Cristian Vogel biog piece
[edit]you moved my article ' Cristian Vogel ' - I have resubmitted an edited version of my biography - there are at least 10 articles referring to my name on the WikiPedia, I have been an active composer on the electronic music scene for over 11 years, so I consider that I should be included in the Wikipedia ( many of the people I have produced, as well as band members from my own bands have articles ! ) - I hope the edited version fits the bill better, I have removed links and references to current projects etc.
thanks
I see my resubmitted article has disappeared again , so here it is - please submit it , if you think its acceptable

Magging
[edit]It wasn't a silly page. Please do not refer to real events as silly, as that is silly within itself. Would you say the article on TPing is silly? Would you delete the article on TPing? would you delete the article on egging? No, and they exist. Magging is similar to those events. Simply because it has not spread to where you reside, does not mean it doesnt happen. Should you delete the article on farsi because you don't speak farsi? of course not. Let the article be.--Jalad.azadi 13:41, 3 January 2007 (UTC)
- Sorry - it doesn't establish any notability whatsoever - and looks like a neologism Brookie :) - a will o' the wisp ! (Whisper...) 13:42, 3 January 2007 (UTC)
- Can you show me where articles like TPing or Egging show notability? These events started somewhere. and the term neologism was once a neologism itself and the concept is idiotic. Please explain to me how to go about recreating this page. What do you want so that it can be posted.

Image:ABCQ1.jpg
[edit]Thanks for uploading Image:ABCQ1.jpg. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:
- Go to the image description page and edit it to add
{{Replaceable fair use disputed}}
, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template. - On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.
Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use image by finding a freely licensed image of its subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or a similar) image under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.
If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that any fair use images which are replaceable by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. —Angr 14:59, 3 January 2007 (UTC)

Making a new page
[edit]Hi Brookie, I am a new user on Wikipedia. I figured out how to make a page because I had some info. about The Lord of the Rings thet I wanted to share withe the world. Administration page
[edit]I was upon wikipedia and I happened to come across a page where many users were talking about me in a negative way. I am unaware if Wikipedia has any bitching policies but I may have to 'IAR' myself and contact an administrator to sort this little mishap out. You seem to point out that I have threatened Wikipedia. I don't believe I have, I have merely predicted the outcome of Wikipedia if I were not to become an admin. Anyway I must ask the question we are all dying to know, what is Wikipedia? Is it the definition, the meaning of our existence, the very thing, which controls our lives? Is this what I am threatening? Captaindansplashback 10:15, 8 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit]Hey Im hoping you can help me, I have read the Featured Picture process and don't understand it very well. Am I supposed to add a whole new bit to the peer review page or something? Thanks, Uwain
PS: I want to submit this picture Sunset in Canberra
- You can either nominate it straight as a candidate for featured picture or nominate it initially for peer review - which will give you feedback and an indication if it is likely to make the grade. I would try peer review as a first step. You will need to sort out the license issue first - or it'll be a non-starter. Good Luck. Brookie :) - a will o' the wisp ! Unintentional removal of AKA pin
[edit]Hi, I am a new user to Wikipedia, but I have been observing certain pages prior to the registration of my username. On one of your edits to Alpha Kappa Alpha, you deleted the contact information to the sorority. However, you unintentionally removed the AKA pin. I decided to re-insert the pin because I personally felt that the pin is a historical artifact. I hope that this didn't violate any policy on Wikipedia, and I hope you have a great day. [edit]Hi Brookie, Not sure if you casn help with this or not. I put an image up on the Richard Dannatt article and put it on as crown copyright but some American bloke is telling me it fails the fair use test as it is a living person. John Birch (Luthier)
[edit]Hello, this is Paulkstadden, author of the John Birch Article. It has recently been deleted, and it shows in the log that you are the one who has deleted it. I would like a reason as to why it was deleted. There was nothing undocumented in it, as I have spoken through email with Greg Dorsett, owner of Rock Stars' Guitars, who knew John Birch personally, I have spoken with John Carling, owner of John Birch guitars as well as personal friend to John Birch himself, as well as many others who have allowed me to use their images. I don't know what else I could have referenced in the article. It was deleted with no warning to me, unlike the image deletions. I was planning to re-upload all the images with appropriate copyright tags. I have the rights to use every one of them, as I have received authority to do so from John Carling and the owner of the Glitter guitar. I was not backing up the content of the article onto my hard drive because I believed that I would be notified of any copyright infringement and/or nonsense and would be given time to back the article up. I have already requested an undelete, but if you can shed any light on why this article was deleted, I would appreciate it. I put a lot time and hard work into the research of this article, so I don't want to see it go away. Please email me at [email protected].
Thank you, Paulkstadden 18:19, 15 January 2007 (UTC)
- It read like a bad advert and had been tagged as such by another user. The article needed a lot of work before it would pass muster as an article. If it can be re-written and the mess of the photograps sorted out then fine - but it needs a lot of work. Dear Brookie - hello and Happy New Year. I'm still taking my City of London Guides course and enjoying it greatly.
Meanwhile, as you are MUCH quicker than me, can I please ask you a favour? I have been editing Buckingham Palace Gardens - there's still lots of work to do. But some changes need to be made.
1. Please can you change the article title to Buckingham Palace Garden . The singular form is correct.
2. Could you then do a redirect from Buckingham Palace Gardens to Buckingham Palace Garden.
3. Could you add to the disambiguation page for "Garden" the new article title Buckingham Palace Garden, pointing out that it is known as "the Garden". Would you also please add the Royal Opera House (I'm not sure if there is a Wikipedia article on this, but as you know, it is also universally known as "the Garden").
I have cross-referred to Buckingham Palace Gardens in a number of other articles but once you let me know these changes have been made I will chase up the cross-referrals. Basically, the cross-referrals are in: Buckingham Palace, Windsor Castle, Holyrood House, Time Team, Party at the Palace , Prom at the Palace, Children's Party at the Palace , and Golden Jubilee. ALL should be corrected to reflect the correct SINGULAR form, but I can see to this.
Many thanks as usual. Please let me know on MY talk page when you have accomplished steps 1, 2, 3 above. Best wishes. FClef (talk) 01:24, 16 January 2007 (UTC)

