Talking to Wikipedians

Besides the Village pump and article-related talk pages, there are other ways to talk to Wikipedians. The English IRC channel is quite popular, regularly reaching up to 300 users. If you care about our policies and general Wikimedia-related matters, you may also want to consider subscribing to one of the mailing lists (high traffic!).

Axel Vervoordt moved to draftspace[edit]

An article you recently created, Axel Vervoordt, does not have enough sources and citations as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page. Managing a conflict of interest[edit]

Information icon Hello, ChrisParker92. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about on Wikipedia, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a conflict of interest may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. We ask that you:

  • avoid editing or creating articles about yourself, your family, friends, colleagues, company, organization or competitors;
  • propose changes on the talk pages of affected articles (you can use the {{request edit}} template);
  • disclose your conflict of interest when discussing affected articles (see Wikipedia:Conflict of interest#How to disclose a COI);
  • avoid linking to your organization's website in other articles (see WP:Spam);
  • do your best to comply with Wikipedia's content policies.

In addition, you are required by the Wikimedia Foundation's terms of use to disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation. See Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure.

Also, editing for the purpose of advertising, publicising, or promoting anyone or anything is not permitted. Thank you. KartikeyaS343 (talk) 16:51, 4 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@KartikeyaS343: I'm not really sure where I'm supposed to reply to this or how to discuss this accusation. I'm a big fan of CNN and I recently read articles about Kayne West's new house and about the Oscars and the fun clothes everyone was wearing. When I went to look up these people on Wikipedia, I couldn't believe they weren't there. I don't work for them or know them in any way (how cool would that be if I did! but I don't)...and I wanted to start writing for Wikipedia to make edits and put up articles for cool people like this. I dont' really understand how they were deleted at first - they both seem really well known and there are so many articles about them! but now I see they are in some draft space. Love to know more about what that means - I clearly stepped on some toes or did something wrong here. I'd love to know if I should be making articles in draft instead (how does that work?) or doing something else. Or not making articles and just editing? I don't have any conflict - just a lot of questions and confusion! Any and all advice welcome! I guess I'll wait to see if you reply here - not sure where else to put this.ChrisParker92 (talk) 09:49, 5 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for the clarification. You may continue working on your drafts Draft:Elizabeth Saltzman and Draft:Axel Vervoordt. When done you can submit your draft for the review. Please check WP:AFC for more details or ask for help at WP:Teahouse. Best, KartikeyaS343 (talk) 15:19, 5 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks @KartikeyaS343: for replying quickly and giving me places to look for more information. Do new articles always need to go through AFC? Or once I know what I'm doing more, I can put them up without that type of check? I can ask this somewhere else if you don't have the time, but I'm trying to get a feel for how things are done here. I'll try to improve those two articles...can't say I understand what they need but I'll work on it. Thanks! ChrisParker92 (talk) 06:37, 8 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hi! If it's worth anything, I'm not sure where the users above got the idea that you were a publicist for the fashion Saltzman. The article as initially created had far more sourcing (to reliable sources, at that) than most. -- Zanimum (talk) 14:54, 1 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]
