DYK statistics

Hi. You recently changed the page view count for one of my DYK's that broke 5,000 views. I much prefer that number than the one I posted, but it makes me curious where you got it from. I use this tool to see page views, as shown on the DYK templates. Did you add the day following into the total? Or is there a different way to determine page views? – Muboshgu (talk) 05:05, 15 February 2012 (UTC)

Yes, I added the views from the following day. Your hook come off the Main page at around 00:00 UTC (see Recent additions), and because of the way the stats are collected, the next day's views also count (see Stats rule 1). —Bruce1ee 05:27, 15 February 2012 (UTC)
I see. Thanks for the explanation! – Muboshgu (talk) 16:44, 15 February 2012 (UTC)
So does this mean that Nick Castellanos belongs there too? According to the stats, it had 4,564 + 504 = 5,068, and was added at 00:00 UTC? – Muboshgu (talk) 17:36, 15 February 2012 (UTC)
You're right, it should be there – I've added it. Thanks for pointing that out. —Bruce1ee 05:08, 16 February 2012 (UTC)
Thanks. – Muboshgu (talk) 16:38, 16 February 2012 (UTC)
Hi, on the same note, how did you get the number for Sinan Reis. As far as I can tell, the difference between what was posted and what I added were all from the front page, considering the drop off once it was removed. Thanks for your help, Aslbsl (talk) 02:13, 27 February 2012 (UTC)
Sinan Reis appeared on the Main page on February 23 and dropped off at 00:00 (UTC) on February 24. I added the views on February 23 (6,962) and February 24 (905), the next day (see DYK Stats rule 1), giving 7,867. I hope this helps. —Bruce1ee 05:26, 27 February 2012 (UTC)
Thanks for your reply. I just find it odd that there would be ~500 more hits after it was removed from the main page, and then suddenly drop to only a few hits after that.
It suggests to me that it was still on the main page for the ~500 hits, and that the drop in hits shows when it was actually taken off. I couldn't get precise numbers off of the tool linked on my Talk page. Is there a better way to check? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Aslbsl (talkcontribs) 17:44, 27 February 2012 (UTC)
I'm not sure where you get the additional 500 hits from. If you open this page and click "toggle labels", you'll see the actual view counts for each day. The only other stats tool I know of is Wiki-Watch, but it doesn't show the actual number of views per day. —Bruce1ee 08:12, 28 February 2012 (UTC)
Hi, I meant the difference between the 7,867 you posted and the 8,288 shown when I did, which I thought was justified based on the graph. I didn't think that ~400 (my mistake before) hits would have happened in such a short time after it was removed, but maybe I'm just not reading the data it correctly. Its not important. Thanks for your discussion. Aslbsl (talk) 18:44, 1 March 2012 (UTC)

Hi, could you please add Photo Bits, Am Abend and Albert Kirchner there. Here is details about DYK view. Thanks! --SupernovaExplosion Talk 05:14, 2 March 2012 (UTC)

DYK stat adjustments

I replied to your comment where you mentioned that you removed some background noise from the Anthony Davis (basketball) hook about some other hooks on that list that seem to have news- or anniversary-related noise. It might be buried in that massive and contentious discussion, though. Would you agree that adjustments should be performed on Paul the Octopus, 2010 Moscow Victory Day Parade, Saxbe fix, Todd Palin, and Disappearance of Rebecca Coriam? I might have missed a few, I took a very quick and non-exhaustive look. – Muboshgu (talk) 16:54, 9 April 2012 (UTC)

Thanks for your comments, I've responded at WT:DYK. —Bruce1ee 05:52, 10 April 2012 (UTC)

Third opinion needed

Hello there! I am currently reviewing a DYK nomination located here. The nomination has stalled due to a disagreement over the reliability of this source. I would appreciate it if you could provide a third opinion on the matter. I contacted you because I saw that you are a regular at DYK, and because I have not worked with you before (to the best of my knowledge). It is not my intention to recruit allies to bolster my argument, but merely to find a neutral third party to evaluate the situation. Cheers! --Cryptic C62 · Talk 21:01, 28 May 2012 (UTC)

Sockpuppet

Hi Bruce!

I'm wondering if you can please take a look at this users page and tell me if it reminds you of anyone? To me it's screaming the obvious but I don't know who it would be. To me it's stating the obvious because they're saying Materialscientist blocked them before - when I check the block log it's empty. They're saying that they hate ClueBot NG - when I check the history of the page none of the ClueBot's have been anywhere near that user. You're one of the users mentioned as being an 'arch enemy', just wondered if you had any idea who this is?--5 albert square (talk) 21:50, 11 June 2012 (UTC)

Ah actually it's ok, One of ClueBot's admins worked it out :)--5 albert square (talk) 21:50, 11 June 2012 (UTC)
Yes I saw Sheehan Cein14 (talk · contribs) pop up and suspected it was a sockpuppet of Sheehan Cein (talk · contribs), but I didn't report it because it didn't appear to be vandalising at the time. —Bruce1ee 04:59, 12 June 2012 (UTC)

Ealdwood, C. J. Cherryh

Hi Bruce

I have added the 1991 publication of the same title to the article, I trust without messing up the work you have already done. Have a look & let me know if there is anything you are unhappy about.

