, 29 October 2010 (UTC)).[reply]
I see your point and I agree. Coords don't need ref unless they are disputed, and I get the point about elevation. I'll remove them when I edit another article, and the only information is the elevation and coords. Rain statistics are useful of course. Is there some place a discussion of this took place? It might be good to keep in case such edit is disputed. Best regards. --Muhandes (talk) 10:21, 29 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Was there. Nearest I can find now is Wikipedia:Reliable sources/Noticeboard/Archive 63#Fallingrain.com. Cant imagine there being any dispute about climate stats, just that Fallingrain doesnt pretend to be a gazeteer. Regards (Crusoe8181 (talk) 10:39, 29 October 2010 (UTC)).[reply]

Most-populated city neighbourhoods of India[edit]

Suburbs and neighborhoods of Indian cities can be categorized by population. Some of them or densely and over populated while others have normal population. So creating this category was for awareness about thick population in urban areas of India. In fact, after the name of suburb or neighborhood, name of the concerned city also should be displayed. Eg: Dharavi, Mumbai. But provision to this is not provided. Request reconsider the case and not delete this category.--UtharaMalabar (talk) 09:54, 30 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Silly change[edit]

The town in New York state is not known as "Alfred Town" but Alfred or the Town of Alfred. This change should be undone and a move request filed since you failed to even propose the move. Bidgee (talk) 10:58, 31 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Why move Dubbo? Just because we have an unsourced article called "Battle of Dubbo" doesn't mean it is correct, looking at Google Books shows that "Battle of Dubba" (Result was 295) is far more common then "Battle of Dubbo" and "Battle of "Dabbo" (both showed results of two). Again you failed to discuss since it is clearly debatable. You have also left a mess behind and I'm not cleaning it up. Bidgee (talk) 05:46, 2 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
At least the uncorrected links from a previous move have automatically been corrected which won't involve too much of my time to revert! There will be no mess Regards (Crusoe8181 (talk) 05:51, 2 November 2010 (UTC)).[reply]

Not ill-considered, per WP:AT (only one Hindmarsh Square in the world) and yes, the others should be changed as well- just cant do everything at once;
Hindmarsh Square is in a park category which I was working on. No discussion because if following conventional naming best to get on and do it and deal with any demur as it arises, which is seldom. Regards (Crusoe8181 (talk) 11:32, 10 November 2010 (UTC)).[reply]

Pelican Point[edit]

Hello again-as far as I am aware geographic names (rather than official bounded localities) are disambiguated by brackets eg Point Danger (Australia); there a number of Pelican Point's in Australia, and a number in South Australia as well so these would be inappropriate as dabs; hence Pelican Point (Adelaide) by convention as the best match. will sort out others tomorrow- Cheers (Crusoe8181 (talk) 12:06, 10 November 2010 (UTC)).[reply]

Not the point. There in NO single convention. Do your homework BEFORE making assumptions and making unilateral decisions based on inadequate investigation. Amusement, old school style[edit]

I wanted to know why there was so many land districts in WA and why they had such whacked names, so I took a trip to the State Records Office and got my answer in these quotes from letters between the Chief Draftsman and Surveyor General in 1902 and 1905:

  • "This map is being sent to many parts of the world and it will not hurt the state to show as few blanks as possible."
  • "It will be an advantage to have the state divided into as many districts as possible to show to people."
  • "If the eastern States are each divided into 70 or 80 provinces or counties on a smaller land area it should not be unreasonable for us to possess even 90."
  • "I should much prefer euphonious native names if they can be obtained for these proposed new districts as I think we should lose no opportunity of perpetuating the nomenclature of a fast disappearing race, apart from which the liability of duplicating names is largely increased if the surnames of individuals are devoted to land districts."

A couple of litle things, here gives the current name of Doongan Land District as Deungan and also gives official coords for all districts which I used; the coords for counties I added using the ruler/pencil method on a moving bus. In Victoria the early counties were given English names (Grant, Follett, Polwarth, Normanby etc), the last batch surveyed in the late 1860s were given indigenous names (Kara Kara, Moira, Lowan) on official instructions; but the interesting bit is surveyor Wilmott (later SurveyorGeneral) who couldn't quite come at the new instructions and proceeded to name Dimboola (Vic and NSW), Baddaginnie, Tarrawingee (Vic and NSW), Peechelba, Mangalore etc (Indian and Sinhalese, mainly) and pretended they were indigenous. When I find good refs I will work into articles. Cheers (Crusoe8181 (talk) 10:08, 8 December 2010 (UTC)).[reply]

Regarding Changes/contribs to topic "Khukhrain"[edit]

Hi Crusoe8181

As you have mentioned that "we do not copy from websites, and from Wiki mirrors", in respect to this we can present the mail in front of you in which wikipedia accepted that THIS CONTENT IS FROM WWW.KHUKHRAINS.COM AND WWW.KHUKHRAIN.TK

Last year the content was copied by one of the user name "Anoop Kohli", the same was reported to wikipedia through a mail, wikipedia accepted this and replyed back and also blocked the user name. But this year an ip address 59.178.33.133 edited the content again.

