Ways to improve List of Seoul National University Alumni[edit]

Hi, I'm Corkythehornetfan. Chloe.snu, thanks for creating List of Seoul National University Alumni!

I've just tagged the page, using our page curation tools, as having some issues to fix. You need to add references to the ones that don't have a Wikipedia article to provide proof that there are alumni. If not, then they will be removed. An example is located here.

The tags can be removed by you or another editor once the issues they mention are addressed. If you have questions, you can leave a comment on my talk page. Or, for more editing help, talk to the volunteers at the Teahouse. Corkythehornetfan (Talk) 05:08, 5 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Good faith but bad result edit on Seoul National University[edit]

Dear User Chloe.SNU,

We spent years adding to the alumni and other sections of Seoul National University. I see the user above you wrote to add references. References are fine. However, you gutted the alumni section, removed the columns, additions, and changed the entire look of the alumni page. Please do not do this. Add references where you like, but, please do not delete the names. Best wishes and take care.Snowfalcon cu (talk) 14:12, 6 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

  • Dear User, it is difficult to disentangle your good edits and your bad ones. Can you please explain below what it is you want to do? Perhaps we users can help you insert these edits in pieces after a thorough discussion. I see that in one edit, you added public service alumni, which is good. This can be used. Re: about the change of alumni section[edit]

Dear User Snowfalcon,

You have unchanged the University's official update of its alumni list. The University decided to change the whole list since the 'notable alumni' section of Seoul National University was a mess. There was a very very long list with no reliable source to select them as 'notable'.

If you have had managed the alumni section so far, we appreciate that. However, it's time to change. The new list is based on the officially selected 'distinguished alumni'.

I hope you well understand this.

Chloe.snu,

Hello. I moved the article to 'List of Seoul National University people' to look like others on Wikipedia, and so others can add faculty to the list as well. When a list gets to long, it needs its own separate page, like this one. I have listed some articles below to look at. Also, in your response above, it sounds to me like you work, or have some type of affiliation to the University. If so, could tell me what how you are involved with the University. Thanks! • Hello user Chloe.SNU, In the years I have been here, I have never come across a university deciding who is a notable graduate and who is not. The public usually decides that. Now, is that all you want to change on the page? It looks like you come from a public relations office at Seoul National University, is that so? What do you do there? As you may know, there is a slight possibility of conflict of interest. You probably remember last year the controversy that occurred when KAIST decided to directly edit its and Suh Nam-pyo's page. Is there anything else you would like to change on the Seoul National page? Have a great day and take care! Snowfalcon cu (talk) 15:08, 7 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]
  • Hello! How did the university come up with the names? Notable foreign faculty have been removed such as Sem Vermeersch. Lee Ki-baek was also removed, who is a notable scholar in Korean history, but, Kim Dae-jung's wife was added? What system is the university using to decide who is notable and who is not? Snowfalcon cu (talk) 15:13, 7 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Dear user Snowfalcon,

Yes I have affiliation to SNU, and I'm aware of the 'conflict of interest' that Wiki suggest. However, I think the more important is that contents have reliable references. Lee Ki-baek was a notable historian, and as well as Ms. Lee was a notable politician. (I don't know why you especially mentioned Prof. Sem Vermeersch who is yet to say 'notable' in history academia) This kind of argument on 'who's notable' and 'who's not' can go on endless. That's why we need reliable references like the one I used. I think we should put the officially selected alumni on the main page, and separate the list you (or users?) have made into an additional page.
