Question

[edit]

I've uploaded 6 pictures of dead football players and 2 baseball, you know of any others?--Giants27 T/C 03:14, 2 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

That just made my night. Pats1 T/C 03:18, 2 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
How about you, do you know of any others? :-)--Giants27 T/C 03:37, 2 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Babe Ruth. Pats1 T/C 13:47, 2 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
But seriously, Marquise Hill, Jonathan Goddard, Darrent Williams, Damien Nash, Sean Taylor, and Derrick Thomas come to mind. Darryl Kile and Cory Lidle in baseball. But, that's probably the 6/2 you have. Pats1 T/C 19:14, 2 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Quite a few very old ones can be found through http://flickr.com/photos/library_of_congress/ if you can figure out who they are. DoubleBlue (talk) 19:19, 2 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I've uploaded Hill, Thomas, Kile and Lidle yesterday and Taylor and Williams already had pics.--Giants27 T/C 19:59, 2 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I added a Johnathan Goddard pic a long time ago.►Chris NelsonHolla! 20:00, 2 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Commas

[edit]

Hi. I saw that you reverted my edit at the Dan Orlovsky page. I added a comma in, and you took it out. I am not sure if you are aware ... but years require a comma both before and after. This statement is found in the Wikipedia article on comma ... in the section for "Uses" and the sub-section called "In dates". It says there: When a date is written as a month followed by a day followed by a year, a comma separates the day from the year: December 7, 1941. This style is common in American English. Additionally, most style manuals, including the Chicago Manual of Style[7] and the AP Stylebook,[8] recommend that the year be treated as a parenthetical, requiring a second comma after it: "Feb. 14, 1987, was the target date." I just thought that you might be interested to know this. Thanks. If you want, you can reply back to me at my Talk Page. Thank you. (Joseph A. Spadaro (talk) 22:52, 2 March 2009 (UTC))[reply]

Easter eggs

[edit]

Here's my opinion on this. The link should go where the reader expects it to go. The infobox link says College: Illinois, it should go to the university article. The text says he played for the Illinois Fighting Illini, the link should go there (or the football team article would not be unexpected). A extra benefit is that the article now has a direct link to the university he attended that it did not have before. DoubleBlue (talk) 04:29, 4 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The way I figure it, a reader of an NFL player clicking his college is more likely to be looking for more info on his college football team as opposed to general college information.►Chris NelsonHolla! 07:44, 4 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Chris: You are correct sir!--2008Olympianchitchat 19:25, 4 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I don't really disagree but I hate a link that appears to go one place but actually goes somewhere else. Why cannot the text say Illinois Fighting Illini rather than simply Illinois, then. DoubleBlue (talk) 20:43, 4 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Doesn't make sense to do it that way, but why is this section called "Easter eggs"?--Giants27 T/C 22:22, 4 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I don't understand your comment Awesome Giants fan. What doesn't make sense? Easter eggs are hidden treats. One might think the link just goes to a boring article on a school and skip it when it actually goes to the school team's article! DoubleBlue (talk) 22:48, 4 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, I get it but what I meant by my comment is that it's misleading to the reader, they click on the "link" for the University and they get the team page.--Giants27 T/C 23:07, 4 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I opened a discussion at WT:NFL#Naming conventions to see if we can quit naming our articles as if they are about soccer players. I think that at least three editors have spoken out against the way DoubleBlue is naming these articles, yet he persists. Now I have an admin telling me to get a consensus on a talk page. Please come weigh in.--2008Olympianchitchat 00:47, 6 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Morgan Trent

[edit]

I put it in my sandbox, havent you created these articles on NFL draft prospects though, for example David Bruton (American football) and Rashad Johnson, I have seen you created.--Yankees10 22:47, 6 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Yes I have. But if they got deleted, I really couldn't argue it.►Chris NelsonHolla! 23:13, 6 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Player rights held

[edit]

Per this story it's true.--Giants27 T/C 23:13, 7 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I know it's true, but they don't need to be on the templates if the teams don't even have them on reserve lists. O.J. Atogwe, seriously? He's a third-round NFL draft pick and a star safety. He's never played in Canada and he never will. It's just not relevant. if we're talking about a guy who was with a team, like perhaps a Stefan Logan or Cameron Wake, then left for the NFL, that's one thing. But some of those guys have been NFL players from Day 1, and always will be. The fact a CFL team holds their rights should they ever come there is just not relevant.►Chris NelsonHolla! 04:24, 8 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Just read the article, I suggest you do the same. You're completely wrong here and your edits were made under inaccurate interpretations of the article. This seems to be a fairly common and problematic occurrence these days with you failing to fully read articles...►Chris NelsonHolla! 04:29, 8 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I agree with not having them on the roster. It would obviously get to ridiculous lengths to include everyone who was ever drafted but not yet signed on the roster. Atogwe, for instance, is already listed in the 2004 CFL Draft and 2004 BC Lions season article and that seems quite sufficient. On a related note, I think the whole "deferred" section of these templates should be removed. Their rights may be held for a particular time by a particular team but they are not on the team roster and I think our template should match that. DoubleBlue (talk) 04:49, 8 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Misinterpreted it cause I did read the article and believed that their rights were held by those teams. My bad.--Giants27 T/C 13:17, 8 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Sure, their CFL rights are held by that team but I don't believe that all the players on a team's list should be added to the roster template. It would make for a very long and not useful "roster". It should be noted on the individual player's article but beyond that, it's not of interest. The roster should be a list of people currently signed to play for the team. "Great moments in vandalism history"