Most of the contents has been copied and order of the lines has been changed this time. Please in case wiki wants to use the content then please refer the website in the refernces as well.

The content earlier/originally prepared by wikipedia was completly different from present one.

According to WIPO, the person or site which first publishes the content or thoughts reserves the rights for the same. We request you to support us in reverting the content to original one mentioned earlier by wikipedia and incase the content is required we can provide you with the same but it must have the refernce to the website.

Thanks and do reply

Instead of adding ref tags, why not just add refs?[edit]

I had a look at your user contributions which I noticed because you were adding ref tags to articles which had refs; some might need unref tags, and some yes needed at least a basic ref. But your efforts would be more wiki-contributory if you'd actually just ADD CITES instead of demanding them; the standard basic citation for British Columbia place articles is BCGNIS (which was already on many of the pages you added the ref tag to).Skookum1 (talk) 19:43, 13 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I flicked those tags through, so I have a list and will come back to them and add refs as you suggest (after I sort out a few Indian ones), would appear to be some dead links but they will show up in due course. Cheers (Crusoe8181 (talk) 23:36, 13 December 2010 (UTC)).[reply]

Pakala, Prakasam district[edit]

Why are you removing the facts on Pakala Page. Do you expect a news paper article or a research effort that gives you facts on how many graduated in a small village. The numbers I gave is a rough estimate that was given by the folks living in the Village. Removing data twice is rude.

Hi there. I'm afraid I have to disagree with you on this edit. Per WP:NLIST "every entry in any such list requires a reliable source attesting to the fact that the named person is a member of the listed group". We all know a Wikipedia article is not a reliable source, so having an article does not satisfy this requirement (it does satisfy the notability requirement from the same guideline). I don't see why Ahmednagar should be an exception to this rule. Best regards.--Muhandes (talk) 07:06, 26 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

St or St. George Girls[edit]

G'day Crusoe... :) Whether or not it's correct, there is quite clearly a dot in St. George Girls' High School. You can see this in the photo at the article:

St George Girls High School

I think we should move it back. -danjel (talk to me) 11:19, 28 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Boondocks SC, perhaps, but a selective school with a sign outside with four punctuation errors and an additional grammatical error doesn't say much for our educational standards!!!! (maybe the sign has now been removed). It is St George Girls High School (I did miss removing the apostrophe as most schools do use the possessive style). 100% consistent on the school website and on their latest Annual Report, and also on the front of the school. A dot on the school crest but that is a design device or an archaism. St (Saint or street), Mt (Mountain) are standard abbrevs. in Australia though a few schools and churches do use St. and if they do, we do too. If they don't we don't and I have been using the school website and as long as that is consistent I have moved the article. Another question, for a girls' school- Alumni or Alumnae ?? Regards, (Crusoe8181 (talk) 02:18, 29 December 2010 (UTC)).[reply]
Heh. I think St. and St are interchangeable.
I see that you've made the change regardless... :P I think you should probably have waited, but whatever. I'm not particularly bothered one way or the other. I think I'd lean towards "Alumni", just because it's relatively gender neutral. Otherwise we'd have to go through every school and add "Alumni/Alumnae", which would be a bit silly.
In other news, if you find a listed alumnus who doesn't seem to have a reference, could you add {{citation needed}}? This gives people a chance to actually fix it up. For example, I think Yvonne Cossart did go to North Sydney GHS, as I think I've seen her on the wall there. I just don't have a reference. But hey, someone else might. We'll give someone a chance to come up with a reference, huh? I've done this for the others that you've removed also. -danjel (talk to me) 10:34, 29 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Just to be clear, if a citation isn't provided in a few weeks, then I imagine you and I will go through and remove them. -danjel (talk to me) 10:46, 29 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Three comments need addressing and it is late- Alumnae- I did ask and then checked, majority of girls' schools in Australia use that form so we may as well have a standard and see Alumnus for answer to the bit silly (even if I see it as a tad misogynous). As for Yvonne Cossart (whoevever she might be as she is redlinked) see above on my talk page where I have been chided for being too nice on Indian articles; Debbie Dogsbody may have gone to school with Yvonne and Shirleene Shockswaller as well, but if there is no ref or article on anyone of them out they must go or it encourages every spotty 13 year-old and their mates to add themselves. St./St -a very small minority of schools seem to have no idea what they are actually called so I have left them alone and some do call themselves St. Whatever, but most are consistent; St is most commonly used in Australia (and is obligatory for placenames), some other countries do seem to prefer the little dot on the end. I was probably a bit tough on my caption on the unfortunate sign, maybe the pic should be quietly removed. Regards to all (Crusoe8181 (talk) 11:15, 29 December 2010 (UTC)).[reply]
I think the criticism levelled at you above is a bit premature. In any case, we can remove them later if we find there are no good citations. Googling for the people named turns up good info, such as [[1]]. There should probably be articles on these people, so maybe this will encourage a student at the schools to do a little bit of work?
I'm ambivalent on St. vs. St, but if you feel strongly one way, then fine. Not bothered. :)
Lastly I'd prefer that Wikipedia use gender neutral nouns per WP:Gender-neutral_language, as we are required to do in academic circles. The gender neutral term is probably Alumni, but, again, I don't feel strongly enough about this to argue, and I don't believe that this is a breach of the policy. So.. *shrug* :) -danjel (talk to me) 12:33, 29 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I don't pretend to be an oracle, but I'm of the impression that alumnus is singular, and alumni is plural - gender is not involved. Pdfpdf (talk) 12:09, 31 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Melbourne bus template[edit]

