Hi, I apologize for not explaining further. I'm new at this. I'm his daughter, Deirdre, and he asked me if I could re-write the he's proof reading everything I'm writing and is 75 years and very computer illeterate. And just wrote me a message saying he's very upset about having the info changed back. How can I cite Pete if it's really him re-writing. Or do I cite myself. I also do his web site and am planning to add all this information there as well. Please let me know ASAP, thank you. You can send him an email on the contact page of his website if you'd like

Hi Chekhov61, and thank you for undertaking to rewrite this biography. I hope you're planning to add inline references; otherwise it's likely to be templated for lack thereof. An article on such a prominent living author especially requires evidence for the sources of scholarship. Thanks, 99.168.85.28 (talk) 15:22, 10 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

One of the changes I notice in your rewrite is the complete removal of all quotes by Hamill--is there a rationale for this? In that vein, you don't use edit summaries or otherwise explain your edits..... 99.168.85.28 (talk) 15:28, 10 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I've removed your troubling comment in the article, that all the information was written and approved by Mr. Hamill [1]. Whether you are Mr. Hamill (in which case, I am an admirer), or a family member or friend, WP:COI is a real concern. A subject may use the article talk page to discuss inaccuracies, or delete libelous material, but writing and 'approving' one's own biography falls afoul of neutrality guidelines. I'd suggest you be more forthcoming and use the article talk page. 99.168.85.28 (talk) 19:16, 10 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I think WP:AUTO might be also helpful in explaining difficulties and offering guidelines. Thanks, 99.168.85.28 (talk) 19:53, 10 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Also, the book information added are the years some of his books are published, including his newest book Tabloid City. I just recently added a facebook fan page called pete hamill fan page, and he also has a twitter account that he will use as soon as he get enough followers, he only has two and I'm one of them. His twitter name is petehamillnyc.

Pete Hamill[edit]

Hi - please stop adding large content that is incited about this living person - ask for discussion on the talkpage - there is also a report Wikipedia:Biographies_of_living_persons/Noticeboard#Pete_Hamill at the BLP noticeboard here, please do not replace the disputed content without support from other editors. Talk: Pete Hamill - thanks - Off2riorob (talk) 22:56, 10 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I apologize for not explaining further. I'm new at this. I'm his daughter, Deirdre, and he asked me if I could re-write his page, he's proofreading everything I'm writing and is 75 years and very computer illeterate. He just wrote me a message saying he's very upset about having the info changed back. How can I cite Pete if it's really him doing the re-writing?. Or do I cite myself?. I also do his web site and am planning to add all this information there as well. Please let me know ASAP, thank you. You can send him an email on the contact page of his websiteand he will respond right away, thanks Deirdre And when you get his reply can you please put all that info back in, Ispent 6 hours doing this.

If the information has been printed or published elsewhere, perhaps in interviews with your father, then those sources may be used as references. If you're unsure how to reference then you can add the sources to the talk page and another editor will format them properly. I'm an admirer of your father's writing, and know one of his (book) subjects personally. I'm sure the information you've added is factual, but Wikipedia requires that all information--and this is especially true for biographies of living people--be supported with reliable objective sources. This helps to ensure verifiability and neutrality. Best, 99.168.85.28 (talk) 00:58, 11 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]
A Google search of your father yields numerous articles about him [2]; I'd imagine that some or much of what you've written may be supported by a variety of published sources. Then it occurs to me that you probably have hard copies of newspaper and magazine articles and interviews, in essence, the motherlode. Use these. 99.168.85.28 (talk) 01:06, 11 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Finally, much as it might pain your father to be written about by lesser scribes, autobiographies are strongly discouraged here. And I do hate to say that, because nobody would write it as well as he could, but I'm willing to help. 99.168.85.28 (talk) 01:12, 11 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Ok, well then if you don't want auto biographies then you should remove A Drinking Life, Downtown, Piecework and News is a Verb. He would like to have them in because that's part of his book collection and he has no problem with A drinking Life, if that's a question. Anything in that book is accurate. And his new book Tabloid City is not a Memoir, pure fiction. Some of the information in the current bio is false or not very well written. His life is more than helping subdue Sirhan Sirhan. Some of the columns and interviews of him were not accurate quotes, even by the New York Times.

I (Deirdre) am curious to know who you people are, Please e-mail me at the e-mail address provided from my web sites, one is called quest Imagery. I'd love to discuss more about these questions.

I don't think you understand--the Wikipedia article should not be an autobiography. Of course the bibliography ought to list his memoirs! I agree that the Sirhan business does not belong in the intro. 99.168.85.28 (talk) 02:05, 11 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Is it possible that you can re-write what he wrote and add some accuracies? There is nothing that shows he wrote it or inaccurate. I just thought it would be good for people to know. But, I agree with you, anyone can say they are someone they are not. One of my biggest problems is that I'm way too honest and unfortunatley, I'm not in the majority.

I want you to know that he is extremely upset and sick about the whole thing, he's 75 years old and does not understand any of this.

I'd be honored, but everything has to be sourced, so perhaps we can both work on that. But not this evening--I'll return soon. And please tell him not to be upset--his legacy is assured. Sometimes it takes a while for these articles to be constructed properly. 99.168.85.28 (talk) 02:16, 11 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Ok, can you please e-mail him and tell him that?

Will do. 99.168.85.28 (talk) 02:37, 11 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks, I appreciate it :)

I don't know how to change citation links. If possible can you change it for me? The 1 st one needs to link to the new york post and the New York Daily News. I would appreciate it. All factual and errors i will change for example: list of dates for books, in the bio he was also editor in chief of the New York Daly News.

I just changed the years of books published, I have all of them on my bookshelf, so I added all books with dates and a couple of books that were missing as well as adding that he published 10 novels instead of 8. As you can see he wrote 2 short stories Four books on journalism, two memoirs an two biographies. I didn't put that down but, I think it should be noted. Also can be checked on Amazon.
