You sound like an expert on viruses and I really appreciate you joining us. My purpose is to keep this Ebola article disease rather than virus oriented. Yes true the disease is referred to as "Ebola hemorrhagic fever" and virus as Ebola virus. As an example we have an article on hepatitis B that also works on distinguishing between disease/virus issues. What has been agreed upon is the main article shall be about the disease and that if the section specifically on the virus becomes to large it shall be split off into its own article named in this case hepatitis B virus. I propose the same here. Most people are more interested in the disease aspects rather than the atomic structure say of the viral proteins. WP:MEDMOS gives an outline for article structure. Thank you for your work on improving Wikipedia's coverage of the Ebolavirus. Though I am currently a cardiothoracic surgeon by profession, I also hold a PhD in virology, and, in fact did some research on the Mayinga ZEBOV delta-peptide. Quick Question

When I was doing research in the field, we used the abbreviations ZEBOV (Zaire) REBOV (Reston) SEBOV (Sudan). Of course, when I was working, CIEBOV and the Bundibugyo strain had yet to be isolated. One the articles you've written, you use abbreviations that I've never seen before. (Like SUDV) Are these new or are they a European or other system? Ronk01 talk 21:24, 19 September 2011 (UTC)
I've noticed that the link to Ebola Virus (which now apparently refers to what used to be called Ebola Zaire) redirects to the page describing the general Ebola virus disease page. Does a page specifically for the Ebola virus need to be created? I would do it myself, but I've been out of the field far too long to do any kind of taxonomic writing, especially in light of my non-knowledge of recent changes in taxonomy. Issues on the Ebola HF article

I was looking at the recent changes you made to the Diagnosis section of the Ebola HF article, and I noticed a few issues, namely the rather technical content of the section (remember, we're writing for a lay audience, I can understand what you've written as I'm a former specialist, but most readers probably can't). I also noticed that you included cell culture as a diagnostic option. I'mnot sure how much experience you've had with filoviruses clinically, but I can assure you that in the neither the time or resources are available in all but the smallest outbreaks (excepting initial samples sent to the CDC for serotyping). Perhaps a note of this should be made in the article? Most of the time, we just used rapid assays to diagnose filovirus HF (the available tests weren't accurate enough to differentiate ebolaviruses from marburgviruses back then (in the late 80's and early 90's) Ronk01 talk 14:11, 12 October 2011 (UTC)
