October 2014[edit]

Information icon Welcome to Wikipedia. I have noticed that some of your recent genre changes, such as the one you made to Parade (Prince album), have conflicted with our neutral point of view and verifiability policies. While we invite all users to contribute constructively to Wikipedia, we urge all editors to provide reliable sources for edits made. When others disagree, we recommend you seek consensus for certain edits by discussing the matter on the article's talk page. Thank you. Dan56 (talk) 03:28, 14 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I reverted your recent edit to Parade (Prince album). There is no mention of R&B in the review you cited; AllMusic's sidebar is not considered a reliable source (WP:ALBUMS/SOURCE#Sources to avoid). The genres currently listed in the infobox are based on what is cited in the article, specifically its "Music and lyrics" section. Dan56 (talk) 05:41, 15 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Information icon Please refrain from making unconstructive edits to Wikipedia, as you did at Parade (Prince album). Your edits appear to constitute vandalism and have been reverted or removed. If you would like to experiment, please use the sandbox. Administrators have the ability to block users from editing if they repeatedly engage in vandalism. Thank you. Dan56 (talk) 06:38, 16 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Dan56 I hate to bring it to you; but you're the one who's been disruptive; I don't know how you managed to not be blocked for vandalism when that's all you do and pick arguements and fights with people.... Che'Nellefan (talk) 06:40, 16 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I hate to bring it to you, but an online music store's categorization (for database purposes, not even part of the review) is not a reliable source; Mosi Reeves, who wrote the review, is a reliable journalist and critic, but you're not citing his review or his words to support "Soul, R&B". Please cite a professional critique that views the album as such; there's a reason that is the standard and what comprises the article's Music and lyrics section--because "notable individuals holding that interpretation" of the album's music carries weight, and a generic heading at a low-rent MP3 store that reads "Home > Music > Soul/R&B > Contemporary R&B" doesn't carry weight. This is an online encyclopedia, not our personal iTunes library. Please refrain from making POV genre changes without a reliable source or consensus. It is obvious that you've tried to circumvent a possible block for genre warring by editing under this account, as well as under the IP 81.153.185.157. Your contributed article, 808s & Heartbreak (Kanye West album)[edit]

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

Hello, I noticed that you recently created a new page, 808s & Heartbreak (Kanye West album). First, thank you for your contribution; Wikipedia relies solely on the efforts of volunteers such as you. Unfortunately, the page you created covers a topic on which we already have a page – 808s & Heartbreak. Because of the duplication, your article has been tagged for speedy deletion. Please note that this is not a comment on you personally and we hope you will continue helping to improve Wikipedia. If the topic of the article you created is one that interests you, then perhaps you would like to help out at 808s & Heartbreak – you might like to discuss new information at the article's talk page.

If you think the article you created should remain separate, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator, or if you have already done so, you can place a request here. Additionally if you would like to have someone review articles you create before they go live so they are not nominated for deletion shortly after you post them, allow me to suggest the article creation process and using our search feature to find related information we already have in the encyclopedia. Try not to be discouraged. Wikipedia looks forward to your future contributions. AmaryllisGardener talk 20:40, 28 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

D'you know; I can't edit both the one I uploaded and the actual one; the original one no one can edit it; it stems back to a user vandalising the page so I thought don't penalise us and upload the new one that everybody can edit and redirect the non-editable version to my version? Che'Nellefan (talk) 20:49, 28 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

@AmaryllisGardener: "Our apologies: A long-term attack by vandals has forced us to limit editing of this article to experienced editors only. Your changes cannot be saved." Came up when I tried to contest it; can we contest the other one instead? Che'Nellefan (talk) 20:53, 28 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

You can submit an edit request. When you edit the protected article, you should see a blue button that says "Submit an edit request". :) Regards, --AmaryllisGardener talk 20:59, 28 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]
@AmaryllisGardner: that was on the one I just made and when I tried to contest it that error message came up; what's going on? Che'Nellefan (talk) 21:07, 28 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]
An alternative is to fill out the following, then copy and paste it to Talk:808s & Heartbreak:

{{edit protected|808s & Heartbreak|answered=no}} <!-- Begin request --> <!-- End request --> ~~~~

--AmaryllisGardener talk 21:16, 28 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

@AmaryllisGardener: don't worry I have two accounts due to spyware on my computer I had to create both this one and Che'Nelle fan's one; I have contested it via my Rihanna one so all I can say is that we should have to wait and see right...?Rihanna-RiRi-fan (talk) 21:22, 28 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Information icon Hi, and thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. It appears that you tried to give 808's & Heartbreak (Kanye West album) a different title by copying its content and pasting either the same content, or an edited version of it, into another page with a different name. This is known as a "cut-and-paste move", and it is undesirable because it splits the page history, which is legally required for attribution. Instead, the software used by Wikipedia has a feature that allows pages to be moved to a new title together with their edit history.

