License tagging for Image:LakeviewCollegeNotts.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:LakeviewCollegeNotts.jpg. Wikipedia gets thousands of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

This is an automated notice by OrphanBot. If you need help on selecting a tag to use, or in adding the tag to the image description, feel free to post a message at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. 23:09, 13 February 2007 (UTC)

Daddy![edit]

Hello. You should should be on the Panto wiki not here! Oh and is wikipedia meant to have a ] in it, on your userpage?

Unspecified source for Image:LakeviewCollegeNotts.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:LakeviewCollegeNotts.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, then you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, then their copyright should also be acknowledged.

As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self-no-disclaimers}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as {{Non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 16:31, 26 February 2007 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Fang Aili talk 16:31, 26 February 2007 (UTC)

Re:Ben Franklins School[edit]

Thanks for the quick response on Ben Franklin! Yes, I'm the one who updated the Wikiproject Schools project banner to incorporate Class and Importance ratings. Putting "WPSchools" in {{}} is the same thing as leaving class and importance blank: "WPSchools|class=|importance=" In this case, the template places the article in Category:Unassessed school articles, Category:Unassessed-importance school articles, and shows messages about assessment.

Putting "WPSchools|class=start|importance=low" in the {{}} gives the article both a Class and Importance. In this case, the article is placed in Category:Start-Class school articles, Category:Low-importance school articles, and its ratings are displayed. The full usage explanation can be found with the project banner: {{WPSchool}}

As an official WikiProject assessment, a Wikipedia:Version 1.0 Editorial Team bot automatically keeps track of the articles with this template. That's how we get WikiProject Schools articles by quality, WikiProject Schools articles by importance, and that nice looking statistics table: Wikipedia:Version_1.0_Editorial_Team/WikiProject_Schools_articles_by_quality_statistics

As far as adding the banner to pages that don't have it, that's exactly what we want to do. Putting the project banner on an article, whether you give it a rating or not, places it in the proper Wikiproject School categories and the bot will add it to the tally. So add away!!!

If you have any more questions or suggestions about the project banner, please let me know. Best wishes, --Jh12 01:29, 7 March 2007 (UTC)

Chilwell article[edit]

Hi there!

I've started reworking the Chilwell page a bit. It's in my sandbox for now... what do you think?

I've added a few bits as well as an infobox, and I plan to add more soon. Feel free to edit and add whatever you want...

Tom H 01:32, 7 March 2007 (UTC)

Hi looks much better ..... Criticism .... (Ive joined the schools project so I now "know") Infobox tick BAC3 Good, but tell people what it is before giving them a click to find out more. Nice way to show the other schools red links! Missing is

1. Logo (Problem is to get a provably copyright free one) 2. Some Pictures

I think that we have a "Start" article now. A "B" is some way off. Take a look at Westminster School to see what a B looks like. However we have the best page in the area as far as I can see. Well done. Do we know any sporty types who could "boast" about our achievemements.

Fancy bits ..... can ayone write a stub in French or Thai? Victuallers 13:03, 7 March 2007 (UTC)

PS 300 edits ... wimp :-) But you have been vandalised!

I've got a logo I made in Adobe Illustrator for the yearbook last year, so I'll upload that as my own work and put that in... I'll see about pictures, too.
Not sure about sports stuff, I know there are some but I don't know details.
I could do short french and spanish stubs... not thai though!

And it's almost 400 edits now (395)... still wimpy but a little better! ;) Tom H 16:43, 7 March 2007 (UTC)
Just went live with the changes, I've put a logo on and added info on BAC3. See what you think and make any changes you want. I'll try adding more over the next few weeks or so. Tom H 22:31, 7 March 2007 (UTC)

Your Chilwell note on my talk page[edit]

Sorry for being too enthusiastic. The article was once deleted completely by the upper admin because of complaints from the school's administration. I was able to get it reinstated with the provision that I'd watch it like a hawk. I certainly appreciate the need to help newbies, but a comments in informal language about a club that meets on Friday isn't exactly encyclopedic (note that I didn't say "vandalism" in my edit summary). I guess the message that should be communicated to newbies is that edits to an article on a local school should be no less "formal" and encyclopedic than edits to a FA article such as Titanic or George Washington. Again, sorry for stepping on toes. Akradecki 16:38, 9 March 2007 (UTC)

Page blanking[edit]

Have you seen the Chilwell page now? Do they have the right to do that?! Tom H 14:35, 19 March 2007 (UTC)

St. Johnsbury Academy[edit]

I just looked at your comments at Talk:St. Johnsbury Academy. I concur with them generally. However, I did not understand your "controversy" comment. What did that pertain to? If anything, the article completely lacks controversy. It could use a little more! Could you expand your comments on that topic alone while it is fresh in your mind? Since no one requested a rating, the article clearly not being ready for one, maybe this was intended for another school? Thanks for your comments.Student7 22:21, 7 March 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for your update.
The second part of the question though, is why we received a rating at all? We never asked for an evaluation. We have never had a logo like Talk:Champlain Valley Union High School. All of the sudden, boom, we are weighed in the balance and found wanting! Just when we least expected it! We need more time! I don't want to erase a perfectly valid evaluation, but why do we have to be evaluated at this point? Thanks.Student7 00:11, 10 March 2007 (UTC)

Barnstar[edit]

Thank you and I'm flatterred both for the imaginary barnstart and the "Working man's barnstart" but can you even do that? Wow. Adam McCormick 00:52, 11 March 2007 (UTC)

The imaginary bit was in reference to a a comment you made on my talk page before you gave me the real barn star, anyhoe, thanks again! Adam McCormick 17:29, 12 March 2007 (UTC)

