Orphaned category list

Re: this edit, as you yourself can read in the warning box with the large red letters on that page, you have used a template that may not be used in any namespace other than Category space. Please find another way to work from that list, such as a direct link to the category, for example, Category:Orphaned articles. Otherwise, your user page will be sorted into Category:Pages with templates in the wrong namespace, a category that is monitored to try to keep it empty. Be sure to include the leading colon as in [[:Category:Orphaned articles]], because if you leave it out, then the page you put it on will be sorted into the "Orphaned articles" category. Thank you for your help with this cleanup operation! – Paine  17:04, 30 April 2015 (UTC)

Paine can't you tell the template to just not categorize my page or make all the other stuff go away. I really just want the box with all the links to the month year categories. Is there anyone that can fix that for me? 3gg5amp1e (talk) 17:06, 30 April 2015 (UTC)
If that can be done (I don't know), it would probably be a much more complicated process than your working from an already existing category page or pages to do what you want. That's why they exist in the first place. They are there for us to use to monitor pages, clean them up when necessary, and fix problems. We're both trying to do the same type of job – you appear to want to help with the "orphaned-article" backlog, and I have worked on the "pages with templates in the wrong namespace" backlog, which used to be a very large category. Please try to understand that these categories are here for us to use, but not to copy to our user pages, so please link to the categories and not use templates in namespaces in which they are not designed to go. – Paine  17:22, 30 April 2015 (UTC)
  • (talk page stalker) Simply replace the call to the existing template with a call for {{(cat name) progress}}. — {{U|Technical 13}} (etc) 17:41, 30 April 2015 (UTC)
I don't understand. What am I replacing exactly? Technical 13 Paine? 3gg5amp1e (talk) 17:47, 30 April 2015 (UTC)
Thank you, Tech 13, I just did that – finally found the name of the template in the core. Thank you! and Best of everything to you and yours! – Paine  17:51, 30 April 2015 (UTC)

You know, it's funny, 3gg5amp1e – ever since the devs came out with that notification system (the one you used to thank me for this edit), I have wanted to have a similar way to respond with a "You're welcome", but as yet there is no way of doing that using the notification system. So I wanted you to know that it's a pleasure! and I'm glad I could help you find and use the template you needed! Joys! – Paine  19:05, 30 April 2015 (UTC)

Yes, that's the ticket! – Paine  20:28, 30 April 2015 (UTC)
I was saying you should add a comment because the ticket explicitly intends to exclude thanking for thanks/saying you're welcome. — {{U|Technical 13}} (etc) 20:33, 30 April 2015 (UTC)
