Minor edits

[edit]

Hi! FYI, adding a reference is generally not considered a minor edit. A2soup (talk) 16:42, 19 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hello A2soup, I think I did mark many of them as minor edits but many thanks for letting me know about it. I will be conscious about it from now on! -Anand2202 (talk) 06:50, 20 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Bidar district, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Turks. Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

I never thought I would be replying back to a bot! But here I am, not only replying but appreciating!! Thanks for letting me know about the error, DPL bot. It was surely unintended. However, the disambiguated link has been now changed to the appropriate article title. -Anand2202 (talk) 09:28, 6 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
The crazy thing, Anand2202, is that sometimes the bots reply. Really. Their operators, of course, but posting under the bot account. Ha. Usually only if the bot is making mistakes. They really are indispensable, and help this project immensely. Welcome to Wikipedia, by the way! Quinto Simmaco (talk) 14:10, 12 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Query regarding some of my Image uploads on Wikimedia

[edit]

Two of the images that I have contributed to wikimedia have been nominated for deletion by Roland zh. I have explained my part in this regard and clarified on the nomination page. There's no further communication neither from the patroller nor from other admins. Will the images stay or get deleted? I am left clueless about what they will become of. Can you help me Quinto Simmaco (talk)?

Here's the Image1 and Image2 - Anand2202 (talk) 16:04, 12 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Wait for the deletion nomination to close, it'll happen in a few days. As it's over on Wikimedia Commons, I can not really speculate on the outcome. Mdann52 (talk) 17:07, 12 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

The "helpme" tag only gets the attention of a helper, and it's not necessarily going to be me; I actually didn't see your question until just now. Obviously, Anand2202 helped you out on this one. I do appreciate you thinking of me, though! And I'd be happy to help you out in the future. To get my specific attention, though, you would need to leave a comment on my talk page, which is here. I'm always willing to help. However, if you need a REALLY QUICK answer, the "helpme" tag (exactly what you did) is the best way to get the fastest response. If you don't need something answered right at that moment, or if you just feel like you need help that's a little more involved, feel free to leave a comment for me on my talk page, anytime. :) Quinto Simmaco (talk) 14:53, 13 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Explaining

[edit]

I patrolled your page. I went through the enormously-backlogged list of newly-created pages and confirmed that your page was okay: not spam, not an attack page, not a copyright violation, not any of the other reasons for which I would delete someone's page without asking. Then I clicked "patrolled" to remove it from the list of "pages that have not yet been patrolled", and moved on to the next entry. That's all. DS (talk) 16:17, 6 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks a lot! And by the way, this was a quick response. --Anand2202 (talk) 16:22, 6 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. St. Peter's silhouette

[edit]
  • Hello, fellow photographer.

I had to shrink the photo to better fit the page. Also, I would never delete a wiikipedian's post with your history of excellence, However, between one photographer to another, that photo isn't a silhouette. It is a poorly lit twilight photo. A well programmed computer's monitor, reveals all the details of that image. A true silhouette, like your birds photo, only shows a black image against the lighter background. Also, the glare from the sun in the image, eliminates it as a silhouette photo as well. All the best - Pocketthis (talk) 21:08, 27 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Many thanks! I really appreciate your correctional feedback. Anand2202 (talk) 08:47, 28 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry, dear 'friend', I am not whom you are referring to. However, I am 'accepting' your 'friendship' here on wikipedia. :) Feel to have a conversation. Regards, Anand2202 (talk) 09:37, 16 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]
It was easy to communicate on faceebook thats why I wanted to communicate you in Facebook. I wanted to talk about the article Zakir Naik. Sharif uddin (talk) 09:45, 16 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Sure buddy, we can have a conversation regarding anything (or anyone, for that matter!) Inconvenience caused to you is deeply regretted but I would prefer it here on my talk page. Looking forward to your chat. Cheers! Anand2202 (talk) 09:52, 16 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]
My question is that most of the newspapers cited his speeches partially which mostly changed the actual meaning of his speeches. And these "doctored tape", we are using in wikipedia as reference. It seems very regretful and nonsense to me and to the other fan wiki users of Zakir Naik. -Sharif uddin (talk) 10:00, 16 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]
You have a valid concern, my dear friend. That is the exact reason why I am now more careful about citing the source. I am very happy to inform you that I have set the reputation of the source as my top-most priority. I make sure that my edits on the article strive for verifiable accuracy, citing reliable & authoritative sources, especially when the topic is controversial or is on living person related to religion & allegedly influencing terrorism. I am adhering strictly to WP:BLP guidelines. I would also like to inform you that instead of looking at the article as a FAN, please look at it with a WIKIPEDIA EDITOR's perspective. I can't help with what you're "feeling" but I respect your right to point out any logical & rational non-sense content in the article. Please let me know if you have any other concerns. I am very glad that you've asked. :) - Anand2202 (talk) 10:18, 16 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]
I am obviously a fan of Naik but I can completely assure you that I have never did any partiality or broke any guideline knowingly when editing in wikipedia, and I always try to maintain that. It was also very pleasing to converse with you like that way. Also thanks for your answer. :) Sharif uddin (talk) 10:33, 16 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Dear Sharif uddin, I have full faith in your capability of being an impartial wikipedia editor. Together we can make the article as accurate & neutral as possible. Anyways, its always good to have feedback. Feel free to interact. Happy Wiki-Editing! :-) -Anand2202 (talk) 10:42, 16 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Edit on Zakir Naik

