Diffusing categories[edit]

About edits like this. Both Category:Islands of Indonesia and Category:Populated places in Indonesia are "diffusing". This means that any articles should be placed not directly in those categories but in the relevant subcategories. – Uanfala (talk) 17:16, 2 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

For Batanta, that's Category:Raja Ampat Islands (which via its parent Category:Islands of Western New Guinea is in category tree under Category:Islands of Indonesia). An article about a populated place in the region would sit in Category:Populated places in Raja Ampat. However (and apologies for not pointing this out earlier), Batanta is an article about an island, not a populated place, so it shouldn't be included in any categories about populated places. – Uanfala (talk) 22:33, 4 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hello! Voting in the 2023 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23:59 (UTC) on Monday, 11 December 2023. All eligible users are allowed to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.
