Welcome[edit]

Welcome to Wikipedia! Thanks for your contributions to the coolest online encyclopedia I know of =). I sure hope you stick around; we're always in need of more people to create new articles and improve the ones we already have. You'll probably find it easiest to start with a tutorial of how the wikipedia works, and you can test stuff for yourself in the sandbox. When you're contributing, you'll probably find the manual of style to be helpful, and you'll also want to remember a couple important guidelines. First, write from a neutral point of view, second, be bold in editing pages, and third, use wikiquette. Those are probably the most important ones, and you can take a look at some others at the policies and guidelines page. You might also be interested in how to write a great article and possibly adding some images to your articles.

Be sure to get involved in the community – you can contact me at my talk page if you have any questions, and you can check out the village pump, where lots of wikipedians hang out and discuss things. If you're looking for something to do, check out the community portal. And whenever you ask a question or post something on a talk page, be sure to sign your name by typing ~~~~.

Again, welcome! It's great to have you. Happy editing! --Spangineer (háblame) 14:07, Jun 9, 2005 (UTC)

PM Photo[edit]

(This is User:Barrettmagic's reply to my query on his talk page):

Sure! I recall seeing the year for the image was actually 1991 - so yeah, not really today. If you'd like to update the caption that's cool. -- Barrettmagic 17:56, 18 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Weathermen[edit]

(This is User:Lulu of the Lotus-Eaters's response to this edit summary):

Your edit comment to use talk would generally be sensible. However, unfortunately, in this case, Tanya Ravine's edits have nothing to do with the content issue. Nearly his/her entire edit history consist of looking at my edit history, and changing whatever I edit; I'm pretty sure s/he really could not care less about the specific article. It's weird to have an "anonymous detractor", but c'est la vie. She apparently created an account just to put rude comments in the article that is about me (in my identity outside WP).

In any case, I made a pretty long comment in Talk:Weathermen already, the first time I edited on that issue, and before Ms. Ravine came along. Lulu of the Lotus-Eaters 16:20, 8 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah I must admit, looking at his/her edit history, he/she seems to have some issues with you :-( Do you know who he/she is? Akamad 01:44, 9 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Beatles page[edit]

(This is User:Wahkeenah's comment in response to this edit):

Not to quibble too much... but in their glory years the Beatles were commonly referred to in the media by their first names. You've done some possibly-excessive changing to last names. Presumably trying to make it sound more encyclopedic. Not worth getting into an edit-war about, but worth discussing, maybe. :) Wahkeenah 10:32, 9 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Done and done. (See Beatles talk page) Akamad 09:08, 10 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Stitches pulled out[edit]

(This is User:Wahkeenah's comment in response to this edit):

That's fine. That was a momentary bit of inspiration. I haven't the vaguest idea what the Beatles' real reason was for the "Help" dedication, other than purposeful weirdness. It might be worth pointing out that it anticipated some of the equally absurd dedications and references in projects like the "Monty Python" TV series. :) Wahkeenah 10:23, 10 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Dylan Live 1966[edit]

(This is User:Monicasdude response to this edit and talk page comment):

There's no substantive dispute to compromise here; JDG and BCG are just reverting edits because I've made them. The original discussion of the substantive change is on L1759's talk page, and nobody's challenged it. Monicasdude 22:34, 23 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Baba Yetu[edit]

(After I provided some info on the Reference desk about the Civ 4 theme song):

Hey, thanks for your help! I would have never found out any more info without it. -- Demonesque talk 21:54, 8 November 2005 (UTC) [reply]

Not a problem at all. I actually found the song a few days ago because I too really loved it. They really have put a lot of effort into the music. Akamad 22:07, 8 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Johnny Cash[edit]

(After I provided some info on the Reference desk about a Johnny Cash song):

Thanks, i'll add it to the album on his discography. I thought it was fairly recent. Karmafist 03:22, 19 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Edits To Your Page[edit]

Excuse me, sir, but I believe the new version of your profile was far superior to the old/current one, and furthermore, more accurate. Please revert at once before I call my internet lawyer and sue.the preceding unsigned comment is by 68.171.135.249 (talk • contribs) 08:43, November 24 2005 (UTC)

Just for the record, this edit is by User:68.171.135.249, he/she is talking about this edit that they made on my userpage. Why? Because I wrote a warning on his/her talk page because of these edits: [1], [2], [3]. And by the way, thanks to User:Who who quickly reverted User:68.171.135.249's edit on my userpage. - Akamad 08:56, 24 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks from Jefffire[edit]

The Tilde key was exactly where you said it would be, thanks. Incidently I have noticed the second paragraph in Mike Church (radio) is pretty biased and rude so I was thinking about editing it. So far though my only change was removing Bobsleding from the list of missionary positions on the grounds that a)it was made up b)it was clearly a rear entry position. Let me know if I do somthing wrong. Jefffire 11:44, 26 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Oh ditto the above. I mean about reverting vandalism (well moving a comment to the comment page). I'm bored, and I'm Australian, but I'm not a uni student, or at least not until I go back in 2007. --Swamp Ig 08:38, 29 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

CP blanking[edit]

Hi. I am the original author of Crystal Palace (chat site). I wrote it as part of my project at dealing the history of talkers, which includes 11 individual chat sites. The reason why Crystal Palace is important, from my point of view, is because of the controversy surrounding it, in relation to the 3 incidents that it is believed to be responsible for, namely 1) hacking 2) spying 3) blackmail. If we were to remove them, then the article has no merit for existence, in my opinion. I already put in there that they were rumours, but that the importance is how these rumours affected everyone else. Incidentally, as they state quite correctly, those same rumours that drove everyone away from talkers generally were the same users that drew users to Crystal Palace, and it effectively worked as advertising for them. In other words, people who didn't believe the rumours, or who thought that they were made up things designed to smear Virus's name, went to Crystal Palace to empathise with him.

