Eryngium prostratum, commonly known as creeping eryngo, is a herbaceous perennial plant in the parsley family native to the United States from eastern Texas to central Florida north to Virginia and Missouri.

Description[edit]

Eryngium prostratum is a small sprawling perennial growing .1 to .8 meters tall. Its leaves vary in shape from linear, oblong, lanceolate, to ovate while they can have either entire or crenate margins. Small rounded, cone-shaped flower clusters form from May through October. When mature, the flowers are blue.

Distribution and Habitat[edit]

Eryngium prostratum is often found growing in low wetlands, moist sandy ditches, roadsides, and bogs. It grows from

Ecology[edit]

Ten species of bees have been recorded using Silphium gracile in Louisiana.[1]

Taxonomy and Phylogeny[edit]

Description and Identification[edit]

Adult Lilioceris cheni are 8-9 mm in length and about 4 mm in width. They either have bright red elytra (Chinese biotype) or tan/orange elytra (Nepalese biotype) with a black thorax, head, abdomen, and legs.

Distribution and Habitat[edit]

Lilioceris cheni has been found in the wild in both Nepal and the Yunnan Province of China. Through its use as a biocontrol agent for air potato, it has been introduced throughout Florida and in coastal regions of Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana, and Texas.

Since L. cheni is dependent on air potato, it is generally found on air potato plants in parks, roadsides, open, and forested habitats.