Your edits to Kent Hovind
[edit]You recently made this edit to the Kent Hovind article. Please note that generally, any edit which removes sourced information relevant to the article should be discussed first on that article's talk page. Also, marking such an edit as "minor" and with a summary which simply says "Tidy" might be considered to be a misleading edit summary. Generally, only edit summaries which could not possibly be controversial should be marked as minor, and removals of content should be clearly marked as such in the edit summary. Thank you! You helped me out before, so . . . . . . . . . . . . ...............
[edit]I need some help setting up a Category page. What I'd like to see on wikipedia is Category: Sculptors who exhibited at the 3rd Sculpture International. More and more of the artists who were there are showing up at wikipedia, so there are (opinion) enough to get the category going. Here is a handful of them. Chaim Gross, Pablo Picasso, C. Paul Jennewein, Albert Wein, Adolph Alexander Weinman, Jo Davidson, Milton Horn, Jacques Lipchitz and more. There are 250 in all, though most of those are not in wikipedia . . .... yet. Anyway. I am hoping that you can set this page, or whatever, up for me. Life is good. Carptrash 00:09, 20 January 2007 (UTC)

- I think that I botched my attempt at archiving,(luddite), but there will be others. Thanks for the wonderful bit of sculpture. Yes, it is mostly what I write about. I found your monument in a footnote in Margaret Whinney's, Sculpture in Britian: 1530-1830 and assume that since you did not have the sculptor wikilinked, that there is no article on him. I'll see if I have enough for at least a stub. I finaally got a fire going, so am feeling better, thank-you. Dear Brookie - please visit Talk:Flypast. A user has placed the page on Military history project as needing revision because of "too much UK focus," with the withering second sentence "It might interest people to know that the UK isn't the only place where flypasts happen." My reply, which I posted on Talk:Flypast and on their talk page, is self-explanatory.
I worked very hard in getting an international perspective and any defending you can do will be appreciated.
I understand if people feel the article can be improved and anyone can have a go, but I feel that the second sentence was not only uncalled-for, but also not reflective of the spirit or writing of the article.
Thanks for looking. -- FClef (talk) 23:33, 24 January 2007 (UTC)

