JR Aquino[edit]

JR Aquino (born in c. 1988) is a Filipino American singer, songwriter and Internet celebrity from Anchorage, Alaska. He became famous through his covers on YouTube. In 2005, he took part in the fourth season of American Idol making to Top 44. He returned in 2012 to audition for third season of the The Voice becoming one of the 64 finalists as part of Team Cee Lo.

Career[edit]

JR Aquino also known as JRA, J.R.A. and djkeeno started singing in Anchorage music venues.

American Idol

In 2005, he applied for the fourth season of American Idol reaching the Top 44 Hollywood rounds. However he was dropped from the following line-up of Final 24 contestants.

Online fame

He became very popular through the YouTube videos that he posted on his own channel being mainly interpretations and rearrangements of well-known hits. He collaborated with a great number of YouTube artists, becoming a YouTube personality in his own right. He composed his own song "By Chance (You and I)" that had got over 5 million views the week he auditioned. The song became subject of many more interpretations by other online artists. He has also been part of the charity Music Speaks.

Part of YTF Legacy

He joined the formation YTF[1] (standing for Yesterday, Today, Forever),[2] touring many cities in USA and Canada in 2011. In 2012, a slightly changed line-up with the formation renamed YTF Legacy engaged in a second organized multi-city tour. YTF Legacy has included at various times artists JR Aquino, Andrew Garcia, Dominic Sandoval (aka D-Trix), Ryan Higa, Victor Kim, KevJumba, Chester See and Timothy DeLaGhetto.

The Voice[edit]

Starting September 17, 2012, JR Aquino appeared as a contestant on NBC's reality talent show The Voice. The show features a group of contestants competing for a $100,000 grand prize and a Universal Republic recording contract. In his audition, Aquino sang the Bruno Mars hit "Just the Way You Are". Three of the four judges on the show, Christina Aguilera, Cee Lo Green and Adam Levine hit the "I Want You" button. He eventually picked Cee Lo Green as his mentor, becoming part of Team Cee Lo.[3] In the Battle Round on October 8th, 2012, his coach Cee Lo Green paired him with Peruvian teammate and finalist Diego Val. They both sang "Jessie's Girl" by Rick Springfield. After the performance, Val was chosen by Green to move on to the next round. With none of the other coaches willing to steal him, Aquino was eliminated from the competition.