Well, the trolleys are done well, linking back to an article, but these are way out of the realm of wikipedia. Every single posting in hundreds of articles links back to a template connected to half a dozen others with 300+ switches, then links out to the bus company schedule, they're broken all over the place, they take up most of the article, they're in inappropriate articles, etc., etc.

I can't see there will be any chance of their staying in their current form. All of the information is available at the bus company, and it's not our duty to poorly duplicate that. Still, a basic useful template that links back to an article with all of the template information, ie, bus lines, destinations, numbers, company, would be okay and appropriate in their place.

I posted at the Village Pump (Policy), but then decided they are just so over the top, deleting them from the articles and posting the template for deletion would be a better way to go. I did post on the creator's talk page, also, but nothing more than this.

--Kleopatra (talk) 05:35, 31 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

St. Mark's College[edit]

Actually, the copyright statement does use the dot, as does the footer. The header happens to not use the dot, as do other instances of that particular font (I have a copy of the current newsletter next to me which omits it). The College itself uses the "dot" in all paperwork, official or not, and it appears without fail throughout the College Constitution as well as the documentation regarding the establishment of the college. Hell, even their mailing address (yes, in Adelaide, what of it?) uses the "dot". The only time it is not used - officially - seems to be in capitalisation. If you require references I would be happy to scan some paperwork for your scrutiny, should you require it. ABVS1936 (talk) 15:19, 2 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

famous to notable[edit]

Will you please stop your "famous to notable" edits? Who are you to decide who is famous and who isn't? Just because some European isn't a household name in Australia doesn't mean that he isn't one anywhere in the world. Do you realize that at the Boppard article, you removed the name of a very famous architect -- well, very famous in German-speaking Europe? This is unacceptable. No, he doesn't have an article, in the English WP at least, but check out his German article. Rather than try to consign these people to oblivion, why not write articles about them, or have someone translate one from another WP? Stick to things you know something about, please.Kelisi (talk) 13:49, 23 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Famous is subjective, very famous is very subjective; notable is an attempt (on Wikipedia) at objectivity. Dear old Nikolaus and his more recent compatriot Dieter-Georg the darts player have yet to achieve notability by article or reference on English Wikipedia. Allowing for the bias towards the English-speaking world Nikolaus may well be deserving. So, why not write an article about him or stick to things you know something about. conflicting priorities and associated discomfort[edit]

I have a couple of conflicting priorities with which I am uncomfortable. My observation is that they cause you no discomfort at all, so I'm writing to you in order to understand your POV, so that I can adopt your POV and no longer feel uncomfortable.

On the one hand, unnecessary disambiguations are unnecessary.
On the other hand, inconsistency is inconsistent.

For example, the original, and this edit to it, are both very half-arsed pieces of work. So I thought I'd do the job "properly". It didn't take me long to work out that there were several "proper" solutions, and they were conflicting. I ended up with this, which is consistent, and also matches the page names.
However, in the course of editing, I discovered that many of the pages are "unnecessarily" disambiguated.
However, to remove the "dismabiguator" would create inconsistency.

I would be most interested to learn your POV on the matter.

I have to admit that my personal preference is consistency over necessity, but as I said, I'm not entirely comfortable with that preference. Thanks in advance. Cheers, Pdfpdf (talk) 01:34, 13 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Coords[edit]

Hi Crusoe,

The Administrator who refused my request for deletion was rather ummmm.... rude about it in my opinion. It was only the second time I had requested a page be deleted and so I feel that rather than just say my request was nonsense he should have messaged me to explain the correct steps to take. Oh well........apparently my request having to be done by the book was far more important than an article being on here that was rubbish.

