Monica D Cooper is the author of the short story compilation Letting Go...Almost. This collection focuses around the lives of Lesbians and the struggles these women endure. The stories range from topics about haunting demons of the past controlling the present to domestic violence in relationships. With these struggles come a whirlwind of emotions, secrecy, and stepping into the Lesbian world for the first time.

Monica D Cooper was born in Gastonia, NC (October 17, 1985). She resided both here and Charlotte, NC where her father lived until the age of twelve. During this time she attended Gardner Park and Pleasant Ridge Elementary and York Chester Middle School. Her step-father took a job to Myrtle Beach, SC in 1997. It was here that Monica finished her middle and high school education, graduating from Carolina Forest High School in June 2004. During this time she played basketball as well as participated in her high school step team and prayer group GAP 4 STEP (God Answers Prayer 4 Students who Enjoy Prayer). Following her high school education, Monica did not attend college right away as she returned to Gastonia at age 19 for seven months before joining the United States Air Force.

Monica attended and completed Basic Military Training at Lackland AFB (San Antonio, TX October-November 2005) as well as technical school at Keesler AFB (Biloxi, MS November 2005 - February 2006). Upon completion, she was stationed at Andersen AFB (Guam March 2006 - 2008) where she fulfilled her two year tour of duty. During this time, Monica further practiced her craft of writing by continuing her poetry writing and completed a mini series titled Papi's Spanish. In August 2007, during a basketball practice, Monica injured her right shoulder that would take her out of sports for four and half months. During this time, Monica dove further into writing contemplating the idea of short story writing. In the end, she chose to stick to what she knew and continued with poetry writing. In March 2008, her tour of duty was up at Andersen AFB and Monica relocated to her new duty station of Offutt AFB (Nebraska 2008 - October 2009). This duty assignment landed a deployment opportunity in January 2009. During this time, Moncia served on the Client Support Team servicing squadrons with computer and printer issues around the base. It was actually during this time that Monica began working on one of the short stories in her book Letting Go...Almost. Once she returned to the states, Monica began working on the second short story while finishing her remaining months the Active Duty Air Force. Once October 2009 arrived, Monica agreed to serve two additional years in the Air Force Reserve out of Whiteman AFB Missouri. During this time, the final short story was completed.
