Your comments[edit]

I get the impression you didn't like my comments at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Gnostic Movement. I'm not your enemy. I may have voted against your article The Gnostic Movement Incorporated for not meeting certain Wikipedia criteria, but I'm also the one person who spent several hours today trying to keep the Afd process alive, get you notified and prevent another editor from railroading the article into oblivion. Frequently an article that fails one or more Wikipedia requirements can be cleaned up during the time of an AfD. Sadly I was unsuccessful, although I continued to work (unsuccessfully) with an admin on the issue even after the deletion. See Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/The Gnostic Movement Incorporated for a record of some of this.

I should add that this was several hours of time I really didn't have today. I'm not asking you to like or respect me but I thought you should know the story--A. B. 03:03, 21 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Some observations:
  • Copyright issues trump everything around Wikipedia since copyright violations can rapidly get Wikipedia in very hot water. The thinking seems to be "when in doubt, delete" if there's a copyright violation.
  • There's still an element of due process for many copyright violations. I do not think the right rules were applied to your article's speedy deletion and I am not sure about the true motivation for deleting the article.
  • When in doubt, start with a "stub" -- just one or two sentences, but keep it neutral, cite a credible source and prove notability. Notability is critical and the primary reason I voted to delete; neutrality, etc raise red flags but can be edited away -- if a subject isn't notable, then it can't stay. Something like an article in a neutral 3rd party newspaper, etc.
  • Gnosticism-related articles are very controversial from what I can tell. I thought that the admin who deleted your article and to whom I protested the decision was actually a very thoughtful person. You might get some coaching from him. It seems like maybe there should be one main article covering the Samael Aun Weor-related groups before the individual schools are covered with separate articles. Anyway, I am so fed up with modern gnosticism on Wikipedia (don't take this personally) that I'm not sure I can give good advice. I just sort of volunteered to help with one AfD and ended up in pitched battles in it and 2 others. I felt like I was wearing a blue UN helmet and carrying a walkie-talkie when the other sides had tanks. The rest of Wikipedia is not like that.
Anyway, good luck.--A. B. 02:20, 25 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I forgot you were automatically on my watch list from an earlier message I left on your talk page. I saw the helpful links you were adding for yourself.

I did something like that for myself -- feel free to take whatever you want if it will save you some time: User:A. B./Useful Wikipedia links
