World of fiction

Our culture is full of fiction, entire fictional universes inhabited by millions of fictional characters. Wikipedia is an encyclopedia that seeks to describe facts and opinions about reality. When writing about fiction, please be sure to establish the necessary context for the reader, so that it is clear that the article describes a fictional entity from a specific work. It is also often a good idea to combine many minor fictional characters or places into a single article about the fictional realm in question, especially when there is only a very limited amount that could be said about each of them.

Hi , Greetings. Pls note that your creation of Prenton (ward) and Birkenhead and Tranmere (ward) have been moved to Draft:Prenton (ward) and Draft:Birkenhead and Tranmere (ward) . Content added/edited in Wikipedia needs "inline citation" from independent (third party / secondary / tertiary) reliable source (in any language) for verification to gauge the nobility criteria is met. The articles's inline citation is the WP:BURDEN which it is on the person adding the information. Hi Brianbbrain, Thank you for adding citations into the page; however, you are not using Wikipedia citing method as per point 4 & 5 above instead you are using copy and paste the URL onto the body text. Pls refer to the above info/instruction and template and input the necessary info again. Thank you. CASSIOPEIA(talk) 16:56, 30 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@CASSIOPEIA:
Yes Brianbbrian, what is your message to me ? CASSIOPEIA(talk) 17:10, 30 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@CASSIOPEIA: I think I've sorted out the citations.
Brianbbrian, Good morning, you have added the web sites URL instead of using the Wikipedia citation method as I have mentioned to you on my 2nd message to you above. Pls see item 4 & 5 on my first message. You need to click "cite" on the menu bar and fill in the info as per item 5 as per Template:cite web. The body text should reflect the lead (the every first paragraph) see - MOS:CITELEAD and so (1) either you add a citation on the lead or you create a "Background section" and input some text reflecting the lead and add a citation. Let me know if you need further assistance. Thank you. CASSIOPEIA(talk) 22:11, 30 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@CASSIOPEIA: I have done that.
Hi Brianbbrian, Well done. Reviewed and published. Thank you for your contribution and have a good day. CASSIOPEIA(talk) 23:51, 31 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@CASSIOPEIA: Thanks.

Hi Brianbbrian, Greetings to you. Your creation page above do need further inline citations. Please see article and kindly provide inline citations as indicated. Thank you. CASSIOPEIA(talk) 08:53, 11 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Liverpool City Council election, 2018, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Liberal (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

It's OK to remove this message. Also, to stop receiving these messages, follow these opt-out instructions. Thanks, DPL bot (talk) 09:22, 11 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Help Category:Wards of Wirral (borough), requesting that it be deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under two or more of the criteria for speedy deletion, by which pages can be deleted at any time, without discussion. If the page meets any of these strictly-defined criteria, then it may soon be deleted by an administrator. The reasons it has been tagged are:

  • It is an article with no content whatsoever, or whose contents consist only of external links, a "See also" section, book references, category tags, template tags, interwiki links, a rephrasing of the title, or an attempt to contact the subject of the article. (See section A3 of the criteria for speedy deletion.) Wikipedia has standards for the minimum necessary information to be included in short articles; you can see these at Wikipedia:Stub. Also please note that articles must be on notable subjects and should provide references to reliable sources that verify their content.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator, or if you have already done so, you can place a request here. — Smjg (talk) 10:34, 14 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Linking in list

[edit]

Hi Brianbbrian, I have just reviewed your new article Claughton (ward). As part of the process I have covered the external links you provided for reach councillor to a reference. As per WP:ELLIST, list items should never link to external sources. I noticed you have created a number of additional articles for other wards in the Wirral and I would appreciate if you could help follow this template to update the articles. If you have any questions, pls let me know. Many thanks. pseudonym Jake Brockman talk 11:03, 18 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Liverpool elections 2018

[edit]