Now for the coords and doing them so fast. I have been asked for my secret previously and told them but then had to immediately kill them. :)

Since you are a South African and hopefully the Aussies will give you a caning in the Cricket World Cup I felt sorry for you. lol

Heres how it works. 1. Have the Wikipedia page in question opened for editing. Also have your Sandbox open and have the following ready to copy and paste - coord||||S||||E|type:landmark_region:AU|display=title (You need to add the { brackets in the Sandbox. If I have them here it will ruin what I am trying to show you) (Change the AU to suit and so on) AND Added coordinates

2. Also have a window for the White Pages, Google Maps and Google search opened. Also have Google Earth running. (I hope you have that installed, its essential for this!!)

3. Now for the article in question. If you know the address it is usually quite easy. Just type the address into Google Earth and it will take you there. Put your mouse pointer over the crosshairs for the location and there are your cordinates.

4. If you dont know the address then that is why you have the white pages (The phone directory), Google maps, and Google search ready. The secret is usually getting the address.

5. If the article is about a general location (Such as a desert and things like that) I have had to sometimes resort to using Google Images. Have a look on there and usually some website will be gracious enough to have a map of the location in question. Use Google Earth to match the area shown, plop your mouse pointer into the middle of the area, and once again you have the coordinates.

Copy and paste the 'coord||||S||||E|type:landmark_region:AU|display=title' (you will need to change the AU and so on) and then fill in the blanks. Once you are finished editing, copy and paste "Added coordinates" into the edit summary and then save it. If you are going to add coordinates to many articles every second saved quickly adds up.

I hope all this makes sense to you. I have added coordinates to around 1500 articles and so learnt how best to find the coordinates in the fastest possible way. Some of them were EXTREMELY hard to find but I enjoyed doing them the most for some strange reason. If you do run into an article where you just can't get any info to do the coordinates let me know the article name and the problem. If I can find the coordinates I will do so and tell you how I went about getting them.

Have a great day!!

Now I need to go find my carving knife........ LOL Rocketrod1960 12:18, 17 February 2011 (UTC)

OK, thought you had a real secret! Street map works too, third parameter of the link. The backlog of coords missing has come down from 4700+ to whatever it is now, thanks to a few who have put in the effort. Don't be deterred on speedies, I've just had one knocked back and won't lie awake worrying about it, some admins do it, some explain why not and the odd one can just be plain r...- regards (Crusoe8181 (talk) 09:32, 18 February 2011 (UTC)). KHS[edit]

Thank you for fixing the typos on the KHS page. I do have some concerns for your edits however.

If you are fixing things such as the typos on a page it is unnecessary for you to leave a edit summary such as, "it is pousible, but unlikley thet noteable and gruaduate are taught as werds in Texxas skools" that is both insulting and completely pointless and I can only assume that your edits are vanalism. Just leave an explanation of what you altered so that we know what you did. Also, do you know anything about Kermit High School? If you did, you would not delete Jim Sharp as a notable gradute. If you don't know something for sure, please do not make changes to it. I have undone your edits and fixed them correctly. I hope you understand were I am coming from. As a resident of Kermit, Texas and a student at KHS, I hope you can understand why it upsets me to see those kinds of comments left as a explanation to fixing a simple typing error.

Thanks,

KTownUSA (talk) 22:25, 20 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

OK, but vanalism, gradute you have used above would see to validate my comments about spelling; Jim Sharp you have now linked to a respected footballer in Melbourne who, to the best of my knowledge, has never been near Texas. Please do not take offence (American English offense) and continue to edit, be bold and sometimes, be told. As for my edit summary we all lose patience and the articles on the schools who claim to be the best always have the worst spelling. Kind regards (Crusoe8181 (talk) 10:20, 21 February 2011 (UTC)).[reply]

OK, I understand your position and I also thank you for your reply and clarification over my concerns, but I still want to further clarify something. The Jim Sharp you are talking about is not the same Jim Sharp that graduated from Kermit High School. That is exactly why I included this information after his name (before you first edited the page) “Two Time PRCA World Champion Bullrider” to avoid any misperceptions. I also want to say that I did not add a link to Jim Sharp as you claimed. I realize that someone could feasibly confuse the two men, but as I said before, I made his title clear. I know you may think that I am just a stupid hick living out in the middle of nowhere but I tend to know what I am talking about, even if my spelling is not the greatest.

Again, I do want to thank you for taking a further look into this. If you happen to find anything else on the KHS page in need of editing in the future, please don’t hesitate to fix it.

