A tag has been placed on Cerebra for brain injured children, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article seems to be blatant advertising that only promotes a company, product, group, service or person and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become an encyclopedia article. - Agreed. We also need reliable sources independent of the organization. Maybe some news coverage? While I do not question information from the organizations website in and of itself, its use as the only sourcing for the article doesn't work with our neutral point of view policy. The article must be written from a neutral point of view, and - as Jasynnash notes - this really isn't. Please let one of us know if we can be of assistance. - As you've seen, I removed much of the promotional information from the article. It's a notable agency, and I've added references that document this, so the article need not be deleted - that's why I went ahead and made the changes. Everything I removed, though, can be added back in if a) we have an independent source that discusses it - like a news article, or b) it's included as an expansion of the description of the organization. Much of the article was "We provide grants" and "contact us" and similar language, which - if kept - would result in the article being deleted as advertising. I thought it prudent to keep the article (or some of it) and then expand with sources. Again, please let me know if I can help with any of this. - Unfortunately I had been writing to those ends myself. I had made considerable edits to those ends, which were then completely lost and not backed up. I have now made a couple of extra edits. The reference to a bbc article that you added had no reference to Cerebra or the work they do, can you explain this? --CerebraIT (talk) 13:06, 13 May 2008 (UTC)
- Absolutely. The BBC article referred specifically to a grant of "£104,000 to the university to study eye movement abnormalities in children with a variety of neurometabolic diseases." The fact that the organization - and its grant - were notable enough to receive coverage from the BBC - an independent, reliable source - is a reason that the article should not be deleted. The other article discussed the charity's involvement in a high-profile charity event with top-level professional racecar drivers, which also goes to notability. If a subject is not notable, then its article is deleted quite rapidly. My intent was to prevent this. The concern is that, while extensive, the information you're adding to the article is written as if the organization - or its representative - were describing the organization in a press release or similar forum. Wikipedia articles have to be neutral in tone; the result is that this article is tagged as advertising. If we can make the article more neutral - which I attempted to do - then the article can be kept. Otherwise, it is likely that an administrator will delete it.