Aquinas College, Perth[edit]

If you look at the talk page Pheonix 2 assessed the article and gave it a GA ratin, that is why i reverted, because the other user said that it hadnt been assesed when it had, but he had good faith. SMBarnZy 22:25, 12 March 2007 (UTC)

Well, i just look at earlier revisions to see when it was added, if it was added with no other supporting documentation, i generally revert it, unless i think the rating is somewhat correct. But, remember to be careful when reverting, and also to discuss it with the person who changed the article's grade, because if you change their descision without any justification it can get pretty heated. Thanks for the wiki-msg SMBarnZy 08:32, 14 March 2007 (UTC)

Westminster School[edit]

I dont think that this article is A-Class, which it appears that you changed it to from B-Class, my major reasoning for this is that the article is lacking quite largely in the references section. Some of the article needs to be cleaned up slightly, and that is why i would give this article a B-Class rating, feel free to discuss this with me on my talk page if you disagree. I am going to change the article to B-Class. SMBarnZy 10:46, 13 March 2007 (UTC)

The Working Man's Barnstar

Derby School alumni[edit]

Thank you, Victuallers, I found some Old Derbeians, some of them already here on Wikipedia and some others. My approach was to Google "at Derby School" and "at Derby Grammar School", including the quotation marks.

I started new pages for Lawrence Beesley and Edward James (martyr) this afternoon. I have also created a new category, Old Derbeians, and rewritten parts of the Derby School article - you may be able to improve on my efforts there.

with kind regards,

Conard High School[edit]

Thanks for the assessment of Conard High School. Did you mean to mark it as lacking an infobox? Also, what is the one critical element that could get it to B-class? Λυδαcιτγ 17:30, 18 March 2007 (UTC)

I fixed this on the talk page. Adam McCormick 19:43, 18 March 2007 (UTC)

Derbyshire Schools[edit]

Thanks, I've added the other schools to the template.

Pleased with Derby School, looking rather better.

Nottinghamshire Schools[edit]

I've created the template and added it to the schools' pages.

I wasn't sure which category to put New College, Nottingham, into - you can click on the purple title at the head of the template to go to the page to edit. Xn4 00:56, 23 March 2007 (UTC)

Unblock[edit]

Not sure why I have been blocked. I have been on about a 100 school pages today assessing the pages for "schools project". I suspect someone has seen my signature below an assessment and assumed it is just vandalism rather than a signature for the change made. Can you please unblock me so I can continue? Evidence ... see Barnstar on this page

Pilotguy mistakened you blocked you for less than a minute according to your block log, but somehow you managed to trigger the autoblocker before he could unblock you. All fixed now and apologies for any inconvenience caused. --  Netsnipe  ►  18:31, 24 March 2007 (UTC)

Dame Alice Owen's School[edit]

Hi! Sorry, I'm really bad at rating things like this :-( removed half-sentence, since I see you're quite familiar with wikiproject schools!I don't really know anything about this school: I just came across the article when hunting a vandal. However, I can say that it needs some sources. If it does as well as the article suggests, there should be some (local) newspaper articles on it. Skittle 17:56, 26 March 2007 (UTC)

I've just added functionality to the template to change name within all the categories it adds to the talk page. By using the "page" parameter you can now set the name used within all those categories. Cheers. Adam McCormick 07:40, 30 March 2007 (UTC)

Cheadle Hulme School[edit]

Hi. Thank you for evaluating the Cheadle Hulme School article. I am glad that you found it strong in many areas, but was surprised to see that you said it lacked an alumni section. There is such a section headed "notable Old Waconians". You also suggested that it could do with some references. I have tried to add references to as many areas of the article as possible now. I was wondering whether in light of this it would be possible for you to re-assess the article, and if you still do not consider it B-Class to explain what further would be needed to get it up to this class. Thank you in advance. TomPhil 23:11, 30 March 2007 (UTC)

Hi. Many thanks for your quick response to my message and your re-evaluation of the Cheadle Hulme School article. TomPhil 23:46, 30 March 2007 (UTC)

The Springfield College & The Lakes College - External Links and Sorting[edit]

[[Category:]]Hi There:

Your (current) contributions to Wikipedia appear to be to assess and add/amend links to Schools throughout the world - a worthy task.

On 26th March, you changed all external links for The Springfield College from "T" to "S" and for the The Lakes College from "T" to "L".

On the same day I changed them back, only to have you on the 31st March again change (only) The Springfield College - and I've again reverted your change today (1st April).

Please be advised that the correct (and full Registered) name of the schools are The Springfield College and The Lakes College.

You've also done similar sorting changes to some (but not all) other schools that have "The" as part of their name - with some you've been correct, with others I hink you've been wrong, and with some - like The King's School, Canterbury which you've decided should come under "K" - I'm not sure what is correct ;-). On their website, in general text they refer to themselves colloquially as "Kings", but for their full name, they formally show The King's School.

PS: I am aware (and agree) that in certain contexts (e.g. cataloging books in libraries), very common words (such as articles) at the beginning of a sequence of words are not considered for ordering, or are moved to the end, but this should not be the case for legal entities (as it is with these two private schools).

I've also read Wikipedia:Categorization and believe these to be an exception.