In most cases, once your account is four days old and has ten edits, you should be able to move an article yourself using the "Move" tab at the top of the page (the tab may be hidden in a dropdown menu for you). This both preserves the page history intact and automatically creates a redirect from the old title to the new. If you cannot perform a particular page move yourself this way (e.g. because a page already exists at the target title), please follow the instructions at requested moves to have it moved by someone else. Also, if there are any other pages that you moved by copying and pasting, even if it was a long time ago, please list them at Wikipedia:Cut-and-paste-move repair holding pen. Thank you. -- Calidum 20:42, 29 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

@Calidum: yeah I've done all that and still can't edit it; can some one redirect the 808s & Heartbreak to the one I've created; everyone's able to edit the one I've made but no one can edit that one Che'Nellefan (talk) 21:15, 29 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Che'Nellefan, I am Diannaa and I am an administrator on this wiki. There's no obvious reason why you are unable to edit 808s & Heartbreak; the page is not protected in any way. Regardless, creating a duplicate article is not the solution. Please don't do that any more. -- Diannaa (talk) 23:44, 29 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Diannaa this message popped up when I edited it "An automated filter has identified this edit as potentially unconstructive, and it has been disallowed. If this edit is constructive, please report this error." it always pops up, I tired it on my Rihanna-RiRi-fan account as that's older (I have two accounts due to spyware problems) and it popped up with the same error message; is there a way we could revert my page and re-direct the faulty 808s page to the one I created as it doesn't get the same issues I've had with the original one that MariaJaydHicky vandalized to ****? Che'Nellefan (talk) 11:33, 30 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]
No, we can't do that, because there's nothing wrong with the page; it's not faulty at all. Rather, there must be something wrong with your edit. Perhaps it contains a link to a blacklisted website. -- Diannaa (talk) 17:10, 30 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Diannaa this came up when I tried to edit it "Our apologies: A long-term attack by vandals has forced us to limit editing of this article to experienced editors only. Your changes cannot be saved." Any ideas? Che'Nellefan (talk) 18:15, 30 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]
This is the message you may have seen before 20:22, 25 November 2014, when the protection expired. The article is no longer semi-protected, so you should not be seeing this message. Try clearing your cache. Or you could post your suggested edits on the article talk page, and someone else can enter them into the article for you. -- Diannaa (talk) 19:58, 30 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I still get the message; Diannaa how do I clean my cache; I think the amount of Spyware that I've got it might try and stop me? Che'Nellefan (talk) 21:14, 30 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]
  • What browser do you have. Clearing your cache can differ per browser.-Serialjoepsycho- (talk) 23:36, 30 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hotter than July[edit]

There's no need to make a disambiguation page just because "there are two articles with the same name". If one article is much more likely than the other to be what readers are looking for, then it is appropriately at the base name, with a hatnote to the other one - see WP:PRIMARYTOPIC. In the last 90 days the album was read 14,259 times and the festival 547 times (figures from this pageview counter. I have put in a Requested Move to get the album moved back to the base name- see Talk:Hotter than July (album).

I also note that when you created a disambiguation page at Hotter than July you failed to clear up the incoming links, so that 100+ links which previously pointed to the album were left pointing to the disambiguation page: if you create a dab page like that it's your job to clean up afterwards, as is pointed out in the message which comes up on your screen when you make the move. Please take care not to damage the encyclopedia.

And if you're creating a dab page, please follow WP:MOSDAB:

  1. use bold for the term being disambiguated
  2. only one blue link per entry
  3. add the {{dab}} or {{disambiguation}} template

This one got labelled as a {{stub}} by a bot (because it didn't have the "disambiguation" template), which is how I came across the whole thing while stub-sorting. As a disambiguation page it should have looked like this: I cleaned it up before realising the wider problem. PamD 13:34, 3 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]
