Hello, Good-bye (ハローグッバイ, Harōgubbai) is a Japanese visual novel developed and published by Lump of Sugar.[1] Hello, Good-bye was Lump of Sugar's sixth title, officially released on 16th October 2010 after Prism Rhythm was published. The trial edition is rated for all ages, on the other hand, the first press limited edition has an age rating of 18+, due to the game containing several h-scenes. The game's story resolves around the main protagonist, Toubu Kaito, who is actually a secret agent with the ability to experience time loops. [2]

Plot[edit]

Story[edit]

In a distant Japan[3], civil unrest has divided the country into two conflicting governing factions, United provinces of Japan and Japan Federation. As weapons develop, the damage only worsens on the country as a whole. Thus the leader of the two parties agreed to a ceasefire treaty. The treaty, declared on the area Morino, was then named Morino Ceasefire Treaty and has been honored for a hundred years.

Toubu Kaito, or rather the agent undercover, is to infiltrate the neutral grounds Morino and gather intelligence for the United provinces of Japan. Upon arrival, he reports to his school first, Tenshudo Academy. Notified that registration will be tomorrow, he wanders around town to get familiar with the landscape. He ends up at the Morino peace memorial park where he meets a girl.

“Good afternoon. Or rather 'nice to meet you'…hmm I guess technically speaking it should be 'Good evening'? My name is Yukishiro May, how do you do. And you are?”

Taken aback by May’s smile, the agent slipped the “truth” through his words:

“Toubu…Kaito. At least while I am here.”

Little does he know that this reply would change his fate forever.

Main Characters[edit]

Kaito Toubu (東武 カイト, Toubu Kaito)

Kaito Toubu is the main protagonist, and a secret agent undercover whose job is to infiltrate the neutral grounds Morino and gather intelligence for the United provinces of Japan. His training as a soldier enables him to think calmly and rationally about things. He has the ability to see déjà vu’s. His height is 174cm. [4]

May Yukishiro (雪代 メイ, Yukishiro May)
Voiced by: Airi

May Yukishiro is one of the heroines in the story, and the first to be met by Kaito. She is a sweet, kind and sometimes a rather clumsy girl, but tends to be slow at times (especially to intakes like donkan), this is due to her innocent and caring nature. In the beginning May is willing to help Kaito as much as she can, since she is always kind and helpful, especially to uncivilized people. She is oblivious to many things making her a naive person. May is very calm and reserved most of the time. Taking care of flowers seems to be one of her hobbies, as she is first seen by Kaito looking after lilies blooming on a hill. Her route in the game focuses on unraveling the truth about Kaito. Her height is 154 cm. [5]

Suguri Saotome (早乙女 すぐり, Saotome Suguri)
Voiced by: Kujo Shino

Suguri Saotome is also a heroine in the story, the second heroine met by Kaito. She is best friend with May, and is just as kind and helpful as her, but is more of a tomboy. She is an outgoing, high spirited girl despite her tsundere appearance. In the beginning, she accidentally mistakes Kaito for her childhood friend, and then pulverizes him for it. She has a height of 161 cm. [6]

Natsume Rindo (竜胆 棗, Rindo Natsume)
Voiced by: Koyuki

Natsume Rindo is another one of the heroines in the story, and the third heroine to be met by Kaito. In the beginning of the story, she is a transfer student. At first, she seems to be a serious, and simply put, a very well behaved girl, but she is actually an innocent girl who gets embarrassed easily when it comes to things like romance. It is shown that Natsume has an extreme fondness for sweets. She has a height of 165 cm.[7]

Koharu Hiiragi (柊 コハル, Hiiragi Koharu)
Voiced by: Anzumitsu

Koharu Hiiragi is the fourth and final heroine in the story. She is a mysterious, small statured girl who insists she is Kaito's imouto (younger sister). Koharu's favorite food is meat. She is actually quite a bright girl, in both brain and personality. [8]

Minor Characters[edit]

Munenori Iwashimizu (東武 カイト, Iwashimizu Munenori)
Voiced by: Kōta

Munenori Iwashimizu is one of Kaito's classmates. He wears glasses. [9]