[edit]

You reverted my edits here but it is not said by all the muslim scholars but only by a few, which is mentioned in the links attacked to it. So my edit was right which was "is regarded by some", not "is said to be". Sharif uddin (talk) 11:20, 16 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

What a coincidence! and Timing!? Ha ha! Fantastic. The moment I posted a clarification on your talk page, I got a notification from you on my talk page! Coming to the subject, my dear fellow editor, nowhere in the content it is mentioned about the "scholars" - be it all or some. The issue is WHAT rather than WHO. Accordingly, the source has been cited. You can refer to the source for detailed context. Feel free to ask for clarifications. Happy Wiki-Editing! :-) Anand2202 (talk) 11:34, 16 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Asian 10,000 Challenge invite

[edit]

Hi. The Wikipedia:WikiProject Asia/The 10,000 Challenge has recently started, based on the UK/Ireland Wikipedia:The 10,000 Challenge and Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The 10,000 Challenge. The idea is not to record every minor edit, but to create a momentum to motivate editors to produce good content improvements and creations and inspire people to work on more countries than they might otherwise work on. There's also the possibility of establishing smaller country or regional challenges for places like South East Asia, Japan/China or India etc, much like Wikipedia:The 1000 Challenge (Nordic). For this to really work we need diversity and exciting content and editors from a broad range of countries regularly contributing. At some stage we hope to run some contests to benefit Asian content, a destubathon perhaps, aimed at reducing the stub count would be a good place to start, based on the current Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The Africa Destubathon which has produced near 200 articles in just three days. If you would like to see this happening for Asia, and see potential in this attracting more interest and editors for the country/countries you work on please sign up and being contributing to the challenge! This is a way we can target every country of Asia, and steadily vastly improve the encyclopedia. We need numbers to make this work so consider signing up as a participant! Thank you. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 01:08, 20 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

ARBIPA sanctions alert

[edit]

This is a standard message to notify contributors about an administrative ruling in effect. It does not imply that there are any issues with your contributions to date.

You have shown interest in India, Pakistan, and Afghanistan. Due to past disruption in this topic area, a more stringent set of rules called discretionary sanctions is in effect. Any administrator may impose sanctions on editors who do not strictly follow Wikipedia's policies, or the page-specific restrictions, when making edits related to the topic.

To opt out of receiving messages like this one, place {{Ds/aware}} on your user talk page and specify in the template the topic areas that you would like to opt out of alerts about. For additional information, please see the guidance on discretionary sanctions and the Arbitration Committee's decision here. If you have any questions, or any doubts regarding what edits are appropriate, you are welcome to discuss them with me or any other editor.

Whoa! Frivolous? Dear @TrangaBellam, The edit was supported with proper citation. I hope you noticed it. The information is accurately sourced but it is still deleted. Anand2202 (talk) 13:12, 21 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
The reason mentioned however by Kautilya3 for deletion was that the edit section was not about Aurangzeb. I am wondering about the

For the record, Aurangzeb did grant protection and patronage to several temples, ghats, and maths, including in Banaras, both before and after the demolition. Ian Copland and others support Iqtidar Alam Khan who concluded Aurangzeb to have built more temples than he had destroyed."