Pkortge 08:45, 1 April 2007 (UTC)

Category sorting[edit]

Hi there, I notice from your edit to The Hutchins School you aren't aware of the {{DEFAULTSORT}} tag - see Help:Category#Default sort key for more. -- Chuq 14:20, 2 April 2007 (UTC)

The Preuss School UCSD[edit]

Hi. You recently assessed the Preuss School as a start-level article. I am the primary contributor to the article and today added some information on Athletics at the school. With this, I was wondering what the article needs to be a B-class article and looking down the road, how can I approve the article in general? I know the referencing is thin, but there is little to reference for many of my statements. At any rate, thanks in advance for the help. Cheers, User:SorryGuy 00:09, 5 April 2007 (UTC)

Following a request from Victuallers, the article has been reassessed to B class. The article can reach GA class or higher with more references and expansion. Camaron1 | Chris 18:43, 5 April 2007 (UTC)

WiKID Daryl's answer lol[edit]

haha not too sure why im afraid, but from my memories it was just a mere spelling error that created the variation, like the variations you get in surnames .

I couldn't say which one is genuine. It is very hard to determine what was the original, as neither are! The earlier known version of the name was 'Forte Mark', recorded in some directories.

It could be that, upon completion of the estate, Sir Robert Burdett 4th Bart. decided Foremarke was more elegant and 'French or latin-like' than Foremark, just a speculation! ROFL.

again forgot my signature..........

And why am i lucky? whats on ur talk page here? Is there a ref source?

The schoolboxes[edit]

No, I am not...(thank you for the compliment, by the way) I am just doing some work on schools in areas where I have lived and know a little information about. I'll add other information as I have time. I found the boxes in Loudoun County Public Schools high schools area. I did not design them myself. I just like the easy functionality they have. Wilson's School[edit]

Hello, thanks for the assessment for Wilson's School - a pile of pictures have since been added, plus improved references, an infobox and a larger and more impressive number of Old Boys. Perhaps you could have another look? Parmesan 14:54, 8 April 2007 (UTC)

Great! Thanks for bumping Wilson's School to B status. I am working on the article with the Wilson's School webmaster (and one of my old teachers, for that matter). I look forward to getting it bumped up further - the school really deserves it. Interestingly enough, I have noticed that there has been no vandalism since I started working on the page - it looks like the kids have been reminded of the remarkable history of the school and have taken it in. Template:WPSchoolsAssessment[edit]

If the article already has an infobox, please include:

needs-infobox=no

into the template, as this will cause the infobox needed to turn off. When using that template, that parameter defaults to "yes." I mention this because as I'm going through the ones that have an infobox but are still listed in "Infobox needed", the first 7 I've done were all assessed by you. Keep up the good work though. Hi Victuallers, I noticed your comment at Year-round school. Yes, I have unfortunately found myself in the midst of a silly and trivial edit-fight. Your comment helped bring me to my senses. I have been constructively contributing to WikiProject Schools for some time. How can I help with "Assessment"? It might help distract me from the otherwise futile attempt to keep the year-round school article intact and unbiased. You can reach me at my talk page... Nimur 06:54, 20 April 2007 (UTC)

You may consider using the comment system when noting why an article was graded a certain way.. for an example, see Talk:W. W. I don't know where you stand with WP Schools or wikimarkup... but I'd certainly consider adding comment functionality to the WP School template. -- drumguy8800 C T 06:51, 8 May 2007 (UTC)

Clayhall High School, Ohio[edit]

I've had a look at this article and made a few suggestions and given them some further encouraging comments. I think the article probably merits a B. I've upgraded the Indian school to top importance as agreed - according to the criteria an article of top importance is one which you would expect to be included in an encyclopaedia and this school qualifies as it is part of Indian history. Dahliarose 23:57, 22 May 2007 (UTC)

La Martiniere Lucknow[edit]

I've added a note to the Assessment page to advise that the rating has now been bumped up to top importance. You're doing a brilliant and most worthwhile job with all these assessments. Like you I think it's particularly important to have a good spread of international school articles, some of which, as we have seen, can be absolutely fascinating. We seem to have far too many American schools and not enough from the rest of the world at present! All the good work you are doing with the assessments will give the international schools a much higher profile. I was hoping to do a few assessments but keep getting sidetracked working on other pages! Keep up the good work! Dahliarose 23:28, 23 May 2007 (UTC)

Emmington[edit]

I don't know if it is intentional, but the article on Emmington refers to Towersey in the opening statement. This seems confusing, perhaps you could clarify? Regards LittleOldMe 09:45, 25 May 2007 (UTC)

Re: Dalriada School[edit]

In response to you comment on my talk page,
I'll try - I went to the school, but owing to the fact league tables aren't published in Northern Ireland, it's quite hard to obtain 3rd party evidence of how the school compares to other schools. No doubt the results are good, but without knowing the results of the other schools, it's hard to draw comparisons. I'll have a looksies anyway and see what I can dredge up :) Mouse Nightshirt | talk 15:08, 25 May 2007 (UTC)

In Line Referencing[edit]

Vicuallers, thanks for the welcome! I hope this is where I am allowed to add a response? I am a little unsure what you mean about "In Line Referencing". I have looked for example at Wilson's School and see that some references take you straight to the website etc, where as some take you to the reference section where there is a link to the site. Is the first type an "in line reference"? Thanks for your help! Never knew how complex WP was till I started trying to help!! - McKDandy 23:50, 26 May 2007 (UTC)

  • Hey, Don't worry, i'm still about. I've been working a little more on the Skinners' website, and trying to find some referenceable proof to shoe the lyrics of the school song are out of copyright. I have also been working on a few other schools (just little stuff). However, I am also a part of WikiKent, and am developing a number of new pages there so my time is split! Plus I have a small matter of finals to do :p Not quite sure I understood your in-line referencing example, but am having a scout around to look for other examples to learn from! Thanks for the concern tho! --McKDandy 14:58, 29 May 2007 (UTC)
    • Hey, me again. I think i've figured out the referencing thing...so if you have time, would you mind having a quick check? The Skinners' School. Thanks --McKDandy 15:31, 29 May 2007 (UTC)

RE: Assessing schools[edit]

I'm really sorry for my late reply. It's just that I was busy with my mid-year exams and what not.