image tagging (I'm very sorry)
[edit]It did not occur to me that the name in the image credit might be your own. Looking at your other uploads I see that that is obviously the case, and that you are related to a notable person, which is clearly something to be proud of. Perhaps you could add "(User:Brookie)" or "(myself)" next to your name so that others don't make the same mistake. Given that the subject of the photo is deceased, I can see how I may have upset you. If I did, please accept my apologies and condolences. — CharlotteWebb 10:03, 25 January 2007 (UTC)
Dear Brookie
It appears that RJASE1 really likes this article and has proposed it as a good article. He also raised it to Class B on the assessment scale of the Military History Project and Looper5920 has undone this and replaced the article at the Start Class. Looper also feels the article has too much UK focus and advances that as a material argument against it. Please read my arguments to Looper at Looper's talk page and would you, as an admin, please take any action necessary to remind Looper of Wikipedia standards, or to respond to him/her in any way you see fit? (After my experience with Big Royal Dig I'm not feeling hopeful at all about this - I can see another merciless edit on the horizon.)
Would you kindly also look at the messages I sent to RJASE1's talk page regarding this article.
Please also bookmark the article itself. I would be grateful if you could support its nomination as a Good Article. Thanks. --FClef (talk) 17:40, 26 January 2007 (UTC)
Serendipity
[edit]Hi Brookie ! After much 'defense' on Serampore College (rather Senate of Serampore College), I had turned to Gurubrahma for help. Then, you sprung out of nowhere. Much delighted for the same. Around the same time I had also started a new article on Senate of Serampore College - but that got deleted after a week or so. Kindly help revive it. Further, long ago, I had also started articles on some of the affiliated colleges under the Senate of Serampore College. The Hermes had intruded there and also mentioned about 'unaccreditation' which again needs to be guarded against.
Under Serampore College, I wish to add list of Principals and matters relevant to the College alone. Once you revive Senate of Serampore College (was earlier started as The Senate of Serampore College, I wish to add a list of the Masters and the Registrars including affiliated colleges under it.Pradeep 17:40, 26 January 2007 (UTC)

More is . . . .more
[edit]and this holds true in pictures as in many other things. I'm embroiled in a picture thing now - - scanning pictures from 1992 or so from the negatives. It's slow going and there is so much dust in New Mexico that I need to photoshop dozens of specks off each of them and I sort of don't like photshopping pictures for here too much because . . . . well it just does not seem like a good idea. Anyway Woodlawn Cemetery (Detroit) is growing by leaps and bounds and Life is good. Anyway, soon Major Edward Hartwick will be back among the living, since many of us consider wikipedia to be LIVING, so why should he be an exception? Carptrash 08:53, 5 February 2007 (UTC)

Deletion of Liam Kearns article
[edit]Hi. I wonder if you can point me in the right direction. It appears you have deleted a contibution I made about Liam Kearns on 2 occasions. Each time I made the contrbutuion I tried to improve the article. Liam Kearns is a very well known person in Ireland as manager of the Laois GAA football team. I would appeal to you to reinstate my article or tell me how to do this. Regards, Heshs Umpire
- The point is establishing notability - by reference to the guidelines; I deleted it as a repost as another Admin had already deleted it - it generally frowned upon to re-instate deleted articles without good reason. I suggest that you set up a sub page on your user page, and work on the re-draft there and then have another go. Brookie :) - a will o' the wisp ! (Whisper...) 12:17, 8 February 2007 (UTC)
Hi Brookie, thanks for the answer. Is there any way you could retrieve the text of the article for me? Even, stick it up on my discussion page? I don't pretend to be very tech minded but I've made a lot of contributuons in the last year (a lot of them less significant that Liam Kearns so I hope you can oblige Regards,

A question
[edit]I got a warning about deleting selections from a page I created today. The creation of the page was an iterative process, which is why things have been added and deleted as I go.
A question I have is how do I reference the information? The page periodically says that no references have been made for the information, but I don't understand where I even place the reference if the information is on a band and I'm IN the band, so it's first hand knowledge.