Thanks,

KTownUSA (talk) 18:19, 21 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Jim "Razor" Sharp is now a redlink. All he needs is an article to change to a blue link, which is where you come in. Write it, with references (his website doesn't qualify as one, but plenty more online) and if a reasonable start it should pass notability concerns. Check a few other articles in the same area, copy/paste etc. and away you go. If you dont like my title you may wish to use Jim Sharp (rodeo rider) and if help needed, just ask. Melbourne map[edit]

I just realised I forgot to answer one of your questions about the Melbourne map. Re George Evans (explorer) and Project Gutenberg[edit]

Hi Crusoe,

On 11 January you removed the bulk of the text from George Evans (explorer) as a copyvio [3].

While there is no doubt that the body text was basically word for word from here, the content at Project Gutenberg Australia is claimed to be public domain, and therefore isn't it able to be copied? To quote from their homepage: "The books are in the 'public domain' in Australia and all have been prepared by volunteers." and "Dictionary of Australian Biography. Biographies of more than 1000 people prominent in the development of Australia; explorers, artists, politicians, scientists, etc. All died before the end of 1942. An online free ebook."

While I agree wholeheartedly that the article needed to rewritten anyway into more modern (and Wikipedia style) language, and ideally use a number of different sources, just wondering if you can clarify whether you know anything further about the legitimacy of copying from that site?

First of all, kindly accept my apologies for the delay in responding. I was in two minds about your proposal. While the Australian Infobox looks sleeker, the one I am using is more versatile, in the sense that it can be adjusted to various requirements. It would be great if you could help in getting an Infobox for the Lok Sabha constituencies. I have laid down my needs in the Infobox alongside. What was this about?[edit]

Can you explain this edit?—Kww(talk) 04:30, 14 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Opera browser (limited) and rollback; Accidentally click and it reverts without me realising it. Would have noticed after a while. Regards (Crusoe8181 (talk) 04:48, 14 March 2011 (UTC)).[reply]

IPAc-en conversion[edit]

Hi Crusoe8181. Regarding this edit, do you have a concern about the change in template or was there some other problem? -- Mattinbgn (talk) 01:54, 24 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Bugger! see my comment above after previous complaint re rollback! Cheers Crusoe8181 (talk) 01:59, 24 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Curious[edit]

Hi Crusoe8181! :)

I know you reverted your own edit, but what was this [4] about? Was there a problem with the information? ...I'm just wondering. Thank You -- MelbourneStar☆ (talk to me) 09:02, 2 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, bugger yet again!!, read my last 2 messages above, at least I caught this one. Cheers (Crusoe8181 (talk) 09:04, 2 April 2011 (UTC)).[reply]
Oh Right! Don't worry :) ...I usually edit from my Ipod and I try press "diffs" on my watchlist ...But instead I press "Revert" accidentally...then I realise what I have done.

Nigeria coordinates[edit]

Sorry my bot hasn't been very good at matching Nigerian names to places recently. I've added Nigeria (region code NG) to the list of regions it won't geocode automatically, along with Poland, Canada and Japan. Would you like to to unpick its recent additions? -- The Anome (talk) 20:41, 3 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Update: I've just rolled back all the recent auto-generated LGA and city/town/village Anomebot geotag edits where the bot's edit has remained unaltered within the article, and replaced the geotag with an appropriate {{coord missing}} tag. -- The Anome (talk) 23:11, 3 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Strange Hatnote[edit]

Was this a mistake? I don't see how a station with the parenthetical "LIRR station" would be confused with a future station across the world. Perhaps you were looking for Lynbrook (disambiguation)? Acps110 (talkcontribs) 04:33, 13 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Please clean up when altering redirect[edit]

Hi, regarding this edit - the result of that was that many pages which linked to Thornbury railway station now pointed to the station in Melbourne instead of the intended one in Gloucestershire. I have cleaned up after you (luckily the three templates covered most of the approx. 100 broken links), and also added a hatnote to the Melbourne station for those who in future may end up on the wrong article. --Redrose64 (talk) 12:26, 13 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks, meant to move the Melb. article which failed to happen. Late at night where I am but a quick kick in the bum usually works when I manage to stuff something up! Regards (Crusoe8181 (talk) 12:39, 13 April 2011 (UTC)).[reply]