Hey Brainbbrian

I was about to start editing the Liverpool City Council elections, 2018 article but am messaging you first to explain what I was going to do. I have created and nurtured the Preston local election articles for many years, and like Liverpool, Preston uses the "in thirds" system. This means that in 2018, Preston's elections are directly comparable with 2014. I noticed on the Liverpool 2018 article that the comparison is made with 2016. The councillors elected in 2014 defend their seats in 2018, just as the 2014 article shows they were defending their seats from 2010. I'll start some point today, maybe later, to change any comparison stats from 2016 to 2014, but I just wanted to let you know of my observation. doktorb wordsdeeds 08:05, 28 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@Doktorbuk: I think comparing the elections to the last time the seats were up for election is the best way to do it as it follows the change in vote patterns the best. I understand the reasons to compare with 2014 but it can show parties decreasing in vote 3 times, for example, when in actual fact there is only one decrease. All of the Liverpool elections have been done in such a way and I believe I have done a good job with the 2018 page.
Okay if you want to keep it like that, though the intro says "due to election by thirds" and then doesn't compare results "like-for-like". As the 2014 article compares to the 2010 article, 2018 stands out as being "wrong". doktorb wordsdeeds 11:36, 28 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Borough of Burnley

[edit]

Thanks for adding the election graphics and data. As the existing content at Borough of Burnley pushed the images annoyingly far from the relevant section I've merged them with the council seats table. I'm rather chuffed with the result and thought I'd bring it to your attention as this approach should be useful elsewhere. All the best. TiB chat 20:03, 12 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@Trappedinburnley: It looks great, thanks.

Cropped images

[edit]

Hi! I've noticed that you crop images using CSS quite often. It's more standard to create a new cropped version of the relevant file on the Commons, which is quite easy to use and makes it easier for other users to understand what's going on. The page Commons:CropTool has information about how to access it or set it up for convenient access as well as how to use it. I hope that helps! Ralbegen (talk) 19:15, 9 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I'm RonBot, a script that checks new non-free file uploads. I have found that the subject image that you recently uploaded was more than 5% in excess of the Non-free content guideline size of 100,000 pixels. I have tagged the image for a standard reduction, which (for jpg/gif/png/svg files) normally happens within a day. Please check the reduced image, and make sure that the image is not excessively corrupted. Other files will be added to Category:Wikipedia non-free file size reduction requests for manual processing. There is a full seven-day period before the original oversized image will be hidden; during that time you might want to consider editing the original image yourself (perhaps an initial crop to allow a smaller reduction or none at all). A formula for calculation the desired size can be found at WP:Image resolution, along with instructions on how to tag the image in the rare cases that it requires an oversized image (typically about 0.2% of non-free uploads are tagged as necessarily oversized). Please contact the bot owner if you have any questions, or you can ask them at Wikipedia talk:Non-free content. RonBot (talk) 17:20, 11 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Disputed non-free use rationale for File:Cllr Gordon Lindsay.jpg

[edit]

Thank you for uploading File:Cllr Gordon Lindsay.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this file on Wikipedia may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the file description page and adding or clarifying the reason why the file qualifies under this policy. Adding and completing one of the templates available from Wikipedia:Non-free use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your file is in compliance with Wikipedia policy. Please be aware that a non-free use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for files used under the non-free content policy require both a copyright tag and a non-free use rationale.

If it is determined that the file does not qualify under the non-free content policy, it might be deleted by an administrator seven days after the file was tagged in accordance with section F7 of the criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.

This bot DID NOT nominate any file(s) for deletion; please refer to the page history of each individual file for details. Thanks, FastilyBot (talk) 01:00, 28 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

A few editing tips

[edit]

Hi BrianBrian. A few tips to improve your election articles:

  • The heading in the infobox should match the article title (i.e. with the year at the front)
  • The 'Use dmy dates' and 'Use British English' templates should go right at the top of the article, not midway through the text
  • Sources should not appear on their own lines. You should build them into the tables, either by adding a row at the bottom, or by putting them against the table title
  • Now the year is at the front of the article title, you don't need to sort the article in Category:Footown District Council elections. However, you do now need to sort it in Category:2018 English local elections.