Your neat vandal warning

- I think I've found a bug in it. I use it as {{subst:silly|PageName}} and when it is in the format of {{subst:silly|Talk:PageName}} it just spits out a nowiki version (text only). Thought you'd want to know. --JohnCub 23:12, 10 February 2007 (UTC)
3RR
[edit]Hey - I hope that if i reverted an article more than three times than it could have been classed as "reverting simple and obvious vandalism", but please advise me if you don't feel that was the case. Will 17:12, 14 February 2007 (UTC)
- I don't understand your point - you were well over the 3x rule and could be blocked - but I'm feeling kind today and so won't! Brookie :) - a will o' the wisp ! (Whisper...) 17:14, 14 February 2007 (UTC)
- Well for that I thank you. I was just quoting from the WP:3RR page that says if the edits in question are simple and obvious vandalism then that qualifies as an exception to the 3RR. I presume the reverting applied to that of Wikipedia:Wikipedia is failing, which was also reverted by many other users and the culprit was later blocked (via my warnings on his talk page and then reporting it to admins). I apologise for breaking the 3RR if you do not agree with me and I hope you will appreciate I was acting in the best intentions. Again, thanks for not blocking me. Will 17:21, 14 February 2007 (UTC)
- I don't think it was simple vandalism though, but life is too short to waste time on it - but I respect your intentions and vigilence and so no ban! Keep up the good work! Brookie :) - a will o' the wisp ! (Whisper...) 17:23, 14 February 2007 (UTC)
- 'scuse me for offering an outside view here, but I'd say that was a very clear example of simple and obvious vandalism. The person being reverted was removing the entire essay and replacing it with text starting This was whinge from a controlfreak who couldn't control Wikipedia.. I can't honestly see how that could not be considered vandalism. Anyway, no lasting harm done by anyone, thanks for your vigilance Will. Worldtraveller 17:54, 14 February 2007 (UTC)
- No I disagree - but I am not going to waste beer drinking time arguing about it and the problem seems to have resolved itself. Brookie :) - a will o' the wisp ! (Whisper...) 19:21, 14 February 2007 (UTC)
- Well, that mystifies me utterly. If removing content and replacing it with an attack isn't vandalism, then I don't know what is. Worldtraveller 19:33, 14 February 2007 (UTC)

- Well, when you get back from the pub, or perhaps better, in the morning, maybe you could just spend 30 seconds explaining it to me? Perhaps I'm missing some point, or something. I genuinely would like to know how you could consider that as something other than pure vandalism. Worldtraveller 23:54, 14 February 2007 (UTC)

3RR
[edit]There is a difference between "simple" and "other" vandalism - the exception to the 3R rule applies to "such as graffiti or page blanking (this only applies to the most simple and obvious vandalism)" - that isn't what we had here - it was "other" vandalism and so the exception doesn't apply. Advice needed
[edit]I read the article Mozambican War of Independence, which was written by SGGH. I believe that it has the makings of an FA. I will nominate it for such on Friday, but before I do that, I want to consult with some of my good friends here who already have a featured article under there belts. That's why I would like you to look it over before I place it in nomination and if you have any advice to give User:SGGH, be my guest. Your friend Tony the Marine 01:11, 27 February 2007 (UTC)
- Hi Tony - I have started to go over it - but a couple of intitial thoughts:
- The grammar could do with some tightening up and there is a risk that the article is not portraying a NPOV - with blanket assertions of bad Portuguese behaviour etc - which might well be true - but at the moment looks unbalanced. Will go and have another go at it later. Brookie :) - a will o' the wisp ! (Whisper...) 07:40, 27 February 2007 (UTC)

Nice work on Walter Mildmay
[edit]Clearly you're far more well-informed than I on the topic. I hate to ask work from you in addition to the marvelous job you've done, but I wonder if you could add citation references to the document now that it's expanded? I know that's always the toughest thing later--when no one can remember what source established what fact--and while it's fresh it would be lovely if you could "cite up" the article a bit. Honestly, I think it's comprehensive and well-written enough for at least GA if not FA status. Bravo to you for some fine writing, and clearly for your work in the community as well, since I see you are an admin. Thanks very much for the note--it's always nice to see how a stubbish article you've generated becomes something much better in the hands of others. :-) Best regards, Jwrosenzweig 01:07, 11 March 2007 (UTC)

Now about the issue regarding the article recently created of Annie Riechert. She is a graduating memeber of the Senior class here at Thomas County Central High School. She is the lead softball player on the team, the Lady Jackets. After having signed with a school from the New England States, our teacher asked we create an article about her, should she pursue the road to greatness and become an international snesation. deletion of cover tree page
[edit]I am trying to create a wiki page for a relatively new computer science data structure called a cover tree. Right after I made my first entry the page was deleted, and now I can no longer edit the page. I am currently doing an honors thesis on the subject and I do not understand why I am unable to contribute to the page.