Unfortunately, I don't have a real reference that ACS is the oldest school in Klang and Selangor. The only credible and real reference that I actually have is my school's notice board (I study at ACS Klang). To make matters worse, ACS Secondary Klang does not have an actual website. ACS Primary formerly had a website, but now, it has ceased to exist without further notice. I wholly agree on your statement that "we" have no great articles on a Malaysian school and we are looking for an editor. I would love to be an editor on Malaysian schools, but I can only be one until the end of June 2007. After that, I will be having a monthly test and may not visit Wikipedia very frequently. However, I will be free during the 3rd quarter of July and 1st half of August. Thank you. Acs4b 18:57, 28 May 2007 (UTC)

Anon Comment Re: Assessing Schools dated June 2007[edit]

Hi, I have just been having a look at some of the assessments of the importance of the schools. Some of it does not appear logical. One can understand Eton being rated high. But then Ampleforth College (regarded as Britain's most important Catholic School - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ampleforth_College ) is of low importance while St. Anne's-Belfield School is of mid importance. To take another example why is Thomas Telford School (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thomas_Telford_School) rated mid importance when 10 miles away Adams Grammar School is rated (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Adams_Grammar_School) is rated low.

=== reply ===

I'm confused by the anonymous edit above. Can someone give their name or some idea of who you are. I feel as if I am talking to nobody. Can you open a wikipedia account so we can talk properly? However if you are expecting logic then I will fall far short ... this is subjective and flawed Victuallers 22:04, 6 June 2007 (UTC)

Ilam[edit]

Since when was Ilam in Derbyshire??? (Or to put it another way, what's that girt great black-dashed line doing down the River Dove on getamap - it's been there a few years too) Bob aka Linuxlad 14:39, 5 June 2007 (UTC)

Isn't it the 'post town' problem? The post town is Ashbourne, and that IS in Derbyshire. (We've got a similar one near us - The prisons at Leyhill are always described by the National Press as being in Gloucestershire because the 'post town' is Wotton in Glos. But the Glos police don't go anywhere near the place, rather it's Avon and Somerset's patch).

In days of yore (The Maude report on local government areas of the late 60s) lots of these Staffs areas around the Manifold _were_ due to go into Derbyshire (and very nice too - as I used to say 'some of the nicest bits of Derbyshire are in Staffordshire :-)) - and Bleaklow was due to go into another new area (together with some people) called SELNEC - but neither change happened.

I think the NT are just being 'administratively convenient' in in saying 'Derbyshire' cos it sounds less 'Black Country' than Staffs - but I'm 90% sure I'm right.

Oh, yes, Stenson - got a couple of pics of the marina area , but may need a bit of fiddling.

Whitgift School[edit]

You said: In progress. But see if you can do this[1] Victuallers 19:55, 5 June 2007 (UTC)

What do you mean by this? Do you mean add refs? --Samtheboy (t/c) 20:25, 5 June 2007 (UTC)
And did you edit the References section to find where the source text was? Victuallers 20:27, 5 June 2007 (UTC)
I'm sorry, I'm a bit confused as to what you are asking. If you mean do I know how to do refs, then yes I do and will do so. If you aren't saying that then I'm confused! --Samtheboy (t/c) 20:29, 5 June 2007 (UTC)
I had looked at the school page and the main problem to getting a better grade was lack of refs. I assumed the problem might be education required so I left the cryptic guide. If you can create a ref on that school page then it may show others what is required Victuallers 20:37, 5 June 2007 (UTC)
Thanks for the input, will start adding refs now. --Samtheboy (t/c) 20:40, 5 June 2007 (UTC)
Do the refs warrant an upgrade to B or is there more needed. Also do you know how to remove the "This school needs an infobox" thing from the wikischools project box on the talk page? --Samtheboy (t/c) 21:02, 5 June 2007 (UTC)
There is more .... the text is a bit light as for instance you cover a lot of time in few words in your history... however I have to move to other work. Oh and the info box is a bug I can fix, Can someone get a camera?
Thanks for the help. I'll email the school to see if they will send me any free licence images (I'm an old boy and live 200 odd miles away, I'd need a very big lens!) Will also get to work on the history section at some point. --Samtheboy (t/c) 21:10, 5 June 2007 (UTC)

Assessments and Defaults[edit]

When I moved in the other template it changed the default, I'm going to fix it so that unassessed ratings will turn it off, It may just be a few hours. The only way to do it automatically is to write a bot that could do a word and reference count. I could write the logic but I'm not familiar with the language and rules for bots so it'd take a few days. Adam McCormick 23:08, 5 June 2007 (UTC)

I'm in the midst of proposing and writing a bot to place the "needs-infobox" parameter on school articles. The bot is called BoxCrawler and I would appreciate your input on the "need" for such a bot. Adam McCormick 04:01, 27 June 2007 (UTC)

buckingham browne & nichols[edit]

Hi! I've added more content, references and pictures to the Buckingham Browne & Nichols article per your requests. I'm wondering what steps might be in order for me to bring it to the next level? I'm considering segregating it into sections on each campus, and adding more history, (there is a book about BB&N's history written in the 80s I believe, and I can look it up in addition to old Vanguard issues) but I would welcome any feedback!