Regards

David FLXD (talk) 11:47, 20 June 2012 (UTC)

Hi David, thanks for your updates to Ealdwood and C. J. Cherryh. There is also The Dreaming Tree omnibus (1997) that contains revised editions of The Dreamstone and The Tree of Swords and Jewels, with a new ending. Have a look at Ealdwood Stories. I don't know if the 1991 Ealdwood omnibus you referred to is the same as The Dreaming Tree.
Just one small point about your changes to Ealdwood: this page is about the original novella, and its plot summary should be for the novella, not the omnibus edition. I think Ealdwood Stories should be the page to detail the omnibus editions. —Bruce1ee 12:30, 20 June 2012 (UTC)

Responding:

Having had a bit of a sniff around, it looks like Ealdwood II was the British '91 omnibus combining Dreamstone and Tree, and "The Dreaming Tree" was the same omnibus but published in the US in '97. I understand your point about the page topic as you originally had it, but I have some concern for users who search for "Ealdwood", the identical title, and are actually looking for the book I added. If you are going to have a page titled "Ealdwood" it seems logical to me to include both works of that title. However, having said that, I am not going to insist on having them both on the one page if you feel strongly about it. If you think it would be better, I will move my contribution to the Ealdwood stories article. David FLXD (talk) 18:56, 20 June 2012 (UTC)

Looking up Ealdwood on Cherryh's isfdb page I see that the Ealdwood omnibus is a variant title of Arafel's Saga, which is covered in Ealdwood Stories. I suggest that you move your Ealdwood omnibus contributions to Ealdwood Stories and leave Ealdwood as the original novella. Then, to help readers looking for the Ealdwood omnibus, you can add:
{{About|the original Ealdwood novella|the Ealdwood omnibus|Ealdwood Stories}}
to the very top of the Ealdwood page, which will display like this:
I hope that helps, but if you need any assistance, just shout. —Bruce1ee 06:37, 21 June 2012 (UTC)

Ok I have reverted the Ealdwood article to the original topic, with a pointer to Ealdwood Stories, and reworked Ealdwood stories to try to clarify the different books and titles. I think it will be ok. Let me know!

Speedy deletion converted to PROD: Success capitalist

Hello Bruce1ee. I am just letting you know that I have converted the speedy deletion tag that you placed on Success capitalist to a proposed deletion tag, because I do not believe CSD applies to the page in question. Thank you. JohnCD (talk) 09:06, 10 July 2012 (UTC)

Fair enough, I thought it was advertising a book until I saw the contested deletion. —Bruce1ee 09:20, 10 July 2012 (UTC)
Indeed, I thought the same at first glance, your G11 tag was quite reasonable on the article as it stood. JohnCD (talk) 12:09, 10 July 2012 (UTC)

Credo Reference Update & Survey (your opinion requested)

Credo Reference, who generously donated 400 free Credo 250 research accounts to Wikipedia editors over the past two years, has offered to expand the program to include 100 additional reference resources. Credo wants Wikipedia editors to select which resources they want most. So, we put together a quick survey to do that:

It also asks some basic questions about what you like about the Credo program and what you might want to improve.

At this time only the initial 400 editors have accounts, but even if you do not have an account, you still might want to weigh in on which resources would be most valuable for the community (for example, through WikiProject Resource Exchange).

Also, if you have an account but no longer want to use it, please leave me a note so another editor can take your spot.

If you have any other questions or comments, drop by my talk page or email me at [email protected]. Cheers! Ocaasi t | c 17:10, 11 July 2012 (UTC)

Is it possible to nominate the same article with two DYK or more? I already have a DYK veryfied and approved for Yuderqui Contreras, but I have other two of them on mind, should I submitted? I have asked this question to different editors, none have answered yet, so please answer me before the 5 days windows closes, thanks.

... that 2012 Olympian Yuderqui Contreras have been six times Weightlifter of the Year?

Replaceable fair use File:LindsayCooper.jpg

Thanks for uploading File:LindsayCooper.jpg. I noticed the description page specifies that the media is being used under a claim of fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails the first non-free content criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed media could be found or created that provides substantially the same information or which could be adequately covered with text alone. If you believe this media is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the media description page and edit it to add {{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per the non-free content policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. VernoWhitney (talk) 14:55, 13 September 2012 (UTC)