Now, I am at the stage where I don't want to contribute to it anymore. I pretty much have already contributed all that I can to the project, besides minor little tweaks here and there. I am very happy that people have come on who personally know a bit about it who can add things. I am quite confident that they have links to things which can give more of a story about the talker besides just the controversy bit that I know about.

However, I disagree with the idea of removing the controversy element from the page. It's kind of like having the Michael Jackson article without the accusations of child molestation. Whilst a court of law did find Michael Jackson not guilty, the reality is that it did adversely affect his reputation, and that it was newsworthy. Its a similar kind of issue, in my opinion.

Anyway, I thought that I would leave it for at least a week, to see how they sort themselves out. So long as they only use that article, I am sure it will end up looking in top shape. If not, then we've got history and can get things back to how they were.

Warning by anon editor[edit]

This is your last warning. The next time you vandalize a page, you will be blocked from editing Wikipedia. 70.59.23.3 00:47, 10 December 2005 (UTC) Undesserved test4 message removed. xaosflux Talk/CVU 16:10, 17 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Please note, this warning was placed here by user:70.59.23.3 because I continued to revert the blanking he/she did of the warnings on his/her user talk page. - Akamad 01:08, 10 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for reverting my page[edit]

Thanks for reverting my page. The user who posted that is in quite a lengthy war to blank pages for "copyright violations", which I have been fighting back. I've posted a detailed description of the event at the help desk- Essentially he has made several claims of copyright infringement and blanked the associated pages. I've examined each one and either reverted his changes (where there was no evidence) or replaced his crude legal threats with the correct copyvio template. Now he is apparently quite mad at me for the ones which i reverted, although if there was any infringement, i cannot find it. If you are an administrator, I would greatly appreciate you checking into contributions as well, i would love a second opinion on this. Thanks again for saving my user page. - Lanoitarus 05:48, 10 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I am not an admin, so I can't help you there. I did however, also leave a message on his/her userpage stating that he/she should follow the procedure listed on Wikipedia:Copyright problems. And I do believe you did the right thing. - Akamad 05:52, 10 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the vote of confidence :). I think I have not resolved the problem, anyway. Most of the articles were in fact violations, just not of the site he had listed. Should be all set now. Thanks! Just out of curiosity, i noticed that when I left my original comment above, you immediately added the signature i had forgetten- Do you use a script to do that or was that manual? Would be extremely useful if it was a script. (i'll check back here for your response) -Lanoitarus 05:56, 10 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]
It's not a script, just a template: {{Unsigned|Username|08:43, November 24 2005 (UTC)}}, however, you have to put in the username and the time and date in manually. - Akamad 05:59, 10 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Ahhh, thanks. Still a step up. -Lanoitarus 06:01, 10 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Looks like we are having a bit of a double-editing issue going, with both of us making similar reversions in the same minute to Edward_"Punchy"_McLaughlin. End result from both of our reversions was nearly identical though. Thanks again for the help! -Lanoitarus 06:10, 10 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Your comment[edit]

In reply to your comments on my talk page: Thanks very much, this is certainly the largest issue i've dealt with in my time here, and its great to hear positive feedback. The "corel case" is Bridgeman vs Corel, which was brought to my attention by Mwanner. Its is a US district court ruling which basicially established that even if someone puts a bunch of effort/time/money into creating a reproduction of a public domain image, the new reproduction is automatically in the public domain as well unless it involves some sort of artistic originality. This means that the site the mug shots may have been lifted from is irrelevant, since they are reproductions of PD images. Thanks again for the support! -Lanoitarus (talk) .:. 07:10, 12 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Image placement vote[edit]

Hello, it's MegamanZero, and I've gotten into a conflict with the Orgy over his needless image placement and excessive quotes on the Iori Yagami page. So, I've decided to hold a vote (like on the Ryu charaacter page) concerning which version should be used. The vote can be found here. Please vote your opinion on the matter and thanks for your time! -MegamanZero 18:04, 13 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Winning Civilization II in Deity Mode Without Warfare[edit]

(This comment is in reponse to this edit that I did):

I was a little surprised that my tips on winning the game lasted only two minutes before you removed them because you didn't think that is what Wikipedia is for. Those tips are far better than anything I've ever come across on the internet. Where do you feel is a good place for them? the preceding unsigned comment is by 67.191.14.202 (talk • contribs) 02:03, December 26 2005 (UTC)

My reasoning is this: firstly, I believe it is against the policy stated on No Original Research. Secondly, since Wikipedia is an encyclopedia, tips and hints on how to play games don't belong here since they do not belong in an encyclopedia. This article should be about the game, not good ways on how to play it. :-) Akamad 02:07, 26 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]
I suppose my comments could be viewed as original research. Any suggestions on the appropriate place to post them? the preceding unsigned comment is by 67.191.14.202 (talk • contribs) 02:16, December 26 2005 (UTC)
On Wikipedia...I doubt there's a place. Wikibooks might be a better place. Though I haven't really looked around there so I don't know about what you can post and what you can't. - Akamad 02:18, 26 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]