Oh, one more thing: I'm not sure of the proper procedure or guidelines for creating disambiguation pages, but I'm wondering if one might be appropriate for the Buckingham School. There are already two Buckingham Schools on wikipedia, not counting that which later merged with B&N; especially since folks like Sylvia Poggioli went to it, perhaps one should exist?

Best,

Schools Class[edit]

Hello. Thanks for the comment re the addition to Whitgift. I am intending to make sure that all the relevant schools are linked in. In fact, I have just got to Repton! Very good, I note that you have updated it. The picture is an excellent addition by the way. I have just added a little detail about it being owned by the North Yorkshire Moors Railway (I have also referenced this).

I am also looking at the Victoria Crosses won by the various public schools (as well as George Crosses). If you know of any info I would be grateful to receive it.

La Martiniere Lucknow[edit]

We've done a brilliant job between the two of us! I was just wondering what to do about the infobox. I wonder if it needs two separate boxes, one for the girls school and one for the boys. I'd like to get rid of the directory info at the beginning and all the telephone numbers but couldn't work out what to do with it all. I've got to go out now so it's over to you!!! Dahliarose 16:10, 22 June 2007 (UTC)

Not at all! I'm supposed to be getting on with other things but keep thinking of more bits and pieces to add to the article. It's such a fascinating subject. I suggest we leave the girls for someone else to sort out. They might eventually merit a separate article but we don't seem to have anything on the girls at the moment to justify it. I've discovered that the original text for the history section was in fact lifted from the website Old Martinians' Association website. Click on schools and then click on Martinian Boys and I think you will recognise it. It's all looking really good now, but I think the teachers and alumni could do with a bit of re-organisation. Perhaps we could use the website as a reference? Dahliarose 15:25, 23 June 2007 (UTC)
Thanks for sorting out the alumni. You've done a great job. I was trying to sort out the duplicate reference but got in a muddle. Do you have any idea how to fix it? References 1 and 3 are identical and should really be combined. Dahliarose 18:47, 23 June 2007 (UTC)
Thanks for taking on the references. I wasn't sure if the article met the criteria for Did you know. It would be an ideal candidate but although we've made significant changes I'm not sure that what we've done qualifies. Have a look at the What did you know page and see what you think. I'm happy to compile a few lines if you think we can qualify. I've asked the India project to give the article an assessment and I've also requested an assessment at WikiProject Architecture. Before we put the article forward for peer review I'd like to just make a few more changes as I've found some more material to add. I'd also like to try and find out a few more basic facts about the school (eg, numbers and ages of pupils). Dahliarose 12:08, 24 June 2007 (UTC)
I've gone ahead with the Did you know? nomination. The other candidates look pretty poor to me. We'll have to see if we meet the relevant criteria for article expansion. Fingers crossed! You're doing a brilliant job with all these references and I like your new article on Allan Sealy. Dahliarose 20:22, 24 June 2007 (UTC)

Unfortunately we got knocked off the top spot when an admin revoked the nomination in the middle of the night. I've now explained (as I did in the original nomination) that the original article was all copyvio, and he's reinstated us, but the school is now near the bottom of the list and without a picture. At least we did make it to the front page. Dahliarose 08:22, 28 June 2007 (UTC)

I wasn't very happy with the reference I found and the article on Cliff doesn't quote any sources. There seems to be very little on the internet about his early life in India. WP:SCH[edit]

Nothing to apologise about mayte. I am currently working on assessing Western Australia related articles. Personally, i find many of the school articles have their ratings bumped up a little by editors. I personally think some of the GA's going around a tad dodgy. I am primarily involved with the Aquinas College, Perth article (Current GA - longterm GA - recently re-did alot of it) and other schools in the Public Schools Association. I am interested in knowing more about this "Current Collaboration" section on WP:SCH, for a start what is it? Is it like we all wok on these articles, or do we all add what we feel should be changed in the article or what? Im very interested in Peer Reviewing school articles, so if you ever need one done, drop us a message. Thanks alot. Twenty Years 09:21, 12 July 2007 (UTC)

Fyi, GESS has always being ranked by the Singapore' Ministry of Education as one of the top 50 schools for academic & ECA achievements to the present day. International Academy article[edit]

I do not know why the IA article is only rated as start-class. It contains a wide variety of detailed information, much more than most school articles, even if it is not all cited. I am a student at the International Academy and I added the non-cited "Classes Offered" section. I don't know how I would cite it because it is stuff I have heard from teachers at my school, not anything I have recieved off the Internet. I could possibly cite the student guidebook, but that is not available online. Colony Middle School[edit]

Hi there; you are, of course, quite right to mark this article for speedy deletion, and I have deleted it. But, two points, if I may. Firstly, erasing the text, or most of it, is wholly understandable, but it actually makes deletion a little harder as it is necessary to inspect the deleted text to verify deletion criteria. Secondly, when you apply a {{speedy}} tag, it is important to give an approved reason. You can find a complete list of speedy-deletion categories at WP:CSD. Happy wikying! --Anthony.bradbury"talk" 10:22, 18 August 2007 (UTC)

UK places[edit]

Solid work. Well done. I looked cos I saw two Derbyshire places but looking at your contribs then it seems obvious that you have some automated assistance (care to tell me?). I'd like to add a suggestion. You are adding a little bit to lots of articles. Adding the co-ordinates is excellent being as we have the NASA mapping. However thething that many find difficult to do is to add a reference. Is it possible that your tool could add a reference for where you got the co-ord data from? The main reason would be so that the next editor could see how you did it? Victuallers 15:40, 18 August 2007 (UTC)

