Ehasz (surname) Origin of the Ehasz Name in the United States. new article content ...
Growing up I was told I was the last Ehasz boy and if I didn't have any son's the name would die. That was true in my immediate family where my only Uncle had two daughters. But when online whitepages came about I was surprised to find 63 other Ehasz names in the United States.
Someone with the same last name asked my daughter if they were related. Since I do not know for sure I think it is time to find out.
This is a work in progress...
My great grandfather Benjamin Ehasz was born in Hungary with the surname Ihász. Ehasz is the Americanized version because in Hungarian I sounds like EE. In old hungarian records this is also compared to Juhász because they mean the same exact thing in Hungarian, sheepherder. But they do not sound the same.
Also in Hungarian records there seems to be mixed Ihász and Jhász as if the I and J are mingled. This is something I may need help in decoding.