I've made all the relevant changes here. Hope that all makes sense. Cheers, Number 57 22:45, 30 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@Number 57: Thanks, I'll keep that in mind.

Orphaned non-free image File:The Independent Group logo.png

⚠

Thanks for uploading File:The Independent Group logo.png. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described in section F5 of the criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. --B-bot (talk) 03:48, 20 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Ways to improve Heswall (ward)

Hello, Brianbbrian,

Thanks for creating Heswall (ward)! I edit here too, under the username FULBERT and it's nice to meet you :-)

I wanted to let you know that I have tagged the page as having some issues to fix, as a part of our page curation process and note that:-

This article needs more content, as a table of information alone without context and without external, credible references is not sufficient to establish notability. Please continue to develop this.

The tags can be removed by you or another editor once the issues they mention are addressed. If you have questions, leave a comment here and prepend it with {{Re|FULBERT}}. And, don't forget to sign your reply with ~~~~ . For broader editing help, please visit the Teahouse.

2020 United Kingdom elections moved to draftspace

[edit]

An article you recently created, 2020 United Kingdom elections, does not have enough sources and citations as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page. Hello, Brianbbrian. It has been over six months since you last edited the Articles for Creation submission or Draft page you started, "1946 Bebington Municipal Borough Council election".

In accordance with our policy that Wikipedia is not for the indefinite hosting of material deemed unsuitable for the encyclopedia mainspace, the draft has been nominated for deletion. If you plan on working on it further, or editing it to address the issues raised if it was declined, simply edit the submission and remove the {{db-afc}}, {{db-draft}}, or {{db-g13}} code.

If your submission has already been deleted by the time you get there, and you wish to retrieve it, you can request its undeletion by following the instructions at this link. An administrator will, in most cases, restore the submission so you can continue to work on it.

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Wirral Council, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page New Brighton. Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

It's OK to remove this message. Also, to stop receiving these messages, follow these opt-out instructions. Thanks, DPL bot (talk) 05:57, 14 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Notice

The article 1947 Bebington Municipal Borough Council election has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Non-notable local election. Zero indication this garnered any coverage outside of the local area or was in any way unusual, newsworthy, or impactful outside of the routine effects of being a local election.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. ♠PMC(talk) 07:18, 27 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

2022 Wirral Metropolitan Borough Council election

[edit]

Hi Brianbbrian. Thank you for your work on 2022 Wirral Metropolitan Borough Council election. Can you please help by adding the percentage increases and decreases for the rest of the wards please? Only some of them are properly filled out. Similarly, in the tables for a lot of the wards the parties/candidates aren't currently correctly ordered by largest party at the top of the table descending to the lowest in vote order. If you could correct this too it would be much appreciated. Cheers. Helper201 (talk) 17:01, 9 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Actually, I'm in the process of doing the order corrections myself. I could just do with you adding the remaining percentage increases and decreases for the parties in each of the wards where they aren’t already there. Cheers. Helper201 (talk) 17:11, 9 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Moral Maze, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Edward Stourton.

(Opt-out instructions.) --DPL bot (talk) 06:04, 3 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on File:Moral Maze.jpg requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section F2 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a missing or corrupt image or an empty image description page for a Commons-hosted image.

--Minorax«¦talk¦» 14:52, 3 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on Category:Doctor Who: The Early Adventures audio plays indicating that it is currently empty, and is not a disambiguation category, a category redirect, a featured topics category, under discussion at Categories for discussion, or a project category that by its nature may become empty on occasion. If it remains empty for seven days or more, it may be deleted under section C1 of the criteria for speedy deletion.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and removing the speedy deletion tag. plicit 11:03, 22 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