  • Hi. I've created an Excel spreadsheets which generates the code for a stub UK village article when entering data from the List of United Kingdom locations article. I'm not sure how to add a reference, though. The web maps the co-ordinates link to are gennerally considered to provide enough verification that the co-ordinates are accurate, so references for them aren't usually added. Columbus Alternative High School[edit]

Hello, I see that you have rated Columbus Alternative High School as a "low-importance" school on the project. I am not familiar with the project, and so I don't know the conventions, but as an involved alumnus of the school I believe that it probably should hold a higher importance ranking. CAHS is an academically-focused school that holds a waitlist of hundreds. A spot at this school is very coveted, and the rigorous Humanities-based program is among the best in the country. It has a high ranking on the Newsweek list, and offers AP and IB programs to its student body. These facts in mind, I would like to know why the article's expansion is not of higher importance to the project. Lefteh 02:07, 26 August 2007 (UTC)

This and that[edit]

Many thanks for the offer for help with the template. Adam very kindly started off a template for me and it's now up and running. The Gloucestershire schools are all suitably dazzled! It was easier than I thought to do. I was wondering what we should do about La Martiniere Lucknow. I rather think we should move the girls to a separate article before trying for the good article nomination. What do you reckon? Dahliarose 16:39, 27 August 2007 (UTC)

TfD[edit]

I have nominated Template:La Martiniere Song for deletion, you can see the debate here. Thanks. Twenty Years 14:40, 29 August 2007 (UTC)

Apologies about the small delay in notification, i was having trouble wrapping my head around TfD. Twenty Years 14:43, 29 August 2007 (UTC)
School songs are not notable, it is generally accepted at wikiproject schools (some action at talk). It is also strongly opposed at schoolcruft. I may have jumped the gun at not discussing it first, but it is still not notable. Twenty Years 15:02, 29 August 2007 (UTC)

La Martiniere[edit]

I'll have another look at Martiniere later this week. I was going to have a go at redoing the later part of the history section. I might also go ahead with the split. I like the new pics. I've added my comments to the template discussion. I believe the nominator was the one who gave the Australian editors a lot of problems and was the reason for the creation of the initial schoolcruft article. I think he still has a lot to learn! Dahliarose 15:19, 29 August 2007 (UTC)

Note that warnings are reserved for breaches of Wikipedia policies and guidelines. I would have been doing so only if I *ignored* blatant and unsourced NPOV. Realistically, a lot of the content in the article needs to be reviewed, but I have neither the time nor knowledge to do it - several projects need my time and attention and this is somebody else's problem. However, I will probably challenge the ratings on the six articles on the basis of conflict of interest, which is reasonably easy to prove based on the information I have reviewed. Orderinchaos 11:16, 30 August 2007 (UTC)
I would also like to point out that the user above is an experienced administrator. Accusing an editor of making a POINT is a serious accusation. Possibly reverting or revising your comments may be a smart move. Twenty Years 11:27, 30 August 2007 (UTC)

Barnstar[edit]

The Original Barnstar
for your tireless work assessing a phenomenal number of school articles and for the constructive edits you have made over many months in an attempt to improve and properly source a large number of Wikipedia articles. Dahliarose 22:40, 30 August 2007 (UTC)

Have one from me! You more than deserve it. You might be amused and flattered to see that Auburn High School have now adopted your song box! Interestingly they've included a number of school lyrics in their article, all quite recent and all completely unreferenced, and yet this article has supposedly been through the Good Article process! That's Wikipedia for you! Dahliarose 22:40, 30 August 2007 (UTC)

Did you know?[edit]

Did you know that you are no. 2421 at Wikipedia:List of Wikipedians by number of edits with 7266 edits? Dahliarose 20:23, 31 August 2007 (UTC)

Further reading[edit]

The further reading lists are just a result of a trawl through COPAC, the big library catalogue, to see what's available. Have you seen my additions to the Lucknow page too? There are probably a few more which could be added. For FA we need to have the solid book references but I'm not quite ready to start ordering these books for the moment. I'd be fascinated to read them now after learning so much about the school and its history. I still have the Cliff Richard reference to investigate too. Have you seen the Mayo College talk page? The editor is recommending the La Martiniere Lucknow as an example of how to improve the Mayo piece! Dahliarose 22:33, 2 September 2007 (UTC)

Templates For Discussion[edit]

Hey Vict, this is going to be a big step for everything, but i want these three templates deleted. Basically, we have to come to an agreement here. I think they should all go, i want to have a dicussion about them to see why they should stay:

I just think that they are all cruft, especially the prayer (song is more notable than the prayer). The coat of arms is the only one that MIGHT be a bit different on - i think it should be deleted as cruft, its basically all speculation into meanings and all that. The founder thing is completely useless, this man did different things for each school, so why have the same template - it defies logic.

This looks a case of is you dont agree to speedy them yourself, then we might have to back to TfD and have another long drawn out process. As you created them all, im informing you first. I noticed that you werent happy with me TfD'ing the other template straight away, so i just thought id discuss them all. Cheers. Twenty Years 08:14, 3 September 2007 (UTC)
I have taken the templates to the schools talk page. Can you inform me as to who created them? because i wish to contact them and hopefully get them speedy deleted to save TfD time. please reply on my talk. Twenty Years 15:30, 3 September 2007 (UTC)

reply re templates[edit]

Thank you for your offer of discussion.