Hi again; re this change - it's left a redlink because the {{s-rail-national}} template is expecting the article to be named Rushall, West Midlands railway station, but you moved Rushall railway station to Rushall railway station, West Midlands. To get {{s-rail-national}} to work, the |previous=Rushall should have been left alone; a |county1=West Midlands should have been added; and the page move should have been to Rushall (West Midlands) railway station. Please also see Wikipedia:Naming conventions (UK stations) which admittedly doesn't cover this situation adequately. Thanks. --Redrose64 (talk) 13:23, 27 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I noticed I had created one redlink, was going to have another try to sort it out today. I am a bit bemused by the naming- I rename one using a bracket dab and it is changed by someone else to a comma dab, so I name Rushall as above with a comma dab and it is changed to a bracket dab! Seems to be about 3 diff conventions. What I am doing is removing the previous defacto compulsory dabs from Australian railway stations which leaves the situation where there are a number of clear primary topic aricles (major Melbourne stations versus long-closed English) where the wrong article has the dab in title. Possibly, a couple more to go- How about I ask you before moving an article?? Regards (Crusoe8181 (talk) 04:54, 28 April 2011 (UTC)).[reply]

Was there any particular reason you reverted my edit on Patricio de la Escosura? I simply added his birth information and wiki linked playwright. 66.61.93.235 (talk) 18:35, 13 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Are you using a shared IP address?? Other edits from your address have been clearly vandalism so I reverted the lot and may caught a valid edit. Regards (Crusoe8181 (talk) 04:17, 14 April 2011 (UTC)).[reply]
No, I actually had committed vandalism briefly earlier as an example to a roommate of how quickly vandalism will be reverted, which worked great since the bot reverted it in virtually no time at all. Then I made a sort of mistake edit with the first edit you reverted in the Karimnagar and read it backwards and thought the user added the stuff he removed. You kinda managed to catch that one before I realized what I had done. My other edits have been all sorta productive, except the talk page one, that was kinda dumb. 66.61.93.235 (talk) 05:41, 14 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Re: Northern Line, Sydney[edit]

Hi, I don't feel particularly strongly either way, and I can see the nominator's point of view. The trouble we have in Sydney with railway lines is that there is the 'physical line', and the 'service pattern' line, the latter which Cityrail tends to change at a whim. For instance, the Bankstown railway line is physically the section from Sydenham to Birrong, whereas CityRail will market the Bankstown line as from the City Circle, along the Illawarra line to Sydenham, then to Birrong along the Bankstown railway line proper, and then over the Main South between Birrong and Liverpool. On maps now, CityRail use "Western and North Shore lines", should this now have its' own page? Some lines have been split it into 'physical line' pages and 'service pattern' line pages, such as articles: East Hills railway line, Airport railway line, Sydney and Airport and East Hills railway line. Other cities probably are a bit easier, where there is just the Belgrave Line etc and that's it. So whats the answer? Not sure, maybe rename the 'service pattern' pages as xxx line, and keep the ones that refer to the physical line as xxx railway line. I dont think renaming to CityRail Northern Line helps, because if they are going to be changed to what they are referred to in common parlance, no-one refers to them as that. The article about Malayalappuzha needs more clarification specialy the area mentioning about the temple history. There is no authentic source reference and instead of a local storry we need a historical reference and even if we give myths that too should be supporting. Thanks — Preceding unsigned comment added by Shankarr1977 (talkcontribs) 16:51, 22 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Rollback of Sainthal edit[edit]

Dear Crusoe8181,

I saw you quickly reverted my edit of the Sainthal article, just as you have done with User:Ali.naseer110. However, the reason you specified for reverting my constructive edit is minor:

According to Nadeem, "Sainthal is the most developed and educated town in all its touched villages". with Nadeem linking to a dab page!!!

Without even mentioning the excessive use of exclamation marks which often represents anger on the Internet, rollback my edit for a minor reason such as that one is extremely close to abusing of your rollback privileges. Instead of rollbacking a constructive edit of 1,309 characters for a very minor issue, why haven't simply edited the article to remove my mistake? That would have been much more constructive.

Anyhow, I have reverted your edit and will now modify the article to rectify my minor mistake.

Thank you for your understanding,

Sincerely,

Declined CSD[edit]

Hi. Just to let you know I've declined a number of G1 requests to speedy delete user pages. Firstly, the pages were actually in English, and even if the meaning wasn't very sensible, that's not what G1 is for. Also, if users leave a bit of silliness on their pages, as long as it's not offensive or attacking anyone, or violating any other guidelines, I think it would be very rare to delete the page -- Boing! said Zebedee (talk) 11:11, 3 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

PS: I did delete one of them, as it was the user page of a blocked vandal and contained what might be seen as attack material - CSD:G10 -- Boing! said Zebedee (talk) 11:13, 3 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Possesive?[edit]