in the article is also on the same line of query!
The month was the value addition but it seems not fit for the article? The source is the Biography of Aurangzeb, but still irrelevant in the article? Anand2202 (talk) 13:23, 21 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Please write coherently or edit an encyclopedia in a language you feel comfortable in.
The line you quote was written by me and is in the "Motive" subsection under "Establishment" section. You had added the now-reverted line to the "Historicity" subsection under "Pre-mosque history" section. TrangaBellam (talk) 13:37, 21 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I read the edit and found the information worthy of inclusion. That edit is about historical documentation available for what had happened during pre-mosque history and not about Aurangzeb. The mention of him is to provide context to who the author was and who, as per the author, gave the orders to destroy the temple. For ease of discussion, I reproduce the edit (with some modifications) below:
{{talkquote|Saqi Mustad Khan, the chronicler of Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb's reign, in his book Maasir-I-Alamgiri states that the destruction of Kashi Vishwanath Temple was carried out on the Emporer's command during the month of September 1669.Webberbrad007 (talk) 15:12, 21 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
We state unequivocally,

In September 1669, Aurangzeb ordered the demolition of the temple; a mosque was constructed in place, probably by Aurangzeb himself, sometime soon[Endnote]

Endnote: Masar-i-Alamgiri only records the destruction of the temple.

That being said:
The former temple is usually referred to as the temple of Vishweshwar in scholarship, a practice we adopt. Esp. to differentiate it from Holkar's temple.
Your sentence impress upon a reader that Saqi Musta'd Khan was an official court-chronicler of Aurangzeb. He was not, and was recruited after Aurangzeb's death. TrangaBellam (talk) 16:26, 21 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Maasir-i-Alamgiri is an account of Emperor Aurangzeb's(1620-1707) reign as chronicled by Saqi Mustad Khan. Translations of the book state it to be so - though I have to confess that I can't read Persian so would defer to you if you have read it and believe this is inaccurate.
Assuming that the first sentence is true, the proposed sentence construction simply states that fact. If an alternate wording is better suited, we should explore it. Maasir-i-Alamgiri would be one of the main documents anyone investigating Aurangzeb's reign would refer to, so it would be incomplete to not cite it as one of the sources for our understanding of what had happened during pre-mosque period.
In addition, not citing it gives an impression that the claims of temple destruction come from later period Hindu and British accounts and not from Muslim chroniclers of that period. This, in my opinion, would paint a one-sided picture. Webberbrad007 (talk) 17:57, 21 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I acknowledge your point re calling the temple "Kashi Vishwanath". We can adjust the wording as {{talkquote|Saqi Mustad Khan, the chronicler of Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb's reign, in his book Maasir-I-Alamgiri states that the destruction of the Temple of Vishwanath at Kashi was carried out on the Emperor's command during the month of September 1669.Webberbrad007 (talk) 18:10, 21 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you, Webberbrad007 for your acknowledgement. I hope it to be alright for inclusion in the article. Do we agree on this now, Kautilya3 and TrangaBellam? Anand2202 (talk) 11:13, 23 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
No. -- Kautilya3 (talk) 11:16, 23 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
What is the rationale for your opposition? Webberbrad007 (talk) 18:36, 23 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
The rationale was already staed in the talk page discussion. If you want me to keep repeating it again and again, I will have to invite an admin to do it for you. -- Kautilya3 (talk) 20:59, 23 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
It would help if you can share the link here.
Your stated rationale above was countered by me in this section and I restate here again:

That edit is about historical documentation available for what had happened during pre-mosque history and not about Aurangzeb. The mention of him is to provide context to who the author was and who, as per the author, gave the orders to destroy the temple.

