Information icon Hello. I wanted to let you know that in your recent contributions to Diane Holland, you seemed to act as if you were the owner of the page. Hello, I saw your message that you left on my talk page regarding my edits to Diane Holland’s page. I appreciate what you said completely, but I just wanted to know if there’s any other way I can reference myself as a source because Diane is a distant family member of mine and I have spent quite a few years now researching her and talking to people that knew her, and I just wanted my efforts to be recognised. Before I began editing her page it was literally one paragraph so I have contributed at least 75% of the material on there. Many thanks. — Preceding unsigned comment added by CatherinaDiane (talkcontribs) 14:27, 5 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hi again. Thanks for your message; I've moved your reply over here to make things easier to read. It's great that you've taken the time to improve this particular article, but the short answer is no, you can't reference yourself as a source. I recommend you have a read of these two Wikipedia policies - Wikipedia:Ownership of content and Wikipedia:No original research - as a bit of a starting point to understand why we don't allow this. Your contributions to this (and any other article) are valued and represented in the article's history, but shouldn't be listed on the article itself. If you have specific questions about those policies, or how to contribute to Wikipedia more generally, you can visit the Wikipedia:Teahouse for some assistance. — Manticore 00:35, 6 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Information icon Please do not add original research or novel syntheses of published material to articles as you apparently did to Diane Holland. Please cite a reliable source for all of your contributions. Thank you. Adakiko (talk) 08:55, 28 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

BTW: Several sources use "Di-an-haa" https://www.howtopronounce.com/diana-m-holland Adakiko (talk) 08:55, 28 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Two of the three recordings use "Di-anne", one, with a very strong French accent uses "Di-onn". Is Diane Holland French? Please don't cherry-pick sources. Thank you Adakiko (talk) 09:14, 28 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
She is Dutch which is pronounced the same way as the French way. CatherinaDiane (talk) 10:23, 28 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I also have multiple video sources of people who knew her first hand pronouncing it as De-ahn. CatherinaDiane (talk) 10:24, 28 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
In addition I was the one who put the pronunciation in the brackets in the first place - WITHOUT A SOURCE… so it’s bold to now make it seem like I don’t know what I’m talking about CatherinaDiane (talk) 10:25, 28 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Why do you think it's one over the other? Why did you originally add "De-anne" and change it to "De-onn"? If there is no source, it should be removed. Adakiko (talk) 10:33, 28 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Because until a recent television documentary on Channel 5 (in the U.K.) the only source I had was a newspaper article stating that her name was phonetically pronounced ‘De-ann’ however as a result of the television documentary which featured people who knew her first hand talking about her. They all said her name as ‘De-ahhn’ (phonetically). CatherinaDiane (talk) 10:46, 28 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I also have recent YouTube video of the same people again pronouncing her name as ‘De-ahhn’ CatherinaDiane (talk) 10:48, 28 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Use a {{cite AV media}} it has a |time= field. I believe you need to set the units. See wp:YOUTUBE. You may need to make sure it's a wp:RS and not a wp:Selfpublished source. Cheers Adakiko (talk) 11:35, 28 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks I’ve tried to add the source and pronunciation correctly but please help put it in correctly if I’ve done it wrong rather than just changing it back!! CatherinaDiane (talk) 14:43, 28 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Please read wp:No original research? Thank you Adakiko (talk) 09:54, 28 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Diane Holland pronunciation

[edit]

YouTube is wp:blacklisted. See WP:RSPYT and wp:YOUTUBE. This is how the ref would look:

  • {{cite AV media |url= https://youtu.be/9P9y9HI-9UE?t=4258 |title= Hi-De-Hi Reunion - Su Pollard, Ruth Madoc, Jeffrey Holland, Nikki Kelly, David Webb & Linda Regan |author= Keven Durhan |date= 25 November 2020 |publisher= [[YouTube]] |time= 1:10:58 |access-date= 28 March 2022}}
  • The nowiki stuff above is so the YouTube link won't be rejected.
  • I added a archive-url to The Times reference which was 404. You might want to check the other citations to see if they are live. You can plug the urls into https://archive.org to check for archives.
  • Please note that quotes should go on the outside of links. I fixed a few. They may be used inside of wp:piped links. Enclosing in a pair of two single quotes for italics such as here. Use straight, not slanted or curly quote marks: MOS:STRAIGHT.

Got another source? Cheers Adakiko (talk) 20:13, 28 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
