Hi, I noticed you signed up as a member of the Wikipedia:Version_1.0_Editorial_Team, which is looking to identify quality articles in Wikipedia for future publication on CD or paper. Recently, a 1.0 Collaboration of the Week was created to work on essential topics that are in need of improvement, which will ultimately go in a release version of Wikipedia. You can help by voting, contributing to an article, or simply making a comment. Thank you for your support. :) Gflores Talk 08:06, 4 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Image:Map2.jpg dispute

Hello, this is Aoeu, the contributor to the article on Bitburg High School.

I am relatively new to Wikipedia. Although I have been using it for about two years now, I am not too familiar with some of the more in-depth features. So please bear with me and my inexperience.

Now I have modified the image that was in dispute, I have provided the source of the image and it appears to be in the public domain. Let me know if you have any questions. Thank you.

Another Esperanzial note...

Hi again Esperanzians! Well, since our last frolic in the realms of news, the Advisory Council has met twice more (see WP:ESP/ACM2 and WP:ESP/ACM3). As a result, the charter has been ammended twice (see here for details) and all of the shortcuts have been standardised (see the summary for more details). Also of note is the Valentines ball that will take place in the Esperanza IRC channel on the 14th of February (tomorrow). It will start at 6pm UTC and go on until everyone's had enough! I hope to see you all there! Also, the spamlist has been dissolved - all Esperanzians will now recieve this update "newsletter".

The other major notice I need to tell you about is the upcoming Esperanza Advisory Council Elections. These will take place from 12:00 UTC on February 20th to 11:59 UTC on February 27th. The official handing-over will take place the following day. Candidates are able to volunteer any time before the 20th, so long as they are already listed on the members list. Anyone currently listed on the memberlist can vote. In a change since last time, if you have already been a member of the leadership, you may run again. Due to the neutrality precident, I will not vote for anyone.

Yours, as ever, Esperanzially,

Request Mediation for Irritable Bowel Syndrome

Dear Andrevan,

I have been a casual browser of Wikipedia for quite a long time. I added some information about Probiotics to the article on Irritable Bowel Syndrome. Users (apparently 2 people) on that page have basically been reverting any addition I make without constructive (or often ANY) comment, or "changing target" in the sense that I will refute their argument on the discussion page and they will come up with a new reason to justify censoring my pov. All of the named individuals are listed as being Doctors or webmasters of commercial sites supported by Pharmaceutical companies, in other words they would have a financial agenda in blocking something on Probiotics. I can certainly understand that people may disagree with what I have said, but they won't alter it with appropriate comment/citation or come up with anything productive. What I am getting is all my hard work reverted over and over without explanation. That is my side of things. I have tried to put this on the discussion board with no change in the behavior from these people. Would you please give me an unbiased opinion on the matter and some guidance on what can be done?

Thank you!

Peer review of New York City

Hello Andrevan - You've done work on the New York City article, so I thought you might be interested in participating in its peer review. The article has changed substantially since its last FA nomination. With some editing for concision (making the "skyline" section a daughter article on NYC architecture instead of including it in the main article, for instance), this article should be ready for featured status renomination. Your input would be great. Wv235 16:29, 16 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Anti-humour

Please read my edits before you revert. I cleaned up and sectioned many innapropriately grouped paragraphs and revised the list of jokes which subject traditional humour. 'How many babies does it take to paint a barn?' is not a subversion of a traditional joke.I have also added much technical description on the jokes.

Perhaps we should include a section on 'Sick Humour' or 'Dead Body humour' to this end in the page, but I feel that the point of subverted jokes is less about jokes such as 'Because she had no legs'.

The edits I made to the opening paragraph were because I felt that the style was inconcise and ambiguous. Many subjective phrases such as 'This is extremely funny' were removed for the sake of neutrality. I also heavily edited the section on the specific comedian because it seemed out of place. Again, perhaps a new section in 'Anti-humour in stand-up comedy' is called for.

In all I have made made some big superficial changes, but the essence of the article remains the same. Please could we come to a compromise on this??

Picture switch

Andre, could you inspect the picture I reference on my discussion page and tell me if its suitable as a replacement? Thanks!

Help request for Jarral page

Hi Andre. I am a contributor for the Jarral page. I am having problems with a user called 10 000 typhoons who keeps reverting the page where there is a reference made to a Raja/Indian monarchs conversion to Islam and his family thereon becoming a Muslim dynasty. They are quite a famous and prominent dynasty of Kashmir Rajauri region and were ousted during colinial times. Typhoons seems to want to push his POV about their conversion and seems to think adding that Ghori (the Turk conqueror) was beaten many times is more relevant than when and how this dynasty converted (seeing as it is a Muslim Rajput dynasty, this section is quite relevant). Typhoons appeared suddenly after arbcom banned a lot of users from the Rajput page after it reached it's decision.

References were requested by him for this and I have entertained him now with some and I am still anticipating his vandalised reverts, despite his demand being met.

Please help?--Raja 23:09, 7 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Mediation?

