I've noticed one problem while assessing and tagging that bothers me: terrorists and related articles. I've been using a loose system, but I'm not sure what the actual area on terrorist related articles is for Military History.Cromdog 21:16, 18 October 2007 (UTC)

Anti sub net rating

I wouldn't actually mind a B rating. Just about 90 percent of the info came from the plaque pictured and the rest came from a now deleted webpage but that info could easily be found elsewhere. Anyway. [email protected]. (talk) 00:48, 30 January 2008 (UTC)

There probably is a book out there but I wouldn't know where to look, with the websites and photos as refs, the information can instantly be seen and there is no need to go and look up a book, if I looked further I could probably find something. There might even be a reference in the Attack on Sydney Harbour article that might cover this article as well.

SIGINT

I'd appreciate your suggestions about improving the article, since you described some weaknesses in the rating.

From my perspective, there is an introduction that speaks of SIGINT as an intelligence collection discipline, and identifies the major sub-disciplines such as COMINT and ELINT.

There are images of a Wullenweber array, electronic order of battle, and a spectrum analyzer image (which may be broken, and, if so, I'll create a line drawing that specifically shows some of the things one looks for with a SIGINT spectrum analyzer. The incidental radiation tends to drift more into radiofrequency MASINT than SIGINT, which I think I have adequately linked.

Sorry...I assume you are referring to the Lists of ship commissionings? I am simply removing the entries that do not belong on the lists...it was cumbersome to rewrite the same note each time, I apologize. Ship commissionings are for military vessels, not ferrys and cruise ships.Cromdog (talk) 22:21, 7 February 2008 (UTC)

I wouldn't mind knowing how those lists aren't for commercial vessels? I don't recall reading anywhere that those lists are meant exclusively for military vessels. While I do admit that "commission" is a military term, myself and many other users have been adding commercial ships to those lists, on the presumption they cover all ships - seeing all our work go to waste os a shame. And creating separate lists for commercial ships for essentially the same purpose (which would be indicated as such lists would be needed) seems highly redundant. -- Kjet (talk · contribs) 23:40, 7 February 2008 (UTC)

Commissioned means assigned to active military duty. There is already a seperate list for ships launched. I fail to see how non-military ships would quailify for a commissioning, unless impressed into service during wartime. You say several of you disagree, though?Cromdog (talk) 23:42, 7 February 2008 (UTC)

The thing is that the term "launch" refers to the launch of a ship from the shipway or drydock, whereas people have been treating the "commissioned" field as meaning "entered service" - usually these two dates are several years apart. Plus when an already complete ship changes hands, you can't put it down under "launched" again. I'm not sure if several of "us" disagree, only that several people have been treating the lists differently. What should probably be done is taking this up at WP:SHIPS, where we could hopefully hammer out some kind of a concensus (possibly the creation of a new series of lists for commercial ships or renaming of the current lists to use less militaristic terminology - or doing nothing). In any case, since both the military and civilian ships fall under the mandate of WP:SHIPS, they (we) should definately be involved. -- Kjet (talk · contribs) 00:11, 8 February 2008 (UTC)

I agree that a consensus, or at least a discussion, is a good idea. WP:SHIPS and WP:MILHIST (my project) should probably both be informed. James Graham (soldier)

Hi. I see you have assessed the above article for the military history taskforce. Thanks for that; I started it a couple of days ago and it's good to see it brought into the fold already, as it were. I'm not very familiar with the assessment process, so please forgive me if I ask a few basic questions. You've assessed it as needing attention in a number of areas, including coverage, which makes sense since the article only really covers the Hougoumont incident. However, I was surprised at the "attention to referencing and citation", since I tried to ensure all facts were cited, and made use of wide sources (3 books, 7 online sources). I am now unsure what "attention" I should be paying. Any pointers would be helpful. Ditto for the "supporting materials". Does that refer to pictures etc? I did come across a portrait of him, and there's the famous Robert Gibb painting, but they won't be free (I assume). I will add a picture of Hougoumont, though. Lastly, it's listed as "French", when he was a British soldier; is it then customary for all Napoleonic articles to be part of the French task force as well? Thanks for your help. 102nd Rescue Squadron

I don't know whether it's a copyvio or not; what happened was I moved it from the 106th Rescue Wing article as it seemed from reading outside websites that the NYANG associates that aero company's lineage with the squadron rather than the wing.
