Gatherings[edit]

Anchor Gaslamp meets all but the last Sunday of the month in the heart of downtown San Diego's Gaslamp Quarter. Until this past year they met at a nightclub is called Minus-1 (part of The Keating Hotel located on the corner of 5th & F St.) but have since moved upstairs to a larger room in The Keating. On the other Sundays, the Community joins together for Anchor in Action which are mission-driven events all over the city, with the sole purpose of "not just going to church, but being the church." These Sundays have ranged in activities from homeless barbecues to delivering truckloads of donated goods to orphanages and women's recovery homes in Baja California.

The larger community is made up of other smaller communities that meet throughout the week. These communities are the heart and soul of Anchor Gaslamp. All other meetings, services, or mission-events are derived out of these communities. There are several of these missional communities that meet all over Downtown San Diego.

History[edit]

The Church began as a Bible study (Christian) in 2007 under the direction of Pastors Karlton Edison and Vince Larson. During this time the Bible study met all over Downtown San Diego area, jumping around from restaurants to hotels to coffee houses until its first Sunday Gathering on Easter, 2008.

Doctrine[edit]

Anchor Gaslamp's doctrinal view would be in alignment with the Nicene Creed with an emphasis on the power of God's indwelling Spirit in people's lives (see section 4.2 under Holy Spirit). For a more detailed look at its doctrinal and practical beliefs visit their website.

Leadership[edit]

For the sake of accountability and authenticity, Anchor Gaslamp took on a Biblically-based eldership model. The two founding pastors are Karlton Edison and Vince Larson.

Karlton Edison, a native San Diegan, graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Theology from Christian Life College in 2004. Since then he has attended Bethel Theological Seminary (The San Diego-based campus of Bethel University (Minnesota) ) where he is working toward his Master’s Degree in Theology. After receiving his ministerial license in January, 2007, Karlton joined the United States Air Force as a lieutenant, where he plans to become a licensed chaplain as soon as his Master’s Program is completed. He was recently engaged to Kristen Nation.

Vince and Nancy Larson have been married for seven years and have served as Administrative Pastor and assistant for three years at a large church in town. After beginning Anchor Gaslamp, Vince began teaching high school at a local private school for a day job. Vince received his ministerial license in January 2007. He is actively attending college and working towards a double major in Psychology and Communications. They have two children, Lillian Marie and Ivan Nathaniel.
