TWO coincidences

[edit]

Hello, CloudNine. I've only recently started educating myself on Wikipedia's policies on copyright violations and was in the process of tagging The Naked Carmen (an article I remembered from four months ago) for speedy deletion when I found myself in an edit conflict. I'm glad I did. This would have been my first time to use the tag, and I was hesitant to use it. Your turning the article into a stub is a much better solution than mine would have been. That's coincidence number one.

Coincidence number two: Less than two hours before that, my nephew had insisted on reading aloud to me the first chapter of a book he'd gotten for Christmas, John Mendelssohn's Gigantic: The Story of Frank Black & The Pixies. After the edit conflict, I went to your user page to see who this classy editor on the Naked Carmen article was. Imagine my delighted surprise at having Frank Black invoked twice on the same day. And from two entirely different directions. (Teenager of the Year is an all-time favorite.)

(BTW, Mendelssohn recommends two websites, both of which you probably already know: "Jean-Michel Biel's and Christophe Gourraud's superb Alec Eiffel" and "Frank Black Net".)

Two such striking coincidences, I had to write. Have a great 2007. ForDorothy 21:17, 26 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Wow :) If your nephew is interested in more Pixies (and Frank Black-related books), I can highly recommend Fool the World: The Oral History of a Band Called Pixies (ISBN 0-7535-1023-5) and Doolittle 33 1/3 (ISBN 0-8264-1774-4). I agree, both sites are great resources. Thanks for posting, it made an interesting read :) CloudNine 21:13, 27 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I made the redirect to the friends page. Sorry about that! --Адам12901 Talk 21:25, 6 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

SP for FA

[edit]

In the next few days I'm going to hunker down and do some last-minute tweaks on The Smashing Pumpkins before I submit it for FAC. In the the meanwhile, I would much appreciae your help if you provided any feedback or help you can. Tag uncited facts, tweak fair use rationales on media, fix typos or grammar errors, leave concerns to consider on the talk page, and so forth. Hopefully within a week I can finally submit the page as a featured article candidate.

Another topic: wanting to expand the range of WP:ALM GAs I want to bring an alternative album up to GA status. I know Yankee Hotel Foxtrot is a current candidate, but right now we don't have any album GAs (in contrast, we have three song GAs, one genre, and a bunch of band and musician pages). I'd like to know if you would like to collaborate on an album page. I saw you are working on Doolittle right now, but I think we can find another album page to work on that may be being neglected right now. All I know for sure is I don't want to work on a Nirvana page just yet; I spent four days of intensive writing and researching to make "Smells Like Teen Spirit" a GA and thus I've been kind of burnt out on reading and writing about the band for a bit. I don't know, an R.E.M., Husker Du, Cure album, whatever. Something major for the alt-rock genre that a lot of people have written about reference-wise but that might require a better Wiki article to match. WesleyDodds 14:00, 7 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Zen Arcade then, for I love Husker Du yet I've only heard Daydream Nation once, as background music. I bought Goo instead. I'll start formatting the article. WesleyDodds 12:17, 9 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I've added some more bits to Zen Arcade. I'll try to focus more on the music section for now. As for The Smashing Pumpkins, I think the main issue right now is the "Breakup" section. Can you style it like the one in the Pixies article? WesleyDodds 12:12, 19 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
The section titled "post-breakup". We could never get it to flow right. WesleyDodds 13:40, 20 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Friends/Rewrite

[edit]

Hi CloudNine. I noticed that you recently created the page Friends/Rewrite. Such pages are acceptable on Wikipedia in the user space, but not the article space. Thus, I've moved the page to User:CloudNine/Friends Rewrite. Many editors also create a "sandbox" in their user space that they use for such projects (e.g. User:CloudNine/Sandbox). Happy editing! · j e r s y k o talk · 23:52, 13 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I'm incredibly offended. You do not own the article. The prose are weak in areas, and I'm offering to help. If I made errors, please work with me to fix them. I'm only here beacuse I would like to support the nomination, and I think you have done a great job which just needs tweaking to bring it over the line. + Ceoil 23:14, 20 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I changed the ref templates to bring them in line with WP:CITE. The preferred format is eg.
  • "Plunkett, John. "Sorrell accuses Murdoch of panic buying", The Guardian, 2005-10-27. Retrieved on 2005-10-27."
You had the first name before the surname, and had consolidated the author and publication in some instances. + Ceoil 23:23, 20 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Your right, the revert was no a big deal, especially as you notified me straight away. This kind of thing happens 'last thing at night', and there is no bad feeling on my behalf. I apologise if I 'jumped' too hard. You have written a great article, one that deserves to be promoted. I'm delighted the band will now (hopefully) have two FA's! + Ceoil 18:54, 21 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:KimDeal.jpg. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the image description page and edit it to add {{Replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use image by finding a freely licensed image of its subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or a similar) image under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that any fair use images which are replaceable by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. ˉˉanetode╦╩ 08:15, 25 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

A FA on them is pretty good! :D I don't think I'm using this talk page correctly. Am I meant to just chat on here? *-) And I'm using a lot of smilies. Do they have smilies on Wikipedia? :) I don't think they do :( One last question! How do I get a user page with all the funny headings, and side bits, and pictures? :) Cya, almost definitely soon :) Gothic-Icy-Babe-Princess 15:09, 27 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

And expanding and adding details to articles on Robin Hood (BBC 2006), Dr Who, Friends and I'm going to search for Waterloo Road in a minute, will add detail or create article on it. :D Cya x Gothic-Icy-Babe-Princess 15:28, 27 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned fair use image (Image:KimDeal.jpg)

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:KimDeal.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable under fair use (see our fair use policy).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Thank you for contributing to Wikipedia, CloudNine! However, your edit here was reverted by an automated bot that attempts to remove spam from Wikipedia. Hello WikiProject Alternative music member.
WikiProject Alternative music, in my eyes, has proved to be successful "improving the encyclopaedic coverage of articles relating to alternative rock", and improving their quality as well. One specific example I have witnessed is The Smashing Pumpkins article. The page has gone from a mediocre work, to GA status, to FA nomination. Only appropriate, as the Pumpkins are undeniably one of the most influential alternative rock bands on the 1990's and beyond.
This is the stuff I wish to achieve with the somewhat recently ressurected WikiProject Rock music. I hope to also attract attention to rock music articles of all sorts, and hopefully change some to GA or FA status. I invite you to come join us, and not only be a member of alternative Wikipedians, but the rockin' ones as well.
Rock on.

I have added a "{{prod}}" template to the article Yudell Luke, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but I don't believe it satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and I've explained why in the deletion notice (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may contest the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page. Also, please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. Jreferee 19:56, 1 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