To stop myself wasting time by reverting what's probably an accurate correction, I figured maybe I should just ask you... and waste your time (sorry). About Your edit to Kurnell, wouldn't Captain Cook be possessive of his landing place? And hence the apostrophe be appropriate? I'm not all that good at grammar (I've probably made several mistakes in this message already), but I'm pretty sure there should be an apostrophe, unless you don't see it as possessive. Anoldtreeok (talk) 09:43, 13 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hello. Of course he should be, however no Australian placenames (in this case Captain Cooks Landing Place Historic Site see here) retain the possessive apostrophe - omission apostrophes remain - often the s has been dropped as well eg Cooper's Creek to Coopers Creek and now Cooper Creek. The only grey area is when we are discussing the history of a place during a past time when it did have an apostrophe; I take the attitude that the current name is preferred unless there is a good reason for it not to be. No waste of time, I can copy/paste this for the next such query, just don't get me going on Girls'/Girls schools (BOTH may be correct). Cheers Crusoe8181 (talk) 10:08, 13 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Fair enough. Minor things can turn into large arguments when it comes to grammar, so I try to avoid it. Just thought I should question it. It has been reverted by someone else in the time being, though. Anoldtreeok (talk) 10:12, 13 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I see you've changed it back, and brought up "a historic". I prefer "an historic" and think it's the correct way, but that one might be debatable (there is a "h" sound in "historic", and it's not "an history". Grammar is stupid.). Anoldtreeok (talk) 22:15, 13 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Beg to differ quite seriously[edit]

Homesteads is crap as a standalone cat - homesteads do not necessarily correlate to a named station When articles identify a located station as a station - it is not the Australian category either - but the West Australian station I dont agree with the pastoral lease cat either but I do not have the time anymore to trundle through and give a reasonable explain to everyone involved. So basically youve made a bad situation worse :) real life has me so I will have to return sometime later to try to revert your mistake, or the other guys - so you are warned I will be back sometime to try to cleanup the situation. SatuSuro 05:20, 21 May 2011 (UTC) Hello, the ones I changed were in categories and also in parent categories so nothing changes except the duplication by removing the parent categories; if the category tree is wrong that is a different matter Regards(Crusoe8181 (talk) 05:46, 21 May 2011 (UTC)).[reply]

Message about maps[edit]

Manna Hill[edit]

Hello, just reverted your edit on this place- official name determines, per edit summary. Not sure of historical references so have left in the article Regards (Crusoe8181 (talk) 11:58, 24 May 2011 (UTC)).

I have just checked the Geoscience Australia sites that you referred me to and came up with the following result for Mannahill which had 34 hits while Manna Hill produced only 18 hits. Mannahill is the named used in old newspapers and nowadays on maps, and it is what is painted on the local hotel and railway station (see the untouched photo). Please give justified answer rather than giving useless uncultured comments like "for the rest of your life you will dedicate yourself to keeping tht timetable up-to-date and telling us why the train was late??"

Simple, nothing wrong with mentioning the trains but we do not include timetables per WP:NOTDIR otherwise we must be changing every day the timetable changes for the rest of our lives and we must be getting up very early in the morning to announce all the late trains on Wikipedia and we must be going to bed very late every evening in case we are missing any trains being slow or forgotten, OR we simply put a link to the railway timetable Regards

He is famous for his bravery, gallantry, high degree of honesty. He served British Indian Police Service and Punjab Police (Pakistan) with iron hands. In the present context of terrorism in Pakistan, old folks still talk about his bravery. The criminals were so terrified by his personality, that he was said to never wear the arms. Principality of Wy[edit]

Hi Crusoe, I want to touch base with you re: my article on the Principality of Wy. As you may have noted, this is my first article and I understand there are issues with it with regards to the amount of information I'd initially listed. I appreciate criticism and am doing my best to improve the page so the information is more in line with the other articles about micronations, which seem acceptable to you as you haven't flagged any of them for deletion. That said, I'm finding the increasingly disparaging comments you're leaving a little disturbing. I've already stated clearly I have had contact with Paul Delprat. As I am an artist my volunteer time is limited, so the first edits I made were to articles associated with artists I'm interested in and have researched for my education in the interest of accuracy. Whilst making these edits I noticed the larger article on micronations and the fact that there wasn't one for the Principality of Wy, which is, in my humble opinion, at least as notable as the Principality of Hutt River or the Principality of Atlantium; I therefore wanted to make a contribution. I appreciate that notability is subjective, but I would argue the case that with the amount of media coverage and the fairly substantial interest in the Hetalia: Axis Powers character of the same name there is fair enough reason to have an article devoted to the principality. Really all I'm asking here is that you might consider easing back on the amount of sniping in the deletion talk page. I've tried to improve the information available on Wikipedia in good faith and I feel as though I'm being unfairly targeted for it. I really don't think there's any reason for it, especially as neither of us will make the final decision about whether the page deserves deletion, merging or otherwise. Purpleorb (talk) 02:49, 29 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I have been concerned about the tone of your comments at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Principality of Wy. In particular, if as you seem to agree, this comment has "absolutely nothing whatsoever" to do with the deletion discussion, then you should not have posted it there. Sergeant Cribb (talk) 21:28, 30 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Please do not add personally identifying data of this nature to Wikipedia articles, unless it is much more strongly referenced. --Dweller (talk) 10:39, 1 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