[edit]

You, missed one....--Giants27 T/C 01:47, 9 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

What's especially sad is that it stuck there for nearly two weeks... Wikipedia is far too lax about BLPs. Funny instance, though. Enigmamsg 01:58, 9 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, I remember going there to update it since his contract expired and I see this and I was like wtf?--Giants27 T/C 02:04, 9 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
It's always interesting the random pages that get targeted for extensive vandalism.►Chris NelsonHolla! 02:14, 9 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Dan Gore

[edit]

Chris, not sure if you knew this was even AFD'd or not, but I recreated the Dan Gore page that you originally authored. I added several articles that seem to lend notability. I saw it was deleted after just two delete votes on AFD. Just thought I'd let you know. Strikehold (talk) 14:44, 16 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I don't think the article should exist either. He was a non-notable college player, never even attended training camp with a pro team and is now retired. He doesn't meet notability guidelines as far as I'm concerned.►Chris NelsonHolla! 15:30, 16 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
You can prod if you like. I don't feel strongly either way. Strikehold (talk) 15:39, 16 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I feel badly you wasted your time (or at least potentially did). I just wish I had been notified the first time so I could have thrown my two cents in. I have nominated it again, FYI.►Chris NelsonHolla! 15:42, 16 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Earl, Cox, McGarigle

[edit]

Should Glenn Earl, Curome Cox and Tim McGarigle be listed on the Bears roster template since they were invited to mini-camp?--Giants27 T/C 21:19, 16 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Nope, they aren't under contract. Lots of teams let players attend minicamps on a tryout basis, then sign them to a contact if they feel like it. It happens a done after the draft. You have your UDFAs the team signs, but then you also have the even lower tier guys that get to attend the minicamp as a tryout.►Chris NelsonHolla! 23:25, 16 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, that's what I figured but should their bios say the Bears or no?--Giants27 T/C 23:27, 16 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Probably not. What you'd do is if they sign with the Bears later, you could say "Cox originally attended a Bears minicamp on a tryout basis on this date and signed with them on this date." Or if they sign with another team, you could say something like "Cox worked out for the Bears on this date but was not signed. He was later signed by the Jets on this date." And so on. Guys try out for teams all the time, it in itself isn't particularly notable.►Chris NelsonHolla! 23:30, 16 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Okay thanks.--Giants27 T/C 23:37, 16 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Oh and can you check this out? I always seem to miss the most minor things when updating and creating. Thanks.--Giants27 T/C 00:39, 17 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Right, player tryouts are part of what keep directors of pro personnel busy. Pats1 T/C 02:21, 17 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Template:NFLSecondaryColorRaw

[edit]

Your change to Template:NFLSecondaryColorRaw broke the formatting on Carolina Panthers. You forgot the nowiki around the #, which made MediaWiki think it was a list. It's always best to verify your changes to templates right away. If you don't, they're very hard to track down later. Superm401 - Talk 23:14, 24 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I verified the colors changed on the templates at the time, and they did.►Chris NelsonHolla! 00:25, 25 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
If you don't believe me, re-do the change in the sandbox. It causes MediaWiki to see the color code #whatev as a list. And look at this diff. Superm401 - Talk 02:17, 25 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Man did, Syracuse play badly. They probably won't be in Sweet 16 again next year since Flynn's probably leaving and Devendorf's probably going too.--Giants27 T/C 01:37, 28 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I need your help

[edit]

A while ago I worked with you on the Adam Stenavich page and you were a pleasure to work with. I created a page about a well known goalie who has been drafted into the NHL and is now playing in college. Could you please take a look at this page and see if it actually meets the criteria for speedy deletion? The page is Richard Bachman (ice hockey). Thank you once again!keystoneridin! Is he now a pro?►Chris NelsonHolla! 04:35, 28 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Chris,

As of today he is a pro.http://stars.nhl.com/team/app?page=PlayerDetail&playerId=8473614&service=page&tab=crs Click on that link, It will take you to his player profile on the dallas stars page.keystoneridin! (talk) 05:27, 28 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