The lack of inclusion of such an important reference in the write up leads to incorrect conclusion that Muslim chroniclers didn't mention the destruction of the temple in their writings.
I will ignore your unnecessary threat and focus purely on the rationale of your arguments. Webberbrad007 (talk) 23:27, 23 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
All article discussion should happen at the article talk page. -- Kautilya3 (talk) 07:11, 24 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Content you add to Wikipedia should be written in your own words. Please let me know if you have any questions. — Diannaa (talk) 13:39, 22 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you Diannaa, for sharing your concern. I request you to have a look at all the 38 references cited by me (out of total 44 as on 22/08/2022). I would also like to point at the fact that my content source for wikipedia article is mostly books & journals which are academic in nature. For history part of this article, my sources point to books (from digital libraries of leading global universities) published way back in 1880s. Wherever necessary, web citation is given from authoritative sources on the topic (viz. NTCA, IUCN, WWF) You will find there are a few news citations, which I prefer from the one in public domain like Press Information Bureau.
You would be glad to know that I have a physical copy of the literature material (is it book? technically, no!) we are referring here, directly obtained from one of the organization active in Tiger conservation in India. Hence, the book URL in citation is missing. If I have got it online, I would have added the URL in citation complying with Wikipedia's WP:V policy! :-)
Let me put out some facts here. The reason I am not calling it a book is because (1) It is not commercially published (2) It doesn't bear any ISSN or ISBN and (3) NTCA and Wildlife Institute of India are publishing this in public domain with sole intention of Academic and Research purposes. Since it is published in public domain by a non-profit collaboration, there's no copyright asserted on the literature in physical form I have sourced the content from.
While I am aware of the Wikipedia's copyright policy, I shall endeavor to put out the text in my own words, as you have suggested. Have a good day! --Anand2202 (talk) 01:50, 23 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
According to The Indian Copyright Act, 1957 (Chapter V Section 25), Anonymous works, photographs, cinematographic works, sound recordings, government works, and works of corporate authorship or of international organizations enter the public domain 60 years after the date on which they were first published, counted from the beginning of the following calendar year (i.e., as of 2022, works published prior to 1 January 1962 are considered public domain). Posthumous works (other than those above) enter the public domain after 60 years from publication date. Any other kind of work enters the public domain 60 years after the author's death. Text of laws, judicial opinions, and other government reports are free from copyright. Photographs created before 1962 are in the public domain 50 years after creation, as per the Copyright Act 1911.
The source from which the content was added to Wikipedia article Tigers in India is a report published by National Tiger Conservation Authority in collaboration with Wildlife Institute of India under the ambit of Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Government of India.
I hope this clears that there were no "Copyright problem on Tigers in India".
Thanks. Anand2202 (talk) 03:38, 23 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
The place where I found the matching content is this report, which was published in 2008. Government works in India are copyright for 60 from publication date. So no, I will not be able to restore it; it;'s a violation of Wikipedia's copyright policy to include it. — Diannaa (talk) 13:47, 23 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, I agree! Content is from the report you've mentioned.
A REPORT! PUBLISHED BY THE GOVERNMENT MINISTRY!!
Text of laws, judicial opinions, and other government reports are free from copyright.
Request you to reconsider. Anand2202 (talk) 00:57, 24 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Here is the legislation: "28. Term of copyright in Government works.— In the case of a Government work, where Government is the first owner of the copyright therein, copyright shall subsist until sixty years from the beginning of the calendar year next following the year in which the work is first published." So it is indeed copyright. — Diannaa (talk) 14:04, 24 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, allow me to admit that this is getting a bit dragged. I see your concern. Let me rest my case by addressing your point of view that the report is not released under a compatible license and hence my reproduction of text amounts to Copyright Infringement.
We are focusing on two very different aspects of the Legislature under discussion. I think you missed out on the definition of Government Works clearly laid out in "2. Interpretation.— In this Act, unless the context otherwise requires,— “Government work” means a work which is made or published by or under the direction or control of— (i) the Government or any department of the Government;" With all due respect, I just want to highlight "52. Certain acts not to be infringement of copyright.— (1) The following acts shall not constitute an infringement of copyright, namely,— (q) the reproduction or publication of— (iii) the report of any committee, commission, council, board or other like body appointed by the Government if such report has been laid on the Table of the Legislature, unless the reproduction or publication of such report is prohibited by the Government;"
