ZVT SPU-800' (S'ystem'P'orderingU'dai) was a minicomputer developed and manufactured in the 1970s by Závody výpočtovej techniky (ZVT) in Banská Bystrica.[1] [2]

Background[edit]

The computer was assembled from TTL circuits, the actual processor was on a total of 5 cards (DEK,CAZ,ALJ,PRC,LGP). The internal signals of the processor were connected to the front panel (RPL) with buttons for entering instructions and seven-segment LED displays to show the PC and ACC registers. Connected to the processor was a ROM (referred to as P1K, usually populated with only 128 bytes for the bootloader), one or more RAM cards (referred to as P4K, usually populated with the full possible 4KB capacity), and peripheral cards to connect other devices such as:

  • SDP to connect the FS 1501 punch tape reader
  • SDS to connect an ARITMA 2050 punched label scanner
  • DDP to connect the DT 105 S punched tape punch
  • KLV to connect CONSUL 259.1 keyboard
  • MTL for connection of a DZM 180 mosaic printer
  • MTS to connect a CONSUL 2111 serial printer
  • ZPD to connect the ZPD 1200 data transfer device
  • DPR to connect the alphanumeric display unit AZJ 6416 (with CONSUL keyboard)
  • MPP to connect the CM 5300 tape memory.
  • SKP,RKP to connect KPP800
  • "TP8 communication board" (UART)

The SPU-800 served as the basis for the development of the 8-bit TNS computers and the ZVT SP830 computer, both with the U880 processor.

ZVT SP830[edit]

ZVT SP830

The ZVT SP830 was an 8-bit computer with a U880 processor, using a peripheral bus almost compatible with the ZVT SPU-800 system. This allowed existing peripherals of the ZVT SPU-800 to be connected to the computer. The computer was heavily inspired by the western TRS-80 computer. The computer consisted of the following cards:

  • CPU - U880D processor card
  • RAM - 48kB DRAM
  • EPROM14K - EPROM type memory
  • DSP - display card connected to Telsa Orava AZJ-416
  • KLV - keyboard connection card
  • MGF - tape recorder connection card