Poser Article external link
[edit]I don't see adding the link to our site as advertising since we are the company that creates over 90% of the content that is published for Poser under the e Frontier name. With that in mind, I think that people might find our site (we sold our original URLs to e Frontier and started anew recently) interesting and useful due to our position with the parent company and that NO one who uses Poser doesn't use at LEAST one figure that we have made.
Notice I did not link to our store, only to our main site, I can change it to the forums if you would like.
Thanks for your time.
Sorry, I had put the link back up again, before I read your message....I thought that I had done it incorrectly last night.

Seeking your advise
[edit]Dear Brookie, Greetings to you ! I had uploaded some image/s onto wikipedia not knowing anything about copyrights. For example, Bandar.jpg [9]. I now find the same picture published in the "Times of India", a daily newspaper here in India without my name. How do I make my images copyrighted - meaning that anyone publishing it need to invariably mention the author/photographer's name.
In this context, how do I revert copyright status of my images ? Kindly advise. Pradeep 18:55, 6 May 2007 (UTC)
- Hi there - on the above image you ahd released the copyright int he picture making it a free image - try using the {{gfdl}} tag as this would require you to be given credit but still allowing the pictures to be used on the Wiki Brookie :) - a will o' the wisp ! Hello, Brookie. An automated process has found and removed an image or media file tagged as nonfree media, and thus is being used under fair use that was in your userspace. The image (Image:Amelia.jpg) was found at the following location: User:Brookie/Pictures. This image or media was attempted to be removed per criterion number 9 of our non-free content policy. Hello Brookie, an automated process has found an image or media file tagged as nonfree media, such as fair use. The image (Image:Traudle.jpg) was found at the following location: User:Brookie/Pictures. This image or media will be removed per statement number 9 of our non-free content policy. The image or media will be replaced with Image:NonFreeImageRemoved.svg , so your formatting of your userpage should be fine. The image that was replaced will not be automatically deleted, but it could be deleted at a later date. Articles using the same image should not be affected by my edits. I ask you to please not re-add the image to your userpage and could consider finding a replacement image licensed under either the Creative Commons or GFDL license or released to the public domain. Thanks for your attention and cooperation. User:Gnome (Bot)-talk 04:28, 19 May 2007 (UTC)

Elliot Roosevelt
[edit]The biog on Elliot Roosevelt lists him as a bombardier during WWII, but also lists him as flying a P-38. Be aware that the P-38 was a fighter plane, not a bomber. The article is further contradictory in that there was some criticism of Roosevelt's rise to Brigadier General when previously only pilots were so elevated. So the question is was he a bombardier or a fighter pilot? If solely a bombardier, the reference to the P-38 should be eliminated. Carroll01 21:11, 26 June 2007 (UTC)

Fair use rationale for Image:BibaMiniskirt.jpg
[edit]Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:BibaMiniskirt.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use. Suggestions on how to do so can be found here.
Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. After Midnight 0001 17:59, 21 July 2007 (UTC)

[edit]Thanks for uploading Image:R&T.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. My page for FD Harper was deleted. He is a writer whose first novel is to be released in the winter and writes for various publications, including the Cincinnati Enquirer. He is publishing a literary magazine due in Sept (I think.) I didn't write much about him and maybe that's why it was deleted, I am putting together a more concise bio -- am I wasting my time, or will it get in? He is an important writer and is influential to many writers here in the midwest. He should be in Wikipedia.
- I would suggest that you work the article re-write up in a private sandbox page (I can create one for you if needed) and then ask someone who has experience in the relevant field to review it to see if it established notability and if it does then re-post it - with an explanation on the talk page. What had been created before was so short as to be almost a non-piece! Hope this helps. Brookie :) - a will o' the wisp ! (Whisper...) 12:46, 20 August 2007 (UTC)

Protected titles
[edit]Hi, I noticed that you were trying to protect the title of AlpInvest Partners, so I deleted the page again (CSD G6) and added it to the protected titles page. Since {{deletedpage}} was TfD'd, we should be using the protected title cascade-protect solution now. There are instructions on the page at WP:PT, and if you need any further help just give me a call. Cheers, Nihiltres(t.l) 15:40, 21 September 2007 (UTC)
- Yes. The way that it works is that the protected page lists are cascade-full-protected, so any page transcluded into them is automatically protected from editing, even though its nonexistence may prevent it from being directly protected. The {{protected title}} template transcludes the empty page in a nice orderly way so that the list doesn't get messy. This is generally better than {{deletedpage}} was, because it means links to the page are red, the history is hidden, and all the usual advantages of deletion. :) Nihiltres(t.l) 15:49, 21 September 2007 (UTC)
