Leith Towers is an actor and musician from Auckland, New Zealand. He is best known for playing Derek in Krampus (2015)[1] and James Smith in When We Go To War (2015).[2]
Prior to his acting career, in 2013, he and Nick Armstrong (as a duo called The Steamrollers) participated in the first series of the New Zealand version of the The X Factor. After having successfully made it through the first round by impressing the judges with a cover of Simon and Garfunkel's The Sound of Silence,[3] The Steamrollers were dramatically kicked off during the boot camp episode during a rendition of Michael Jackson's Man in the Mirror after judge Melanie Blatt interrupted them midway through the song, saying "It's all very well having a laugh and being funny and stuff, but ... it would be nice if you could still sing" and accused them of "taking the mickey out of the whole process;" Stan Walker then told them to "walk off now" and labelled their indifferent attitude as "shocking". After being kicked off the show, he found work at a Denny's restaurant.[4].
