Jason Zephyr Gottes was born 21 August 1985 in Gravesend, Kent to a British mother a Jewish father from Manhattan. He wasborn with a Tetralogy of Fallot, a congenital heart defect for which he endured six open-heart operations before the age of two. Gottes grew up in Gravesend with his mother, and spent summers in New York with his father. After attending Gravesend Grammar School for Girls, Gottes moved to Cardiff, Wales to attend Cardiff University. In 2006, Gottes along with his friends formed Los Campesinos!.
Gottes began dating British actress Gemma Arterton when he was 16. The two broke up in 2007, after six years of dating. He is currently dating Lea Michele.
