Wikipedia and copyright

Hello Athistata, and welcome to Wikipedia. My name is Joonji Mdyogolo and I’m project lead on a Africa Centre project to see more African content on Wikipedia. As you well know there is very little content on Wikipedia about the content, women and other marginalised groups and narratives, and there are a few contributors from the continent. As the Africa Centre we are working to try and change that by picking enthusiastic and smart young people from around our provinces of South Africa, giving them a crash course on how to use Wikipedia and having them publish stories that tell a contemporary story about South Africa. Athi is one of these contributors. I agree that he has made some gross infringements (I saw your notes since August on his talk pages), but would like to see how we can grow him and other users like him. One of the things we have been trying to do, is make connections with Wikipedia editors like yourself, so we can connect users like Athi to mentors of your calibre. I think contributions of our young users in South Africa, under the mentorship oeditors like you, can only serve to enrich the site. So while I am also appealing for his unblocking, I’d also like to see if I can use this opportunity to open up a dialogue with you and others on how we can help grow and mentor our local and less experienced users.