The idea is to discuss changes and then do them. I didn't create the content of these templates, I merely put them in templates as we (the editors involved) had agreed. You will need to discuss this proposed change with the authors or the present editors. My interests at present are

  1. in working out how to use templates to efficiently edit wikipedia
  2. contributing
  3. working with editors on Flickr, Wikimedia Commons, and Wikipedia. The vehicle I had chosen was a school in India... which is important... but not so important that I want to debate every line.
  4. having a peaceful life

I suggest you discuss this on the La Martinere pages and or the school pages and with anyone who wants to work with you. Victuallers 10:48, 3 September 2007 (UTC)

Castillero Middle School[edit]

Do you know how to create an infobox? You left me a note on the discussion page. Can you tell me what is the problem specifically? I know it's written in a slightly boosterish attitude. Do you have any ideas? Wikijjc 15:02, 3 September 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for your help, but I found a template for middle school infoboxes. I have to find a picture of the school that's not copyrighted. Wikijjc 15:52, 3 September 2007 (UTC)

Templates[edit]

I hope I'm not disturbing your peace! You're probably just as sick and tired of this whole ridiculous affair as I am. Just a thought but one of the problems with these templates is that people are viewing them all in isolation and not in the context of the articles they are included in. I'm not sure how these templates work but would it be worth including some sort of standardised usage guide on each template page to explain the situation? It's probably not worth taking any action until the outcome of the song template is known. Dahliarose 19:36, 3 September 2007 (UTC)

I can quite understand how you feel. It's been more a question of defending our reputations than anything else. All the allegations (so-called blatant copyright abuse, schoolcruft, conflict of interest) have been robustly defended but there has not been one word of apology. No one seems to have noticed all the copyvio material and schoolcruft which has been removed from the La Martiniere Lucknow article. Such confrontational debates are hardly in the best spirit of co-operation. I hope you're not going to stop working on Wikipedia after this experience. It would be a pity to lose such a good editor. Let me know if you ever want any help with the genealogy, especially if you have any interests in Devon or Berkshire. I shall certainly be in touch if I need any template help. I'm very sorry now that I ever suggested the Martiniere school song as a model layout. I never dreamt it would have such consequences. And I wish I hadn't changed the Lyon grading. It was completely irrelevant to the debate. I simply thought a genuine mistake had been made in the initial assessment. After all, it's only logical to assess a number of schools in the same chain with a similar importance rating. If it's any consolation I've now spotted a number of schools which have adopted the Martiniere format, and in each case I've noted that the changes were made within a few days of my posting. Imitation is the best form of flattery! Dahliarose 22:37, 3 September 2007 (UTC)
I am sorry if my robust comments on the TfD were interpreted as an attack on yourself or on Dahliarose. The main point which struck me was the perceived conflict of interest (which, even then, I did not see as being in bad faith - I saw it as an oversight). That was cleared up by members of the Schools project a day or two after I raised it, and the temperature of the TfD cooled subsequently. I admit to sometimes being a bit too forceful in my arguments - it is a case of first of all dealing with little bouts of crap where I normally edit and getting somewhat hardened to dealing with that (political topics tend to attract a lot of that), and secondly, the textual medium failing to communicate nuances. To an outsider, it looked like one thing, and to a great extent, it's turned out to be something very different indeed - and I apologise for any suggestion that you were fighting the issue through anything less than a desire to preserve the work which had taken place in the areas concerned (although I still hold the same basic opinion of the template). I wish you the best in the future and in editing, and sincerely hope that you do not leave over this matter or those related. Orderinchaos 10:44, 7 September 2007 (UTC)
No worries. :) See also my comments on Dahlia's page last night. Orderinchaos 02:58, 9 September 2007 (UTC)

G'Day[edit]

Hey Vict, ive heard that you're not happy regarding the TfD, how it went, and how you were treated in it. I must say i know the feeling, except i had alot of my articles deleted (see here, here and i cant find the best one). I felt like leaving wikipedia at the time, but i stuck with it and ended up producing a GA. Heres the bad news, i will be taking the other three templates to TfD. This may seem like a kick whilst youre down, but im just trying to get on with my schoolcruft cleanup. Whilst in the TfD, i may have appeared to take a cheapshot at you, it was merely a short-arm jab in reply, no harm was meant by it. I find the best way to deal with it is not to mention an editor in any comment what-so-ever, i will not be apologising, because IMO (and the admins ive asked) i did nothing wrong. Ive liked alot of your assessments, the only part of your work i disagree with is La Martinere. Hopefully, you will continue to work positively within the community. Best of luck. Twenty Years 14:56, 6 September 2007 (UTC)

I was wondering if you would request speedy deletion of this, because as the maker, you can speedy it to save another TfD. I will forget about the other two templates if that can be speedied. I would prefer all three, but i am willing to compromise. Twenty Years 15:05, 6 September 2007 (UTC)
The other templates are OK from a WP:NOT angle as far as I can see, would just need substing into the relevant articles and then could be speedy deleted as non-linked. If all are agreed it wouldn't need to go through TfD. Orderinchaos 03:29, 7 September 2007 (UTC)
It's a pity that with three admins commenting on the TfD debate no one seemed to be able to provide the critical link to WP:TMP as the rest of the discussion would have been completely unnecessary. An apology for some of the accusations (especially the 'blatant copyright of infringement') might have been in order. Now that we know the official policy I would suggest that we abandon the Claude Martin and coat of arms templates and add the copy individually to each article if appropriate. I suspect the copy might have had to be developed separately for each page anyway. I think you'd already realised that the template for the school prayer was a mistake as I believe it's only used by the Calcutta school. Its inclusion or otherwise is really a matter of debate on that page so I suggest we see what the editors on that page think. Dahliarose 09:21, 7 September 2007 (UTC)
On looking back at my participation in the TfD, i think i may have to apologise for the aggressive nature i took in trying to support my point of view in the discussion. None of my words were out of hand or in breach of WP:CIVIL, although they were aggreesive, and somewhat misguided. I apologise for the bad taste that the experience left, but hope that you can move on and help build the encyclopedia. Twenty Years 13:10, 7 September 2007 (UTC)

