Proposed deletion of James Dodkins[edit]

The article James Dodkins has been proposed for deletion because it appears to have no references. Under Wikipedia policy, this newly created biography of a living person will be deleted unless it has at least one reference to a reliable source that directly supports material in the article.

Proposed deletion of James Dodkins[edit]

The article James Dodkins has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

This person does not appear to meet the WP:GNG or WP:BIO criteria for inclusion here. The only source provided is written by the subject, and in a search I could not find any coverage from independent reliable sources. The article is promotional in tone, but that can be fixed. Failure to meet GNG cannot be fixed. NOTE: The article was previously BLPPRODded, but that tag was removed when the reference was added.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Explanation[edit]

Hello, Business guru! I'm sure you are wondering what is going on here, and why I am suggesting your article should be deleted from Wikipedia. I have removed it from the "proposed deletion" category and instead listed it at "nominations for deletion". That is a process where the Wikipedia community at large will look at your article and decide if it meets Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion. The discussion will be open for at least a week, after which an Administrator will either delete the article or keep it, based on the discussion. You are welcome to participate in that discussion yourself, which is here: Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/James Dodkins, but be sure to base your arguments on Wikipedia policy, especially notability and reliable sources.

Here is the problem: Wikipedia is not just another website; it is an international encyclopedia. As such, it has standards for what kind of subjects can have articles here. The subjects have to be "notable". There is a very specific definition of what makes a subject "notable" enough for an article: the person has to have received significant coverage from independent reliable sources. In the case of James Dodkins, I could not find ANY coverage at all from independent sources; "Independent" sources means sources which are not controlled or supplied by the subject or by interested parties of the subject. That rules out company websites, things written by the subject himself, Facebook, YouTube, private blogs, press releases, and so on. You have added several references to the article, but none of them are independent reliable sources; they are material written by Mr. Dodkins himself or his employer. To qualify for an article here, he has to have been written ABOUT, by reliable third party sources such as newspapers, books, etc. I'm not intending any disparagement of Mr. Dodkins, who I'm sure is a fine man and good in his field. Hello, Business guru1956. We welcome your contributions to Wikipedia, but if you are affiliated with some of the people, places or things you have written about on Wikipedia, you may have a conflict of interest or close connection to the subject.

All editors are required to comply with Wikipedia's neutral point of view content policy. Question[edit]

Hello! I see that you have deleted all the content from the article. Could you explain why? If you mean that you no longer want the article to be in Wikipedia, tell me so, by posting a message here on your talk page, and I will see that it gets deleted without needing to go through the week-long discussion. Or you can delete the pictures from the article too, so that it has no content at all, and that will give us a reason for speedy deletion.