Hi, I'm kinda involved with a vote some of us had at personal rapid transit to block a vandal. Then i started seeing this mediation tag comming up everywhere and decided to ignore it until it popped up on my discussion page. I was wondering what it is.. and what I should do about it. Thanks! Slavoj Zizek

Dear Andrevan, In the file "Slavoj Zizek" of WIkipedia for the last two or three years, entries in the rubric "Articles by Slavoj Zizek" were posted without problems. Publications such as The Guardian, New Left Review, Lacanian Ink,InThese Times, and sites such as Lacan.com and EGS (European Graduate School) - but others too - have been free to post articles (as well as individuals). Then a week ago somebody called The KMan (actually a student in Virginia, USA) started deleting the list of articles and included only a reference to lacan.com and to InThese Times (plus a link to InThese Times and the list of articles in InThese Times). Unfamiliar with the way Wikipedia is contacted to resolve disputes, I just returned the previous list. A series of deleting-pasting ensued between me an TheKMan. Finallly I was able to contact TheKMan and a precarious agreement was reached. However, I later discovered that TheKMan is NOT a member or staff of Wikipedia. So instead of continuing deleting-pasting I recur to mediation in order to know if everybody, and I mean all publications (including InThese Times) are free to post their articles. My name in Wikipedia is Kinke and my email is [email protected] I'm logged to Wikipedia but I don't know how you can contact me (if needed) through Wikipedia (probably you know). Esperanza Newsletter, Issue #1

Reach out is a program aimed at allowing users to bring issues that they have had in Wikipedia to a listening, sympathetic and caring audience:
"No one can know how we feel if we do not say. We cannot expect to get understanding if we do not ask for it. No one will dispute that sometimes life's issues are too much for one person. It is fair to say that sometimes Wikipedia's problems fall under the same heading. This is a place where you can bring the bruises that can sometimes be got on this project for attention."
The Stress alerts program aims at identifying users who are stressed, alerting the community of thier stress and works in tandem with the Stressbusters at trying to identify causes of stress and eliminating them.
Note from the editor
Welcome to this new format of the Esperanza Newsletter, which came about during the last Advisory Council meeting - we hope you like it! The major changes are that each month, right after the Council meeting, this will be sent out and will include two featured programs and a sum up of the meeting. Also, it will be signed by all of the Advisory Council members, not just Celestianpower. Have an Esperanzial end of March, everyone!
  1. Future meetings are to be held monthly, not fortnightly as before.
  2. Bans and Access level changes (apart from autovoice) in the IRC channel are to be reported at the new log.
  3. In the IRC channel, there is going to be only one bot at a time.
  4. The charter requires members to have 150 edits and 2 weeks editing. Why this is the case will be clarified.
  5. A new Code of Conduct will be drafted by JoanneB and proposed to the Esperanza community.
  6. The NPA reform idea is to be dropped officially.
  7. Charter ammendments are to be discussed in future, not voted on.
  8. The Advisory Council is not going to be proposed to be expanded by the Advisory Council themselves, if others want to propose it, they will listen.
Signed...

Vandalism in the midst of a discussion!

Seriously, how are we supposed to DISCUSS on Talk-Pages, when my very arguments there are being vandalised. Still, some still dispute my arguments for being "false quotes", but when I back them up with FULL REFERENCES, my edit is repeatedly reverted. (Again, on the TALK-PAGE, the very place where we are supposed to discuss that). I'm waiting for an approval to revert again to my edits. Hope you'll provide me one. Here is a link to the questionable revert [1]. Thank you in advance. Zadil 00:35, 27 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

page deleted for no content

I wrote an article and I think I failed to post it correctly. I spent an hour writing the article and then it didn't appear.

So I decided to just test before writing the entire article.

Alas, the article was then immediately deleted for no content. I reposted the article and now it is labeled as a candidate for early deletion.

The URL for the article is:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Singles_Party

Hopefully this label will soon be removed. Is there anything I can do at this point or should I just sit tight and wait?

I understand the reason for the stict editorial control at Winkipedia as I have my own wiki website and wiki sites can easily be abused by the "bad guys" without it.

Thanks for your help.

Andy Kaufman Press release

Hello. I'm not sure who should be alerted of this so we will start with you. The press release stating Andy Kaufman had returned had nothing to do with Andy Kaufman Lives.com or any of it's participants. It was released by snopes. This may seem odd but it is good for generating hits. Just like someone releasing a virus then showing up with the fix for it, snopes wrote the fake release (full of easily provable mistakes). The day of the release hundreds of messageboards lit up with talk of Andy's return. By mid day the boards all read "I just found this on snopes, they said it was fake". Then everyone walks away thinking snopes is a cool site and that Andy really died. All that happened was a bogus press release and a disproving of that release by its authors. They used the name Enrique to align themselves with the most popular Andy site of the time. It was good work and it worked well for them but we assure you... Andykaufmanlives.com, Stephen Maddox, Steve Rocco, KING, Alan Abel, Lynne MArgulies, or Andy Kaufman had nothing to do with the Andy returns press release. Thank You

Sam

Well done. I was trying to convicne Clyde to do that and I was about to if he didn't. He was way out of line for that block. Not only was it not a blockable offense, but he was an involved party and was clearly influenced by his biases against Sam. That's not right.Gator (talk) 20:28, 5 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

subst:

When using template tags on talk pages, don't forget to substitute with text by adding subst: to the template tag. For example, use {{subst:test}} instead of {{test}}. This reduces server load and prevents accidental blanking of the template.
This includes templates in your own user space. Thanks! ➨ REDVERS 19:09, 6 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry, Andre, I think you misunderstood me. You are using a special welcome template for new users. It's located here. Every time the user visits his/her talk page where you put that welcome message, the server has to revisit your page a new, download the page and replace it on the user's talk page. Every time anyone visits that user talk page, that happens. If someone was to follow the link to your welcome template and make a change on it - you, for instance - the server would take a massive hit as it updated all the pages with your welcome message on it.
You really need to use {{subst:User:Andrevan/welcome}} instead or you could do some nasty damage! Hope that makes more sense. ➨ REDVERS 20:15, 6 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
