The Pagan Lord is a novel based in the 9th century Anglo-Saxon kingdoms Mercia and Northumbria. It is the seventh book in Bernard Cornwell's Saxon Stories. It continues the story of Saxon warlord Uhtred of Bebbanburg who keeps fighting against yet another a new Danish conquest plot.

Uthred finds himself expelled from East Anglia because he accidently killed a bishop while trying to keep his son from becoming a Christian priest. With a small band of warriors left to him, Uthred heads North to try to recapture his father's fortress Bebbanburg, which is hold by his treachorous uncle. Uthred later finds out about another great Danish scheme to crush the Saxon kingdoms of Britain and tries to foil the plan by bringing war into the rear of the Danish army.