I would have agreed to your point if this was solely published by Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change. That would make this report certainly qualify as a Government Work, and obviously the copyright law restrictions would kick in. Unfortunately, I think, the terminologies - WORK & REPORT - are getting confused here. But that's the way it is. Legal language is beyond comprehension of us commoners. This report reflects on the outcome of spending of public money on conservation efforts. This report is held accountable in the Parliament (laid on the Table of the Legislature) for scrutiny. To make it more clear for you, I have pulled out this piece of information (authentic & in public domain, of course!) from the archives of Prime Minister's Office to make a point that this very 2008 report under question is put out in public domain by Government through National Tiger Conservation Authority, the publisher ( a body appointed by the Government) Lastly, I am also wondering have you seen any assertion of copyright and/or prohibition of reproduction in the report itself? I haven't found!!! (unless the reproduction or publication of such report is prohibited by the Government)
Being civil and polite, All I can do is request you to reconsider. Anyways, we are here doing our contribution in our own ways. Adhering to principles surely goes a long way. I shall strive to do my best to avoid such impression of copyright violation.
It's up to you as the person who wishes to copy the content to prove that it is in the public domain. I can't take your word for it that this paper was tabled in the Lok Sabha. — Diannaa (talk) 04:23, 25 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Continuing my contribution to Wikipedia by going through extensive literature sources which are authoritative and hence reliable, I came across something which reminded me of this little interaction of ours. @Diannaa, you would be glad to know that report under question is mandated by law to be laid on the table of legislature. Please refer to section 38T in CHAPTER IV B of THE WILD LIFE (PROTECTION) ACT, 1972 [1]
I understand that you can't take "my word for it". Hence, citing to verifiable and reliable sources. Have a good day! Anand2202 (talk) 06:23, 9 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I am not seeing this particular document mentioned in the legislation you provide. What I was thinking was that you could find the paper mentioned in the archives such as at this page or this page. I tried to find it but couldn't, and like I said, it's not up to me to find the documentation and it was taking up too much of my time to try to do so. So if you could find the listing that shows it was tabled that would be perfect. — Diannaa (talk) 13:08, 9 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Anand2202, you began reviewing this article at GAN but nothing has happened for some time now – maybe you forgot about it? I don't think there's much work to do on it, and it'd be nice to get it finished. If you don't wish to continue, let me know and we can pass on the baton to another reviewer. All the best, Chiswick Chap (talk) 12:44, 21 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hello @Chiswick Chap, After going through the article it was felt that some more content needs to be added for an in-depth reading experience. I could have asked for modification/addition, however, you would be glad to know that the work of gathering the sources is almost done and very soon the content will be added. And for the delay, I would like to apologize. Due to some unforeseen events, I was caught up & not able to complete the chosen task. It will be now taken up on priority. Thanks. Anand2202 (talk) 04:26, 27 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Anand2202, I'm glad you're back from events in real life. It will be helpful if you provide the sources and suggestions for changes, but there is a necessary separation between the GA reviewer's role, which is commenting and evaluating, and the nominator's role, which is editing. Otherwise there is the risk of something approaching an edit-war rather than simply a difference of viewpoint. Anyway, I look forward to seeing your comments shortly. All the best, Chiswick Chap (talk) 08:51, 27 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
You got it right! I have raised this concern on the GAN talk page. However, there are certain additions which are now live on the article.
Let me try to enunciate the idea of improving this page (fortunately or unfortunately, I am walking in that direction) - The main difference in the eastern and western approach to yoga is the depth and extent of application. Western views are more focused on the postures as exercise or a more recently popular form of workout. Eastern thoughts run much more deep - the philosophy highlights "outer to inner" transformation - starting from postures & breathing techniques (outer, physical) the ultimate objective is to transform the person in realizing the oneness with the universe (inner, psychological) i.e., starting from the body, and then through the mind it aims to liberate the soul. Yoga is not just physical exercise but a way of life. Yoga means that which takes you on to a higher dimension or higher perception of life.
As one of the proponent with strong views on this cultural appropriation says - Yoga is not about just achieving physical and mental fitness. Health, physical fitness and mental fitness are only the side effects of yoga. The goal of yoga, the true benefit of yoga is about transcending the limitations of the body and the mind. Yoga is not a morning-evening kind of practice. There is a practice but that is not the important thing. Every aspect of your life, the very way you walk, breathe, interact everything should become a process of yoga. Nothing is excluded from this.
A good number of sources ranging from websites, published articles, scholarly articles from journals, books are available on this subject. there's a lot of scope in improving the article for the benefit of a reader. Anand2202 (talk) 09:23, 27 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for discussing. I fully understand that the subject of the origins and possible (mis)appropriation of yoga are sensitive matters. I have studied the subject in depth for some years now, and as well as having a shelf-ful of scholarly books on yoga, have brought some 50 yoga articles to Good Article status. In all these cases, I have tried to deal with each aspect neutrally and dispassionately, mentioning viewpoints on all sides equally. If you feel as you say that you have a WP:COI then you should recuse yourself from the review and leave it for another editor to take up. All the best, Chiswick Chap (talk) 09:43, 27 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Editing S. Asian topics

