Israeli people by ethnic or national descent[edit]

Justification: C2C (45 categories) Good Ol’factory (talk) 11:09, 14 July 2010 (UTC)}}

Objections:

  • Oppose as below. Davshul (talk) 19:07, 15 July 2010 (UTC)
  • Oppose all the above changes relating to Israelis. The word "descent" denotes ethnicity. The Israeli people in question were not ethnic Bulgarian, Poles, Turks, etc. There were generally Jews whose origins were in Bulgaria, Poland, Turkey, etc. I accordingly propose that all these categories be renamed using the basis of "Israeli people of Fooian origin" Davshul (talk) 19:07, 15 July 2010 (UTC)
  • Since my nomination has nothing to do with this issue, would you like to start the full CFD? If you say "no", I don't see why there should be a hold-up for changing "Israelis" to "Israeli people". Good Ol’factory (talk) 23:11, 15 July 2010 (UTC)
  • I disagree. In addition to the fact that the name of the categories (both current and proposed by you), for reasons discussed above, are inappropriate, the principal parent category is Category:Israeli people by ethnic or national origin (note "origin" not "descent"), a factor which elsewhere you and others have indicated is conclusive (but which I believe is not necessarily so). Accordingly, I consider that the changes proposed by me are consistent with the C2C criteria. If necessary, I will proceed to a full CFD discussions, but believe that the matter can be agreed here.Davshul (talk) 16:18, 16 July 2010 (UTC)
  • Agree. This is a logical change. On the issue of descent, how long do people have to live in Iraq to be Iraqi, Bulgaria to be Bulgarian, Greece to be Greek and Germany to be German. To say that the Jews from Germany who immigrated to Israel after the second world war were not Germans is to ignore reality and buy into Hitlers false propaganda. The Babylonian Jews had lived in that land for more than 1500 years. As a cohesive ethnic unit their roots were deeper than those of the surrounding Arabs.John Pack Lambert (talk) 23:20, 16 July 2010 (UTC)

Category:Iraqi Kurds[edit]

Justification: C2C Good Ol’factory (talk) 04:16, 14 July 2010 (UTC)}}

Objections:

  • Oppose. The word "Kurds" is the correct word to describe people who are Kurdish, as it denotes ethnicity. Unlike the other changes proposed, there is no possibility of confusing an ethnic group with the citizens of a particular state. Davshul (talk) 19:07, 15 July 2010 (UTC)
Were you aware that the parent category is Category:Kurdish people, not Category:Kurds? The basis of the nomination is not to correct an error (C2A), it is a C2C. Good Ol’factory (talk) 23:13, 15 July 2010 (UTC)
