Hello there[edit]

Take a look at tips on building your first article, as well as making user subpages to get a feel of the article. Once that is complete, then you can just copy and paste all you've made into the real wiki! tabor-drop me a line 20:25, 8 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Andy, no it has not been deleted....yet. However, I suggest that you work on the article first in a user subpage. I have created one for you at User:Andy.W.Ellis/Frazier Quarry. If you create the article there, when you are ready it can be moved to the main article space. While it is a subpage, there is no risk that it will be deleted. It may be an idea to blank the existing article, so it will be deleted. Then just work on the subpage version. Hope this helps. – ukexpat (talk) 20:29, 8 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I have been following your edits. It's getting much better so probably no need to use the subpage I created. You should take a look at the Manual of Style and at the page about Wikifying so that you can make it look and feel like the other articles on WP. Happy to help out if you get stuck or otherwise need help. Oh, and don't forget to use edit summaries and to proofread your edits using the preview function.  – ukexpat (talk) 21:11, 8 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Houston we have a problem. It looks like you lifted most if not all of the text from http://www.frazierquarry.com/ in breach of their copyright (see the copyright notice at the bottom of each page). That is not permitted under WP's copyright policy at Wikipedia:Copyright violations. So I will reduce the article to a stub for the moment, until it can be rewritten in such a way that it is not in violation. – ukexpat (talk) 00:21, 9 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I think the best thing to do would be for you to copy the content to the user subpage that I created at User:Andy.W.Ellis/Frazier Quarry and then blank the article page. The blanked page will then be speedily deleted. Then you can work on the article in the subpage and you will avoid any risk that the stub would be deleted while you are still working on it. The sub page is like a safe haven for you to work on the article without risk of deletion. When it's ready it can easily be moved back to the main space. – ukexpat (talk) 15:40, 9 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
No, blanking (provided you are the only editor who has made significant edits) and subsequent deletion is not a problem. If you blank, I will add the deletion tag for you. – ukexpat (talk) 18:42, 9 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

<--Outdent: Now tagged for deletion. An admin will delete it soon. – ukexpat (talk) 19:13, 9 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

User subpages[edit]

Yes, you can create and work on several subpages at a time. To create one, just type "User:Andy.W.Ellis/nameofsubpage" (without the "" and replacing nameofsubpage with the name you want the subpage to have) in the search box on the left hand side of any Wikipedia page. When you click the Go button, you will get the "Wikipedia does not have a user page..." message. If you then click on the "Start the User:Andy.W.Ellis/nameofsubpage page" link, the new page will open in edit mode and away you go. It's always a good idea to put the User Sandbox template at the top, so that other editors, if they find the page, know that its a sandbox (or subpage). There is another method described at Wikipedia:Subpages#How to create user subpages that will put links to any pages created by that method on your main user page at User:Andy.W.Ellis. It's not usually the done thing to edit the user page of another editor, but I have added a link to the Frasier Quarry page there so it is easier for you to find. Hope this helps. – ukexpat (talk) 20:07, 9 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Blue links[edit]

To create a link to another WP article, just enclose the article name within double square brackets. For example, United Kingdom renders as United Kingdom. If you want the blue link to render text different from the name of the article, you use the "pipe trick", i.e, my alma mater renders as my alma mater, see also WP:PIPE and Help:Link#Wikilinks. – ukexpat (talk) 12:54, 10 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Redirect pages[edit]

I don't quite understand your question -- can you provide an example? Thanks. – ukexpat (talk) 13:50, 10 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

OK now I am with you! The easy way is (in your example) to go to Fire pit. As you said that redirects you to Brazier, but if you look closely, underneath the page heading you will see the text "(Redirected from Fire pit)" if you click on the Fire pit link there, it will take you to the Fire pit page itself ignoring the redirect (the full URL is http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Fire_pit&redirect=no -- the "&redirect=no" part does the magic here). Then you can edit that page to remove the redirect link (#REDIRECT brazier), and add your new article text. You should be extra careful in this case to explain your edit in the edit summary and also explain on the Fire pit talk page why you are making the edits. Just as an FYI, you see how I nested this message beneath the earlier one? That's another neat Wiki trick. If you add a colon (:) at the beginning of a line it indents the para that follows, two colons indents again, etc. So you can click on the edit link next to a talk page section header and nest your comments. Clever stuff! – ukexpat (talk) 14:41, 10 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Using Wikipedia for promotional purposes - Frazier Quarry & Shemco[edit]

Judging from your contributions, and the Fire pit article you started, you may with to read up on using Wikipedia for advertising or promotion. The relevant guidelines are WP:COI, WP:SPAM, and WP:CORP. I have removed most of the links you had in Fire pit per the guideline WP:EL. Thanks. Delicious carbuncle (talk)

Orphaned non-free media (Image:Prostores Logo.jpg)[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Prostores Logo.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 05:22, 15 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Fire Pit[edit]

Hi Andy,

I've outlined the reasons for my changes on the Fire Pit talk page. Personally I don't know enough about Home Fire Pit Installation to describe the different types, but I do know that a vast majority of the text on there is unsuitable for Wikipedia. Perhaps we can work together to rebuild the page to something that looks like an encyclopaedia article.

Speedy deletion of Shenandoah Valley Bluestone[edit]

A tag has been placed on Shenandoah Valley Bluestone, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article seems to be blatant advertising which only promotes a company, product, group, service or person and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become an encyclopedia article. Please read the guidelines on spam as well as the Wikipedia:Business' FAQ for more information.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding hangon to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the article does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that a copy be emailed to you. Delicious carbuncle (talk) 12:39, 15 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on Image:The Frazier Quarry Logo.jpg requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section I1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the image is a redundant copy (all pixels the same or scaled down) of an image in the same file format, which is on Wikipedia (not on Commons), and all inward links have been updated.

• Hello! This image has been deleted because it hasn't a copyright tag for a long time. If you have the copyright of this image, feel free to upload it again and don't to put a copyright tag to explain what is it's copyright status. Image without license[edit]

Unspecified source for Image:JMU Wiki.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:JMU Wiki.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, then you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, then their copyright should also be acknowledged.

As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the GFDL-self tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as article name or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 01:26, 20 July 2008 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.
