Steven Ciobo[edit]

Hi there, Athmitchell and welcome to the English Wikipedia. I'm just writing to you in regard to your contributions to the Steven Ciobo article. I have removed the images that you added to the page because there is concern about their copyright status. You tagged them as licenced under "public domain" and stated they are your "own work", could you explain this, please? They appear to be professional promotional images, are you claiming you were the photographer of all three images? Only the copyright holder can release these images into the public domain and so I need to understand exactly how you are the copyright holder otherwise we won't be able to use them on Wikipedia and Commons will not host them unless they really are legitimately free licensed images.

Also, you tagged Image:StevenCiobo.jpg as "permission" not available for reuse outside Wikipedia. Unfortunately, this would seem to invalidate your "public domain" claim because public domain licensing means that they may be used by anyone for any purpose anywhere. And Wikipedia does not allow "only for Wikipedia" style licensing because our material is reused in many different ways - that's the significance of the "free" encyclopedia - including on other websites, in books, newspapers, journals etc and so an "only for use on www.wikipedia.org" condition is not acceptable to us because it would inhibit downstream use.

So I have removed the images from the article for now until these issues can be resolved but if it is not sorted out rather soon we will have to delete the images from our servers. If you would prefer to discuss this privately, you are welcome to email me by using the email this user feature, but to use this feature, you will first have to register your email address in your preferences: Special:Preferences. You can find step-by-step instructions for activating your email here: Help:Email confirmation. Of course, you don't have to use email here if you don't want to but if you would prefer to discuss these issues privately then that is an option. And if you prefer to deal with another administrator, that is fine also and you may choose any administrator from the list of administrators here: WP:LA. If you are the IP address which keeps restoring the images, please stop.

You currently appear to be engaged in an edit war. Note that the three-revert rule prohibits making more than three reversions on a single page within a 24 hour period. Additionally, users who perform a large number of reversions in content disputes may be blocked for edit warring, even if they do not technically violate the three-revert rule. If you continue, you may be blocked from editing. Please do not repeatedly revert edits, but use the talk page to work towards wording and content that gains a consensus among editors. If necessary, pursue dispute resolution.

If these images continue being restored without resolving or responding to the issue regarding the copyright status and the copyright holder, I will protect the page so that it cannot be edited until this matter is resolved. Thanks, Sarah 11:35, 9 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