Alphabet books[edit]

Hi. I was just wikifying the article for the original creator (Bamberg2) who seems to have done a lot of research on the subject but didn't seem to have too much wiki experience or knowhow. Derbyshire WikiProject[edit]

Hello,

I've noticed that you would be interested in a Derbyshire WikiProject. I too would like to see one, and I have already initiated WikiProject UK Trams, so I would be glad to start/co-start/set up one for you/me/us! Please let me know! I will start it all off, but may need your help in tagging, telling people etc. Thanks, Bluegoblin7 12:20, 9 September 2007 (UTC)

Yes I think so. I will formally propose it, and then just say on a few WPs, and see what happens. In the mean time, I will also create a project page in my user space, before adding it to the main WP. We can then take it from there. Bluegoblin7 12:36, 9 September 2007 (UTC)
Well, I didnt check my facts before writing that. I'm now the 5th member of the one already proposed, so ive started a temporary page at [[User:Bluegoblin7/WP:Derbyshire, to get the ball rolling. I'm currently working on a logo, Userboxes, Talk Page Banners etc, and a few adminy pages, assessment, template, stub etc. so I can't really pad out the page, but please feel free to edit it up. When most things are ready, i'll launch it, and then announce it, add a portal, and we can start tagging and doing what WPs do!

Take a look at WP:UK Trams and let me know if you want to nick anyhting off there. It's all mine, so ill edit it for derbys, and stick it on! Thanks, Bluegoblin7 17:27, 9 September 2007 (UTC)

Falling off chairs[edit]

Thanks for the link. I think my arguments are finally getting through and there is no longer any urgency. It has however reminded me what a mess the page is in. I shall see if I can track down a few more refs. I'm going to order the Chandan Mitra book from the library too. It's a good job we have a sense of humour! Dahliarose 21:02, 10 September 2007 (UTC)

Yes still amused!! Thanks for the link. I've updated Rowe's page - there was just sufficient visible to use it as a source. Wikisource is more flexible than I appreciated and it has worked better than I thought. Dare I suggest that we could perhaps do with a model school song template for use on Wikisource. I used a quotation template but it's not ideal. Can you do better? Dahliarose 14:08, 11 September 2007 (UTC)

Middletown HS[edit]

Sure, go ahead. It would be the first time someone other than me proposed an article I'd created for DYK.

I'd love to have had more history. But a) what's happened at that school in this decade alone is more than what happens in 100 years at other schools, and b) it's really difficult to get that older stuff online. I'm sure the Thrall Library has more in its clip files, or somone does, but it's not online.

What hook were you thinking of? The walkouts? Daniel Case 21:33, 12 September 2007 (UTC)

The school didn't sack the superintendent, the district did (and they were sort of forced to — that happens when they plead guilty to sexually abusing a student). But the rest is accurate, and sourced.

It's going to be fun if that gets on the Main Page during a weekday, now that school is in session ... I can't imagine the kind of vandalism it would inspire (For another local high school near where I live that has a colorful incident in its recent past, which has inspired some equally colorful vandalism from bored students in its computer clusters, see Monroe-Woodbury High School. Bothriechis bicolor[edit]

Hi Victuallers! Sorry, but I undid your edit to Bothriechis bicolor, simply because it was bad English. You can say "snake species" or "species of snake", but saying "pitviper species of snake" would be just as silly as saying "snake species of snake." I'm sorry you didn't immediately recognize the term "pitviper", but I suppose using that as opposed to "snake" is just a matter of choice. Actually, my default is to use snake, but in the cases of certain snake (sub)families, I opt for more descriptive terms that I assume most people are likely to be familiar with, such as "viper", "pitviper", "boa", "python" and "blind snake." If not, I always make sure it's wikilinked so you can find out what it is. Of course, the plan is always to eventually find an image for the taxobox, which always speaks a thousand words, but as things stand we still have many more articles than images for the correct species and subspecies. (PS -- You can answer here as I've temporarily added your talk page to my watchlist). --Jwinius 00:44, 14 September 2007 (UTC)

I understand your edit. Thanks for the explanation. My reasoning was that I consider myself good at English and well informed, but I could only work out it was a reptle. If it had been a type of python or any of the others you listed above then I would have been OK. Possible solutions are 1. Ignore this ... it could be "just me" 2. A picture - I agree this would be ideal ... but I also know the difficulty.
The solution I might offer is to have a generic picture of a snake like the one used here for a man ... its only an idea and I'm happy to leave it to those who are following us. Your article looked fine, its initial accessibility is a minor (and minority) issue. Thx again.Victuallers 07:48, 14 September 2007 (UTC)
Not a bad idea, actually. I'll think about it. Cheers! --Jwinius 08:50, 14 September 2007 (UTC)

Well done again Vic, Blnguyen (bananabucket) 06:03, 19 September 2007 (UTC)

Sorry for the delay in getting back to you on this. I don't understand why the link is blacklisted as I agree it appears, at least at first sight, to be an academic site. Usually, in my experience, when sites like this are blacklisted it is because an expert in the area has considered them to be pushing a POV, however, I'm by no means sufficiently experienced in this area to understand why that might apply here. It could also simply be an error; I don't know the procedure for contesting it, I'm afraid.
In any case, I'm glad it didn't stop a great article from being featured on DYK! Cheers, Espresso Addict 22:28, 19 September 2007 (UTC)