[edit]

Citing a GOI website to claim ahistorical nonsense about Yoga dating back to 2700 B.C. among other things is salient ground to request a topic-ban for CIR issues. Be warned. TrangaBellam (talk) 13:17, 27 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Noted. Didn't think government website can be unreliable. Will strive to look for more appropriate sources. Thanks. Anand2202 (talk) 05:19, 1 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

POV reviews before film's release

[edit]

The references on 72 Hoorain that you try to restore were original research comments by the authors with extensive pov pushing without watching the film, before the film was even released to public. I have updated specific references after the film's release. Wikipedia is not about what Hindu's, Christian's, Jews, and Muslim's and political parties like Congress and BJP think and feel about a film. It is about facts and neutralitiy.Fostera12 (talk) 14:28, 10 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for pointing out the concern in this edit.
Is there a way to convey standard terminologies such as tactical manoeuvres, replenishment at sea (RAS) approaches, air defence against hostile fighter aircraft and cross deck helicopter operations by writing in one's own words?
Usage of phrases "a guided missile destroyer" and "an indigenously built offshore patrol vessel" from the source can be the contention.
After your notice, I checked the PIB Copyright Policy out of curiosity. I am aware that Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously.
Will strive to avoid such instances. Anand2202 (talk) 06:03, 22 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hello! Is there any reason you found this particular session notable? Wikipedia does not usually cover individual sessions of parliament like this. Even Budget, Winter, and Monsoon sessions don't get their own individual articles, so I fail to see how this 5-day special session passes WP:N. Will the special session itself be an enduring matter of discussion? Can't the information be merged into the relevant articles instead? For example, the passed legislation can go into the 17th Lok Sabha and Second Modi ministry articles, the topics about the inauguration and flag hoisting of the new building can go into the New Indian parliament building article, and the wild speculations of the Opposition are simply non-notable, flash-in-the-pan stuff that shouldn't be on Wikipedia anyway. Kind regards, W. Tell DCCXLVI (talk to me!/c) 05:44, 21 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Dear Wilhelm, The article on Parliament Special Session, 2023 evolved after the creation of Wikipedia page on Parliament Special Session. I do understand that notability is a test used by editors to decide whether a given topic warrants its own article. The creation of article page under question is not an indiscriminate inclusion of topic.
According to policy deciding on the concern you have raised, while creating new content about a notable topic, editors should consider how best to help readers understand it. Often, understanding is best achieved by presenting the topic on a dedicated standalone page, but it is not required that we do so; at times it is better to cover a notable topic as part of a larger page about a broader topic, with more context (and doing so in no way disparages the importance of the topic). Editorial judgment goes into each decision about whether or not to create a separate page, but the decision should always be based upon specific considerations about how to make the topic understandable.
The common theme in the notability guidelines is that there must be verifiable, objective evidence that the subject has received significant attention from independent sources to support a claim of notability. No subject is automatically or inherently notable merely because it exists: the evidence must show the topic has gained significant independent coverage or recognition. The article topic and its content certainly abide by these conditions. My understanding is that Notability requires only the existence of suitable independent, reliable sources, not their immediate presence or citation in an article and a topic is "notable" in Wikipedia terms only if the outside world has already "taken notice of it".
Regarding the content of topic, it just describes the happenings around the event. Part of the "wild speculations" were in fact true (Women's Reservation Bill surfaced as Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam). If some new things appear on the legislative front, readers can always connect the dots to this particular event and things associated with it. However, the intent is to enrich the readers' experience. For a global user, the article might not be notable or it may seem like insignificant. But for an average user in India who might be curious to know about the topic, this page serves to disseminate the knowledge in a manner complying with the Wikipedia guidelines. The annual routine sessions of Parliament don't have their own individual articles - yes, it is evident. But that cannot be a rationale to prevent development of article pages on the similar lines. If someone contributes on the content of each session, I am happy to welcome such inclusions as long as they adhere Wikipedia policies. Regards, Anand2202 (talk) 02:14, 22 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Mount Kailash

[edit]

Hi Anand, I am a topographic researcher. Mount Kailash on my list of wrong elevations on my site at http://viewfinderpanoramas.org/elevmisquotes.html#kailash and I have complete confidence in my claim that my Chinese mapping source, which is based on official mapping by the Chinese military, is correct. The kind of sites that you are citing are not topographic sites, and many of their heights are based on old estimates that have been copied down. Many of these sites still claim that Ulugh Muztagh is 7723 metres high. I have checked the Chinese heights against data derived from high resolution images from U.S. satellite data, and these data are clearly consistent with 6638 metres.
