Populated place
[edit]Hi. This is in regards to this recent edit of yours.
In our categorization system, the term "Populated place" is roughly equivalent to Human settlement by definition. That is, populated place categories are restricted in scope to cities, towns, villages, etc., but exclude counties, states, provinces, districts, and other entities that would be otherwise commonly understood to be "Populated places".
The people who decided to use this terminology,(see Wikipedia:Categories for discussion/Log/2023 January 15#Category:Buildings and structures in the United States by state and city) never considered how confusing it might be.[1] --DB1729talk 18:35, 31 October 2024 (UTC)

[edit]Before adding a category to an article, as you did to Julia Stone, please make sure that the subject of the article really belongs in the category that you specified according to Wikipedia's categorization guidelines. The category being added must already exist, and must be supported by the article's verifiable content. Categories may be removed if they are deemed incorrect for the subject matter. Thank you. This is the discussion page for an IP user, identified by the user's IP address. Many IP addresses change periodically, and are often shared by several users. If you are an IP user, you may create an account or log in to avoid future confusion with other IP users. Registering also hides your IP address. |
