? Primary Sources - Should sourced external links be removed and replaced by a primary source wher ethis can found. I note that most of the articles with media sources that refer to legislation or other official communications have media and not press releases or links to the actual documentaion which is mostly available on-line (in the UK)

Also, I removed a link to a website for an organisation and substituted a wiki article that has the same link. What is the recommended action?

I think you should just add the sources in without removing any. In the article body, it is always better to wikilink than external link. Sound good? Sasquatch t|c 15:56, 21 May 2006 (UTC)

Help

[edit]

I created page 'Sir Alan Green' a while ago. Can this be deleted please - I put a redirect on but this seems redundant as the name was simply incorrect

Brendan McFarlane

[edit]

Hi, well done on contirubing some good bio articles. A couple of things re the McFarlane artilce.

I've read, I think in Pete Taylor's "Provos" that McFarlane joined the IRA as a result of the August 1969 riots. I don't have the book to hand right now, but I think this is accurate.

Re the 1976 attack, if you have some info about why this attack was carried out, you should include it, as with the previous point, context is important. It is recorded by the CAIN website that the IRA killed over 90 Protestants in openly sectarian attacks in 1974-76, a time which republicans see as a particularly low point in the conduct of their campaign.

Re Republican movement, its a very widely used temr on all sides, and its important to have at least some explanation of who Sinn Fein actually are in the article.

Cheers, Jdorney 10:48, 12 June 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for the feedback. Riots - If we could get this claim and the ref then I'd agree with an update.

Re 76 attack - I would agree context here is important. The attack is claimed as either an attack on the S'hill butchers or alternatively a sectarian attack on the p'tant bar. However, Cain lists one of the victims as UVF but the rest were not... In short things are disputed. I'll try and find a decent source for the claim this was an attack on the LVF. If you have some sourced Cain type stuff about the sectarian attacks at the time I agree this would benefit the article. Together with the Hansard link that should cover all the claims I think..?

Re Republican movement. OK, I see your point. I'll reinstate. 11:33, 12 June 2006 (UTC)

I've had another go, with sources this time. See what you think at Brendan McFarlane. Jdorney 12:35, 12 June 2006 (UTC)

Its amazing how many spelling mistakes you can miss, isn't it? Even after you read the article two or three times! Keep up the good work, Jdorney 10:53, 19 June 2006 (UTC)

Ulster

[edit]

All of Northern Ireland is in Ulster but not all of Ulster is in Northern Ireland. As I'm sure you know, Cavan, Monaghan and Donegal are Ulster counties but not in NI. Don't be so quick to assume POV. Are you happy with the current wording? Jdorney 12:48, 10 July 2006 (UTC)

Britishness

[edit]

It is an irrelavent viewpoint WP:POV. I could find official statistics to prove Scotland subsidises England, but that is my viewpoint. What has Scotland and its tax revenue got to do with Britishness? Globaltraveller 21:55, 14 September 2006 (UTC)

Recent edits to Provisional IRA members' pages

[edit]

Hi, I don't think your recent spate of categorisation is entirely POV. Almost all of the people you placed in Category:People convicted on terrorism charges are/were members of the Provisional IRA and many have served jail sentences for it. Very few, if any, were actually charged with "terrorism", but with specific offences. "Terrorism" is a very subjective and contested term and I don't think you're serving Wikipedia well by your actions. The problem with the term is its limitlessness. Where does the categorisation end? Nelson Mandela was also convicted of "terrorist" offences.

I think your inclusion of the Maguire Seven is particularly despicable considering that they have been completely exonerated by the British judicial system.

I also note that not one loyalist has attracted your attention. Even had they, I'd still oppose their categorisation as terrorists.--Damac 20:21, 18 September 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for the feedback - Please note that I did NOT include the Maguire Seven in the category and that I've not assigned this category to all of those listed in this category. The PIRA are a proscribed organisation who have killed mainly civilians and police and so are very widely regarded as terrorists. I would support this categorisation for loyalist and all other terrorists, {nice little project for someone). If you don't like the category, there is a page to suggest deletion rather than making less than subtle insinuations of partiality. 20:52, 18 September 2006 (UTC)
Apologies for claiming that you added the Maguires to the category, you clearly didn't. Damac 06:45, 19 September 2006 (UTC)
