Nature Detectives[edit]

Hello and thank you for your edits. However, the material you added to the Nature Detectives article presented two problems for Wikipedia:

  1. The text was promotional in nature, designed to persuade readers to visit and use the Nature Detectives website. Wikipedia articles are supposed to written from a neutral point of view and are explicitly not for promotional purposes.
  2. A significant part of the text appears to have been copied from other web sites with no indication of a compatible license. The text of Wikipedia articles are released under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike License and we cannot therefore accept copyrighted text or images obtained from other web sites or printed material, without the permission of the author(s).

I have added a welcome template above this message which provides links to further guidance on how to edit in accordance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Thank you. --Ibn (talk) 12:38, 9 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

June 2010[edit]

Welcome to Wikipedia. Although everyone is welcome to contribute constructively to the encyclopedia, your addition of one or more external links to the page Nature Detectives has been reverted.
Your edit here was reverted by an automated bot that attempts to remove links which are discouraged per our external links guideline from Wikipedia. The external link you added or changed is on my list of links to remove and probably shouldn't be included in Wikipedia. I removed the following link(s): http://www.facebook.com/naturedetectives.
If you were trying to insert an external link that does comply with our policies and guidelines, then please accept my creator's apologies and feel free to undo the bot's revert. However, if the link does not comply with our policies and guidelines, but your edit included other, constructive, changes to the article, feel free to make those changes again without re-adding the link. Please read Wikipedia's external links guideline for more information, and consult my list of frequently-reverted sites. For more information about me, see my FAQ page. Thanks! --XLinkBot (talk) 13:13, 9 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Please do not add inappropriate external links to Wikipedia, as you did to Wildlife. Wikipedia is not a collection of links, nor should it be used for advertising or promotion. Inappropriate links include (but are not limited to) links to personal web sites, links to web sites with which you are affiliated, and links that attract visitors to a web site or promote a product. See the external links guideline and spam guideline for further explanations. Because Wikipedia uses the nofollow attribute value, its external links are disregarded by most search engines. If you feel the link should be added to the article, please discuss it on the article's talk page rather than re-adding it. Thank you.  BC  talk to me 14:05, 9 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Welcome to Wikipedia. Everyone is welcome to contribute constructively to the encyclopedia. However, please do not add promotional material to articles or other Wikipedia pages. Advertising and using Wikipedia as a "soapbox" is against Wikipedia policy and not permitted. Take a look at the welcome page to learn more about Wikipedia. Thank you. —EncMstr (talk) 16:36, 9 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Please do not add promotional material to Wikipedia, as you did to Nature Detectives. While objective prose about products or services is acceptable, Wikipedia is not intended to be a vehicle for advertising or promotion. Thank you. --Ibn (talk) 14:45, 18 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