It is quite clearly referenced by the link provided; If the entity named in the title of the article exists then it must exist as a specified place on the planet and we must tell our readers (to the best of our ability) where the said entity exists, and given the entity is quite small (700 sq.m approx) then we need to be very specific about the locality of the entity so they are not misled, otherwise we are failing in our aim to be encyclopedic and permitting a load of airy-fairy crap to be perpetuated Regards (Crusoe8181 (talk) 10:52, 1 June 2011 (UTC)).[reply]
The address you provided was not rigorously substantiated. This is a BLP issue and requires the highest standards of referencing. --Dweller (talk) 11:10, 1 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
For a start, the perpetrators of the article are on a self-promotional journey, they want the 700 sq.m approx property in Mosman to be promoted. So, the area of the alleged Principality MUST have geocoordinates to give it any legitimacy whatsoever. The alleged Principality is not a person, living or otherwise, it is a place with an address which has been described by the perpetrators of the article as something else; if the people (living or otherwise) resident there take any exception to the address being added to the article they may apply for the article to be deleted as an an invasion of privacy and I, for one, would welcome such a deletion. (Crusoe8181 (talk) 11:26, 1 June 2011 (UTC)).[reply]

Block warning[edit]

Bottom line: you're making work for administrators at this point. It is a trivial matter in itself with respect to which you do make good arguments, but continuing to aggressively post information that has been suppressed twice will lead to a block. If you think we are wrong please follow the steps in Wikipedia:Dispute resolution, avoiding, of course, posting personal information about any living persons home address. User:Fred Bauder Talk 12:13, 1 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

You publish my home address I would be VERY unhappy, presumably you would feel the same if I published yours; however we are talking about the Principality of Wy whose residents choose self-promotion, whose alleged Principality of 700 sq m is bounded by the boundaries of the street address I posted, and which posting has not generated any complaint from the one editor responsible for perpetrating upon us the said article. I repeat, if the article is to remain then the readership of Wikipedia is entitled to know where it is, lest we become a joke repository of suburban fantasies. Back to the sensible part of Wikipedia after this- Regards (Crusoe8181 (talk) 12:33, 1 June 2011 (UTC)).[reply]
(ec)This whole thing is nonsense from start to finish and Crusoe8181 is clearly correct. If this locality is supposedly notable enough for an article then by its nature it is not a private place. As such adding geo-coordinates to the article should not only be allowed but, rather, actively encouraged. There are hundreds of living people's home addresses with geocoordinates in this encyclopedia, where those locations are notable in their own right, and this supposedly notable location should be no different. A small but far from exclusive sample - The Lodge (Australia), The White House , Buckingham Palace etc. There appears to be an attempt here to try and have your cake and eat it too: You simply cannot with a straight face claim the location is notable and simultaneously claim it is a private residence and that privacy should be protected. One of those claims is necessarily false. -- Mattinbgn (talk) 12:35, 1 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Matt, if the address is notable, a reliable source will have published it, and we'll have no issues. --Dweller (talk) 12:58, 1 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
If the location was actually notable, its location would clearly be on the public record. It seems to me to be very hard to stretch Wikipedia's notability guidelines to claim that a location is both notable and its geographic location is not on the public record. Of course, if the location is not notable ... That said, a better solution would be to merge the location article—of dubious notability at best and apparently someone's private residence—to the Paul Delprat article, a clearly notable topic and one that it would be inappropriate to add to geocoordinates to. -- Mattinbgn (talk) 13:10, 1 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Possibly. With my oversight hat on, my chief concern is that us publishing the address based on a poor source is wrong. And the fact that the address gleaned from the poor source is arguable made it suppressable. --Dweller (talk) 15:08, 1 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Your lucky Dweller got here first, if I had seen you doing this again when you have been explicitly warned twice about it I would have blocked you. You need to let it go. I think at the end of the day we feel more or less the same away about this subject, it's terribly silly and nobody on earth recognizes them as a separate nation. They dress up in silly costumes and apply ridiculous titles to themselves. The one thing they have not done is publish their physical address. Unless and until you can show us a reliable source that explicitly states that the Principality of Wy is at a specific address the material cannot be posted in the article. The fact that the it has been repeatedly suppressed should give you some clue as to how serious this aspect is, even if the overall topic is not so serious. Beeblebrox (talk) 22:11, 2 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
